LeBron James, Lance Stephenson and David West Fined for Game 4 Flops (VIDEO)

Oh, the irony of it all. After declaring that there was nothing wrong at all with flopping, LeBron James flopped in Game 4, along with David West and Lance Stephenson, and now they’re each $5,000 poorer for it. Per the AP: “Miami’s LeBron James and Indiana’s David West and Lance Stephenson were all fined $5,000 by the NBA on Thursday for violating the league’s anti-flopping policy. James and West were penalized for the same play during a messy Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. James spun and fell and West tumbled toward the baseline during what looked like a poorly choreographed dance routine as the NBA’s MVP defended the Indiana forward. Stephenson was fined for exaggerating the contact after a slight elbow from Ray Allen following his basket, staggering back toward the sideline after making a short jumper. The NBA began fining players this year for the act of trying to fool referees into calling fouls when there had been limited contact.”

Good try West and LeBron, but Fisher and KMartin got the synchronized flop game on lock!

*JeffBinghamVoice* COME ON!!! What is wrong with these Dudes? Is everybody watching Italian Soccer League during the off-season?

  • C-Man

What is a $5,000 fine going to do? Really? It’s this supposed to discourage players from flopping? What a joke?

  • bike

It what would normally be viewed as a very competitive, hard fought series, the story is…officiating and flopping. Very sad indeed. Downright shameful.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that is the amount for a first offense, it keeps going up every offense after this for these three. And Lance Stephenson only made 900K this year, not that 5k is a huge chunk, but it’s not irrelevant.

  • LakeShow

What do ya’ll think about Allen and Stephenson. When I was watching the game I assumed it was something along the lines of Lance saying “gotcha” and then allen saying “respect your elders young man.”
Anyone heard different about that exchange.

  • Seth

I’ve thought that if the NBA ups the fine to $50K or $100K then players would stop flopping. Money talks.

  • MUBWAR

yes but as soon as the 3 years rookie deal expires, he’s gonna cash in big time. at least in 5 to 8 mil a season

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    ok?

  • spit hot fiyah

they should do what some countries do with traffic violations, make the fine based on how much you earn

I’ll put my cards on the table: I root for the underdog, and seeing the Pacers win would be cool. I also think Lebron’s an all time great, and a good guy – a philanthropist and good teammate, and I think he can largely be forgiven for his ego, having been anointed as a god at the age of 15 (14? 13??) I’ve also screwed up in my day, so I won’t judge. But this flop…is one of the most RIDICULOUS flops I’ve ever seen. I love watching his hard fronts on West, but man…where did that come from?? Good lord. A pathetic attempt. I just can’t see Magic, Bird, Jordan, Robertson, or most other legends do that. And Lebron’s a legend. He really should NEVER do that.

Anywho, I still enjoy Lebron’s game and talents, and his off court work – well done. But PLEASE no more of that. I think Shane “thoughtful quote/cheap shot artist” Battier must be in his ear.

  • Dfrance

I was thinking the same thing. I can’t even imagine Ray cursing. He was probably like “No need to be overzealous Lance, act like you’ve been here before “

  • bigA

Good that they fine them. I don’t like the drama that parts of soccer has become. Although sometimes it’s pretty hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHsg6Bb02L4

  • spit hot fiyah

much harder to synchronize when u play on opposite teams though

  • Faraan Akhtar

    “but i don’t flop”

    -Lebron James-

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Nick Tha Quick

Somehow Shane Battier eluded all flop authority detection devices. I swear the dude has some anti-radar flop stealthware that makes him invisible when he flops and jams the refs’ frontal lobe.

  • spit hot fiyah

    lmao

  • Dfrance

Couldn’t just like the comment and move on huh?

  • spit hot fiyah

just have to give credit were credit is due, the rarely seen opposite teams synchronized flop probably hasn’t been seen since ginobili ran into divac

  • Max

    lol what the hell.

  • danpowers

lmao “por favor carajo” love it

  • danpowers

a % on the income of a player would be fair. 1% first flop, 10% second, waived by the third time lol

  • LakeShow

    dear god…

  • Max

    Lebron has done that alot.

Just start suspending em for 1 game allready, I’m pretty sure it will stop then.

  • danpowers

i shouldnt have clicked on that link -.-

  • danpowers

    agreed

  • Max

Haha, and there’s still people saying this stuff is ok..

  • Max

If only Danny Granger would be there.

  • Max

    Suspensions.

  • Max

I only gave it a 6 because the put up different legs..

  • Dfrance

Ginobili and Harden may have combined for a few this season. *Googles*

  • Dfrance

They meant to do that, its a rare mirror image technique. Usually only seen overseas.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

haha that is a bit extreme. could you imagine if something you did at work didn’t turn out how you acted like it was going to, and you lost 1% of your yearly salary?
    .
    ok that sounds fair.

  • danpowers

if i am backstabbing someone that would be fair imo

  • i AN LEGEND

can anyone lipread what Ray was saying to LANCE BORN READY STEPHENSON?

  • spit hot fiyah

“Couldn’t just like the comment and move on huh?” ;)

  • Lloyd

Honestly, I give David West the benefit of the doubt on this one. If Lebron James flops off me, I’m not leaving it to the refs to decide that. The majority of the time, Lebron is going to get that call. The best chance you have of avoiding that call is to go flop for flop.

Lance Stephenson is atrocious though. If he was booked for every time he flopped this series, he’d be out at least 25k. And that’s just the ones I’ve seen.

  • Justin G

    Embarrassing

  • 1982

I think they really should look into in-game calls where it would just be offensive and defensive fouls. That’ll be the only thing they can replay outside of two minutes – and that’ll embarrass them every time it stops the game. The ones you don’t catch are just that – but the 1 or two you call every game would change things.

  • Max

    I didn’t know that!
8 because their heads are still going the same way (minor mistake).
Ahh, the art of flopping is something beautiful.

  • Dacre

It’s like LeBron and West demonstrated a rendition of the…”banana peels all over the floor” technique. Popular with the pre-teen age group and found on many slap-stick comedy routines.

  • LP @ThisisEther

It’s more about your reputation taking a hit….. Once you get flagged as a flopper (officially), officials will be more likely to ignore your flopping and also you will be recognized as a blatant flopper around the league. Scarlett letter, somewhat.

  • anonymous

10% of annual income? who you think you are? the pope?!

  • danpowers

lol. id just love to see a legue making it impossible to flop. or at least the risk so high, that flopping wouldnt be worth the risk anymore.

i know that 10%’d be a little harsh. neither would i want that a player gets waived for his 3rd flop, thats what i wrote “lol”.
i just think that flopping cant get punished hard enough (by reasonable means tho). the current penalty system isnt hard enough imo

  • danpowers

just to make us angry i guess

  • danpowers

    both, instantly. no warnings

  • Dfrance

Well done my friend, well done. Lol

  • Caboose

    It’s a “veteran play.”

  • Caboose

Watch the ref in the video with Stephenson. Once Lance flops, the ref gives him a “you serious?” look.

  • danpowers

lol true. i hope they’ll allow the refs to hand out technical fouls on flops when they see obvious ones like that.
