Ron Artest’s Adventures in Africa

Plus: Why is China’s Sports Federation mad at Yao?

by Marcel Mutoni

-I hope someone is documenting every second of Ron-Ron’s trip to Africa and releasing the DVD just in time for Christmas.

“We went out to the jungle and stayed with real tribes for a few days, slept in tents and were protected only by the warriors. It’s so amazing. They actually drink blood mixed with milk. They eat goat, drink blood, some water. Wait until you see it.”

(Artest) filmed a cheetah killing a zebra, captured a monkey lingering near his tent, filmed former Kings swingman Mo Evans dancing with the tribesmen. On another occasion, Artest peeked outside his tent and found a hippo lurking.

“Scariest moment of my life,” he said. “This was the jungle! I zipped my tent up so fast … “

(Not so hardbody now, are we?)

-Sharp shooting Matt Carroll has re-signed with Charlotte.

-Portland has re-signed Travis Outlaw.

-Jamaal Magloire thinks he’s a tough guy: He calls the League “soft”. Yes, because when you think of toughness, Magloire immediately comes to mind.

-As Russ mentioned in the comments here, the All-China Sports Federation is mad at Yao Ming for reporting late to the national team. (Also, thanks to reader Rafael Villegas for writing in with the tip)

“No matter how lofty public welfare activities are, they can’t be allowed to take first place in a player’s life,” the China Sports Daily, a federation-owned newspaper, said in an article appearing Tuesday.

“No matter how sweet personal life is, it can’t be compared to the exultation of capturing glory for one’s nation,” the article said.

(Sounds like a fun country to live in.)

-And finally for today: I wish I had the toughness of a rugby player.

Just to prove Ron-Ron is not the brighest bulb, he ran back into his tent thinking that it would protect him from a 2000 lb hippo. Maybe the monkey he caught was Ping Ping.

i dont understand China’s problem or how they can say Yao took too much time off to recover from the NBA, Yao took like a week off after losing to Utah and started working out with Dream and Dawson regularly after that, if anything, that helps Yao develop which therefore helps China get better…he’s probably only had a month off since…china’s trippin..

that excerpt about yao struck a cord with me. thankfully i’m not living in china, but as ridiculous as that sound, the quote is exactly how the chinese government brainwash all their citizens to think. there’s a better sense of freedom (and money talks BIG, just like everywhere else in the world), but everything’s still tightly controlled by the government.
the more i think about it, the more i think the Yi situation is completely out of his hand. too bad he’s gonna be the one suffering at the end. well i guess that won’t be different than what his fellow countrymen are feeling. you don’t belong to you, you belong to the state.

The Chinese Basketball Association needs to come to the 21st century where everybody else is. Not that this will happen anytime soon, but just a suggestion for them.

all rite, here it go again, the artile about Yao,
was originally written by an internal writer of the newspaper where the news comes from , and itz put in the section of “reader n newspaper interaction”, yes, this newspaper is generally the main voice for the China Sports Federation, but this article does not solely represent the offical comment from the Federation

You would think that with the amount of economical gain Yao must’ve brought to his country that a couple of weeks off might be forgiven.Geez.

I’d love to see an NFL player try his trade in the NRL… No helmets, no pads… just a mouth guard…

Just to see what happens… (thought I’d throw that out there)

Yea rite, like the China Sports Federation cared about Yao. They only cared because Yao was their money-maker but now Yao had been influenced by American culture, he started to disregard the communism.
That’s why China expecting EaZy Yi to be their next money-maker.
    Shake your money maker…

Lets try to keep the China hate down, I dont want this site blocked by the Great FireWall of China any time soon.

Speaking of China and how fuked up it is, I saw a fist fight between a Chinese taxi driver and a woman today. After trading couple of punches, for some reason the woman was trying to jack the taxi or something like in GTA, but the taxi driver lifted her and threw her on the floor. Everybody around just watched didnt do anything (I was in a vehicle too so couldnt stop it either). Also if you need any more sign that China is messed up, there was a carrot in my Big Mac the other day.

Actually hippo’s leave you alone when you’re inside your tent. They think it’s a rock or something. That’s the advice I got when I was in Kenya.

    rugby is not a joke

  • FatKatt

No it’s not… but I have to agree with ‘BallingNZ’…league players are way tougher than rugby. Just go search for and watch a game of State of Origin… especially late 80s early 90s… Crazy Aussies

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Okee lets keep the hate off China. Sure, the government has a lot of wack-out leaders and the national team isn’t too good at all, but the people and country are still awesome. And bootlace, blame urself for going to China and eating Mickey D’s…. you should be trying something new, not eating the same old pure grease you eat in North American fast food restaurants.
