Yi Jianlin traded for Richard Jefferson

By Sam Rubenstein

Um… okay. So, SI.com has the scoop. The Nets are beginning their cap room run at LeBron. Bobby Simmons is also involved. The Bucks get more athletic, an experienced winner, and thus ends the Yi experiment. Thoughts?

    Whaaaat?!?

  • H to the izzo Posted: Jun.26 at 4:10 pm
Isn’t Ji’s whole attraction his athleticism?

  • TADOne Posted: Jun.26 at 4:10 pm
Hey Sam, I also heard the Clips moved up to #4 in the draft. Anything on that?

  • MK Petrik Posted: Jun.26 at 4:13 pm
So what happens to Vince? Obviously the Nets are leaning towards the youth movement. Although Vince is a shell of his former self, I would try to get rid of him ASAP.

  • Alex Posted: Jun.26 at 4:14 pm
Clearing cap space for LeBron. I like it! They wouldn’t win 35 games with Jefferson this year so why not? Those heartless losers!

  • H to the izzo Posted: Jun.26 at 4:15 pm
The Bucks better hope they get Alexander at 8(which isn’t a guarantee).

  • SteveSmith#8fan Posted: Jun.26 at 4:17 pm
As much as I hate his effort at times the Nets need to keep Carter because he is the only proven scorer on the team right now. The Nets just have to hope that Simmons can return to his 15 pts per game average when he was with the Clips.

  • cyanide Posted: Jun.26 at 4:20 pm
the nets could have waited a bit and try to shop for a better player for RJ. its not that i dont like simmons and Yi.. but there are a lot of possible trade options for the nets beside this one.. VC aint got no one now in jersey.. well maybe except for harris! haha

  • Alain Elie Posted: Jun.26 at 4:21 pm
Nets and Knicks and to whole league should stop trying to get Lebron in 2010….he love’s Cleveland and is going to end his end career at Cleveland

  • andacagar Posted: Jun.26 at 4:22 pm
I like this trade. RJ is a standup dude, he plays hard and is the ultimate teammate but Jersey needs to focus the team around Dev Harris and to clear up that caproom for Bron. I can see NJ going young for the next couple years until Bron becomes available and by then team will be filled with experienced young vets.

  • B. Long Posted: Jun.26 at 4:25 pm
WTF? This is gonna be a crazy ass draft day. I have a feeling we’re just getting started.

  • The Promise Posted: Jun.26 at 4:25 pm
    HOLY $HIT!

  • Jake Fischer Posted: Jun.26 at 4:27 pm
Depending on what the bucks do with during the draft, they made an amazing deal to surround michael redd with some talent. Richard Jefferson and Redd could combine for a great 2 and 3 combination. And they could find a nice pg or a decent big man in the draft as well. Nice job Bucks!

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Jun.26 at 4:34 pm
i bet Yi and the NBA is happy about this. the Nets is just across the river from NYC. chinese food here Yi comes!

  • blackjack Posted: Jun.26 at 4:37 pm
I really like this move for Milwaukee, but they still won’t be that good

  • SMK Posted: Jun.26 at 4:37 pm
as usual, Kelly Dwyer has it pegged for the Nets – in 2010, when a certain FOH (Friend of Hova) is a free agent, the Nets will have just Vince, Yi and Devin Harris under contract for a combined $30M, which gives them a likely $30M to play with to sign you-know-who.

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.26 at 4:42 pm
    co-sign The Promise

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.26 at 4:42 pm
You know, if the Bucks get Kevin Love, they may not be a bad team anymore

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Jun.26 at 4:43 pm
    LBJ – Brooklyn NETS!

  • blackjack Posted: Jun.26 at 4:43 pm
    Voldemort?

  • AD25 Posted: Jun.26 at 4:45 pm
    GOOOO BUCKS!

  • Holy Baller Posted: Jun.26 at 4:46 pm
WOW…..good move for both teams. The Nets will suck next year anyway, even if they had RJ. So good move.

  • The Promise Posted: Jun.26 at 4:49 pm
yeah… this is a good move for milwaukee to me more than it is jersey. we know what jefferson can do. we dont know if Yi is gonna pan out yet, but its a very interesting trade that i will be watchin closely.

  • WhaHuh Posted: Jun.26 at 4:53 pm
WHHHHAAAAATTTTTTT???? I have tickets to see Nets vs Heat in October, who is going to turn up?

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: Jun.26 at 4:56 pm
This is a GREAT move for the Nets. RJ is one of the most overrated players in the league. I’ll never understand how he managed to get so many minutes in the 2004 Olympics. Oh wait, Larry Brown was the coach…

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.26 at 5:06 pm
You couldn’t possibly have gotten tickets for a worse game, WhaHuh

  • RV Posted: Jun.26 at 5:12 pm
so where does that leave Joe alexander?

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Jun.26 at 5:13 pm
This week is a basketball mindf*ck.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jun.26 at 5:19 pm
    whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

  • BETCATS Posted: Jun.26 at 5:23 pm
    as dracula would say: vaaat?

  • BETCATS Posted: Jun.26 at 5:32 pm
    tirty

  • Pat Lok Posted: Jun.26 at 5:33 pm
I like this move especially because of Simmons – who is a decent starter when healthy. Yi’s development is the icing…

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Jun.26 at 5:36 pm
nets should trade Vince for a copy of the Wizard Of OZ

  • mike Posted: Jun.26 at 5:43 pm
way too bad deal for the nets but on the other hand way too good deal for the bucks. They have Mo Williams,Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut i think Richard is the missing piece for the puzzle in Milwaukee.

  • Keith Posted: Jun.26 at 5:46 pm
Nice move for the Bucks. They get a better inside player, they shift Simmons’ crippling contract and they get a scorer to relieve the pressure on Redd a bit.

  • Keith Posted: Jun.26 at 5:47 pm
Whahuh – I’m purchasing some tomorrow. How much dyou pay?

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Jun.26 at 5:49 pm
keith, the question is how much do they pay you!

  • ciolkstar Posted: Jun.26 at 5:51 pm
Whoa. Didn’t see this coming…Yi sorta sucks. I hear he’s BIG in China though (wink wink LeBron)

  • Keith Posted: Jun.26 at 5:54 pm
Ha! They haven’t paid me anything yet but I’m gonna ask SLAM for some ca$h if I cover the game(Yeah, like they’d ever want to read THAT pile of *beep*….)

  • Money Bill Williams Posted: Jun.26 at 5:55 pm
this has all been a well concieved plan by the chinese gov’t. coz i think there are a few more chinese in the tristate area than in buck county

  • Sesa Posted: Jun.26 at 6:00 pm
The effect of a certain choke job, I presume

  • Gumdrop Posted: Jun.26 at 6:04 pm
Will Yi be able to find a hot girlfriend in New Jersey. The people want to know.

  • Gumdrop Posted: Jun.26 at 6:05 pm
The first sentence should have had a question mark after it.

  • WhaHuh Posted: Jun.26 at 6:18 pm
Keith check the o2 website, Im going with the family and we’re in the Upper tier. Unless the teams draft well i wont miss much anyway.

  • Keith Posted: Jun.26 at 6:24 pm
Ha…I’m already waiting til I get paid to get the tickets. I’ll get the £70 ones and whilst sitting there, berate the fact that I paid so much to see Vince Carter take a hundred jumpshots and to see Chris Quinn play 37 minutes. Urgh…I already hate myself for what I’m about to do.

  • rav Posted: Jun.26 at 6:27 pm
so redd isn’t getting traded then?

  • RolleZed Posted: Jun.26 at 6:30 pm
Nets will be fine in a couple of years. They just need to develope. Think about it…Josh Boone…Devin Harris…shawn williams…11th pick (possibly gallinari)…and now Yi.Man, theres potential out there. I’m sure that atleast two of those guys will be NBA All Stars some day. Maybe pretty soon.

  • Richard Jefferson - Verified Athlete Posted: Jun.26 at 6:31 pm
hold up hold up hold up, im going where?!

  • RolleZed Posted: Jun.26 at 6:32 pm
    And there’s marcus williams too.

  • Keith Posted: Jun.26 at 6:32 pm
Bucks are up in the air over Redd from what I’ve heard. They’ve assured him that they like what he’s done and what he means to the franchise but in reality, dude earns too much money for what he does. He’s paid like a franchise player when he’s only second tier.

  • rav Posted: Jun.26 at 6:35 pm
as for the o2 game, i ordered upper level tickets – no idea why they jacked up the price as last season was around 2/3 full

  • rav Posted: Jun.26 at 6:38 pm
agreed with redd comments keith, but it wouldn’t make sense to trade redd after getting jefferson though, unless they can get a decent 2nd/3rd tier player for him e.g. tayshaun prince, gerald wallace etc

  • Keith Posted: Jun.26 at 6:40 pm
Yeah, I think that now they’ve got Jefferson on the books, they’ll keep Redd. In fact, that’s a pretty decent trio – Redd, Bogut and Jefferson. Villanueva could still do with either toughening up or being shipped out.

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Jun.26 at 6:53 pm
if scott skiles can get the Bucks to see the celtics as their role model (great individual offensive players who bought in the team defense system), then this team will be in the postseason. there’s way too much talent on the bucks to not make the playoffs.

  • Jess Posted: Jun.26 at 6:59 pm
hahaha…wow…wow. Im not a fan of either team so I dont really care. I thought they could get more to RJ though.

  • zg Posted: Jun.26 at 7:21 pm
if the nets dont get bron, they gonna be the next 06-07 celtics and they ain’t gonna comeback anytime soon. also, dont sleep on the hawks. they got good young playaz and they are on good draft pick( and fours years away) from making a run at the chip. and this is comin from a new yorka.

  • what Posted: Jun.26 at 7:33 pm
Not a big RJ fan… I actually think it’s a good trade for the Nets if Bobby Simmons can stay healthy. A healthy Bobby Simmons is not a whole lot worse than RJ.

  • andrew Posted: Jun.27 at 12:02 am
im looking forward to 2010 lebron is a lock to going there only possible thing stopping it is the stadium not being ready i can also see the throwback top will be on my christmas list (the new yourk nets one with the stars on the side) sorry to all the cleveland fans who think hez gonna stay but hey.. it was fun while it lasted right and least he turned out better den melo

  • Buck Hunter Posted: Jun.27 at 12:34 am
You’ve gotta think that they’re the most attractive freeagent destination now! So bankable. These guys called it. Pretty funny stuff. http://thesportcount.wordpress.com/2008/06/27/netsbucks-trade-makes-lebron-a-lock-to-the-nets/

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.27 at 2:54 am
GREAT trade for the Bucks, with a 5 of Williams, Redd, RJ, Villanueva and Bogut thats a real high scroing team with a lot of statistical output. C.V and Bogut dont need the ball but bucks are going to be way over the cap once Bogut resigns this year. Sessions as a back up for the point, Mason as the swingman and C.V can slide to the 3 sometimes and Bogut plays 4 (yes he can) while Gadzuric(????) backs up at 5. Nets…. not so much.

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.27 at 2:56 am
Villanueva was always a better player than Yi and fu*k Yi, dude was overrated and injured half the year. V had a 48 point game too. Underrated.

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.27 at 2:56 am
It would be amazing if I could write coherent sentences.

  • Joel O's Posted: Jun.27 at 10:51 am
@Hursty: Agreed. Charlie V was already an established player, and he put up some very good numbers when given the chance. It’s honestly stupid that the Bucks drafted a guy who plays the same position as Charlie V, and is “guaranteed” minutes. Bad for the team. But this trade’s good for both teams I think.

  • Joel O's Posted: Jun.27 at 11:33 am
Haha. The Bucks just made another horizontal move by adding Joe Alexander though. Whats with them and wispy combo forwards?

  • Blinguo Posted: Jun.27 at 12:48 pm
    New Jers-(Easy)Yi.

  • Ethan Posted: Jun.27 at 9:58 pm
VC is now a 1/2 man show GO LAKERS

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jun.27 at 10:33 pm
After all the Bucks went through to get Yi, I’m amazed they gave up on him after one season. I hope he blows up in Jersey. Work on that call, Suss!

  • LAN Posted: Jun.28 at 4:17 am
omg nets r idiots the only good thing bout this trade is they get a larger fan base due 2 china. nets r so lucky they got brook lopez, milwaukee did sik tho

  • AB_40 Posted: Jun.28 at 9:15 pm
Yi plus james or wade in 10-11 will create some of the highest world wide viewing rates. especialy if that team would somehow make the finals.

  • tagz Posted: Jun.28 at 11:53 pm
NETS TRADE RJ???? OMG…WORDS FOR ROD THORN, YOU TRADED THE WRONG GUY!!!!!!! YOUR BEST DEFENDER SENT TO THE BUCKS?? GAWD, YI + BOBBY SIMMONS = VINCE CARTER NOT RJ…

  • Eazy-Yi Posted: Jun.29 at 1:53 pm
I think this is more a pull for LeBron, Yi will give an already established global megastar an even bigger fan base. The Yao Ming affect if you will…

  • Eazy-Yi Posted: Jun.29 at 1:55 pm
Dwyane Wade will never, ever go to the Nets

  • Eazy-Yi Posted: Jun.29 at 2:01 pm
when they move to Brooklyn this will be a totally different team. For the next two years they are just going to let Devin Harris improve his jumpshot and overall scoring so he can be the primary second option for LeBron, Yi will be the secondary faciliitator that can create his own shots, which he can. They just need a solid defensive anchor- Sean Williams gets abit more bulky he’ll have a starting role. CDR can be their primary bench scorer, oh and that Lopez guy in the middle will just be a lesser Zydrunas Ilgauskas…He’ll have to carry a team wherever he goes…… but you better believe Jay Z won’t mind splasing some big dollars if it means a couple championship rings. What else has Jay Z yet to accomplish?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jun.29 at 9:55 pm
What? If the Nets get Lebron, it will have been by getting rid of Carter in the process right? Anyone?
