Baron Will Just Have to Make Due Without Elton
So, it turns out that Elton Brand’s surprise move to the East Coast did not have any effect on Baron Davis’s commitment to the Clippers. B-Diddy didn’t pull a Boozer on Donald Sterling’s franchise, and is resigned to simply trying to make the best of the situation in Clipper-ville.
The Clippers introduced their new point guard at a press meet&greet yesterday, and a dapper-looking David said he isn’t mad at Elton for his decision, and did the best he could in trying to spin the current Clipper situation into a positive. From The Press-Enterprise:
“No, once I commit to something, I do it,” Davis said. “I was committed to the Clippers, and they were committed to me. I was honored to come here. I did think that Elton was going to come. I talked to him and told him, ‘Hey, this is the best place for you. We can do great things.’ But, obviously he chose otherwise, and you can’t be mad at him for that.”
“There’s no more Elton Brand in LA. It’s my turn and a chance for the young guys to step up. We get a couple more free agents, and we’ll be ready to go.”
That’s called saying all of the rights things, the type of things one should say after signing a huge contract.
Here’s to hoping that a chance to live back home (and the money) will make Davis happy, because the basketball almost certainly will not.
