Marcus Camby on the ‘Sheer Joy’ of Joining the Clippers

by Marcel Mutoni

Marcus Camby has been through a lot of things in his life. He was famously dunked on by a very young Allen Iverson; he once drew the ire of just about every sane person the planet when he said the League should provide its players with a stipend to buy clothes so as to follow the newly-instituded dress code; and several members of his family were kidnapped in the spring of 2001.

For a guy who’s been through a lot of tough things, still, nothing compares to the hardship that is playing for Donald Sterling’s L.A. Clippers. From the Boston Globe:

“I’m the only one they traded, so they are putting the onus and the blame on me,” Camby said. “I was supposedly the one with all the injuries. But I held the fort down. I played hurt, played in games I shouldn’t have played in. But I held my own and this is how I’m repaid?”

[...]

“With everything I’ve been dealing with off the court, this is the lowest point of my life,” said Camby.

Prepare to be that rarest of players who gets booed by his new fanbase on opening night, Marcus. Kudos to you.

Cheer up Marcus, at least you get to share the frontcourt with Elton… oops

as a Nuggets fan, i hate the trade, but, Camby didn’t play hurt. He took every opportunity to not play when he was hurt, He’s still one of my favorite players but come’on..

The Nuggests are going to implode. A bunch of selfish guys. Camby just got safed from enduring a miserable season that would have layed ahead of him in denver

  • Rasheedionics

Just because he’s rich it doesn’t mean it’s so easy to uproot and move to entirely new environment. I feel his pain.

heh, some of these ball players do enjoy a good moan.

  • Captain America

Actually, the Clips will have a solid front line with Camby and Kaman. Camby is not the only one shocked by this trade, since he has been the last and only defense for the past few years. Coach Karl couldn’t believe it either.

  • Captain America

Eboy, the Heat could’ve used Camby in the middle…no?

Rasheedionics, I’d get up and leave Denver for LA to keep on earning twelve million a year in a heartbeat. If he wants to live in Denver, he can quit. Like a normal person.

Stay tuned for Marcus Camby dropping a career high in points vs. Denver when they meet during the regular season.

Yeah, he would have fit well, Captain. But it would be short term due to his age. they rid themselves of Shaq and still have Zo lurking so the age of their center spot is still deep.

The Heat don’t need Camby, they have Mark Blount!

Man, I wish Donald Sterling would sell his team to an owner that actually cares about NBA basketball…

camby and kaman will be a force

This is the opposite of the sheer joy Lang felt knowing Mutoni was back on the grind.

    i feel bad 4 him

I don’t think he’s as pissed that he’s going to the Clips as he is upset that Enver traded him at all. Ok, Ok, it probably is because of the Clips.

  • B. Long

But a starting 5 of B-Diddy, Commissioner Gordon,Al Thorton, Marcus, and Kaveman is pretty solid. Even in the west.

Is that a misprint?? Did he really say.. ā€œIā€™m the only one they traded, so they are putting the ANUS and the blame on me,ā€ ???

  • http://fjkdlzf.com Jukai

It’s not a typo, tribledouble. George Karl literally dropped his pants and charged backwards at Camby. Really awkward moment.

  • http://fjkdlzf.com Jukai

    Also, the word is “onus”

    @ Jukai: haha
@ Jukai and tripledouble: “onus” is another word for “blame”

it’s probably a good idea to read the whole aritcle instead of one paragraph, just an idea.

“It’s nothing to do with the Clippers. [Coach] Mike [Dunleavy] was great on the phone. It’s not where I’m going. It’s where I’m coming from.”

Hr’s bummed that he got traded by the Nuggets, that’s it.

    poor Camby. :/

  • http://www.youtube.com/tripledouble TripleDouble

ummm, I know what Onus means… was just cracking a Dad’s joke… I’m a new Dad, I have an 8 day old son… I now have a pass to make bad jokes… get used to it people.

Although, I think George Karl may have actually done that Jukai,… he is bald and has shifty eyes… I could see him in the middle of a one-on-one coaching session with one of his players going in for the pash only to be denied… …”Look Nene, if you tell no one about this I’ll get you a 60million dollar deal ok?… OK!!!”
