Nathan Jawai’s NBA Career Could Be Over Before it Even Begins

According to a published report, the man known to some as the “Aussie Shaq” may never see the court again due to an enlarged heart.

Was this guy in the olympics?

  • k.o.

while disappointing, the good thing is the physical exam Jawai failed may have saved his life in the long run

    that sucks

  • Tuomas

My thoughts are with Jawai, and with Hursty. Not a good day to be a Rockets fan from Australia.

And to think… the Raps could’ve had Bill Walker instead

doesn’t eddy curry have the same issue? where is he now?

  • Tuomas

Nope, Curry just had an irregular heartbeat. As far as I can tell, him not playing currently has zero to do with that and all to do with him being a millionaire with a non-existent work ethic (to put it kindly). All the more depressing if a player who actually wants it doesn’t even get to the league.

  • Tuomas

Oh, and I’m no doctor, but I think at least the late paint monster Conrad McRae died because of an enlarged heart. So Jawai’s condition is no laughing matter.

  • niQ

how was he able to play before this?

@albie: Curry has a figurative heart problem, not a literal one

  • Mitch

that sucks. Hope they can find a way 4 him to play

I’m sorry for Nathan, my benevolence goes out to him.

  • Sean Gaudet

He’ll still get paid his contract from the Raptors though. right?

  • GGG

    That sucks. Poor bugger.

    Condolences Aussies.

Thanks Tuomas. Dude was flat out dominant in Australia last year.

Thats sad news, he really was a beast in the Oz NBL last season… was interested to see how he went in the NBA. NOT diggin’ the ‘Aussie Shaq’ thing though. Still waiting on the Greek baby Shaq. Lets not speak too soon, Jawai could yet be back.

hmm… shame that.. All that Good American food, will he come back and play here in Oz then…? (he seemed to play very well here last year).

ummm dacre, if he can’t play NBA i doubt he will come back to play over here. Last time i checked his condition didn’t change depending on what continent he is on

Hawks!!!!! lost to the blaze so i shouldn’t claim loyalty to them

  • chintao

@ Moose ==> What? They don’t have thesauruses in Boston?

  • chintao

R.I.P. Conrad McRae. Brooklyn Tech and Syracuse will always remember.

  • Pat

nah he didnt play in the olympics because he couldnt attend training camp due to being busy with the Raptors.

@chintao-don’t u mean dictionary? how could u confuse the two?

  • GGG

Hursty – its good to see the odd Aussie or 2 having a crack at the NBA. Real shame when things outside of their control can take away that dream.

And next time I will throw in “dawg” to throw the scent…

  • Jaylen Rose

As an Aussie this is so depressing as He and Patty Mills will be our best Players.

  • stokesey

@Ken nah he didnt play in the olympics he was working out for nba teams im pretty sure, hopefully they can sort out whatever problem he has, dude is a beast

  • Sanchez

Nooooooo!! Hope he can come back to full health and then to the NBA. Was really looking forward to watching his career unfold. Also how is it that E Curry had an irregular heartbeat when he clearly has no heart??
