Never Meant To Be

Well, SLAM can’t be right all the time…

Reversing their jersey’s for SLAM’s group cover shoot was supposed to be just the beginning for Elton Brand, Lamar Odom and Darius Miles, who were poised to create a similar turnaround for the lowly Clippers. Although we never got to watch the trio grow together, Brand was able to lead the Clips back to the playoffs before being the last of the bunch to leave town in the summer of ’08. — Adam Fleischer

Hey guys? Put the cover with the Nets and your infamous headline “champs by 20***” up, THAT’S even better. Still love ya though (so much so, i just extended my subscribtion)

Thanks, D. When you’re talking about the Nets, you almost always have to write in superlative.

Oh heck, i done got Ryne mad at me.

D, haha if that’s Ryne mad, I think his version of hate mail might be laced with compliments.

Btw. Ryne, hope you had a good Christmas, nice to see you changed one aspect that was bugging most commenters after the layout change (the commenter names being above the post). You guys at slamonline sure listen to your customers, great stuff.

Justin, and lots of “cool” smilies…

@Justin. Yeah, you are right. I think i totally misunderstood him there :-) . Gotta fix my sarcastometer.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Believe it or not, Darksaber, I’m glad that aspect is fixed as well. Changes are still being made, but I’m glad that was among the first alterations on the the (considerably long) list.

To be honest, i initially disliked the new look, font etc. But i’ve gotten used to it even faster than the last change on slamonline. And the page switches are slightly faster, and the whole mainpage loads quicker too.

Ryne, do you use Google Analytics for studying the traffic to slamonline or something your guys came up with and embedded. Just curious because i use it on my old team’s site, and the data you can gain from it is sooo cool. visiting countries etc etc etc.

Is it me, or does Elton, LO and Miles look like a group of “bad guys” Fat Albert and the Gang would have walked up on passing by the basketball courts?

darius looks like he smoked too much. hes paranoid

If I remember correctly, it was their idea to rock the jerseys backwards. Not sure whose idea it was to have them wear each other’s—that might have come from them as well.

  • From out of Nowhere

That reminds me of a similar photo I once saw of KG, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, a trio that was obviously far more successful.

    D, we’re not fancy…Analytics FTW.

Odom’s head looking displaced like the GP cover(or a ghost horror movie). Boy have megapixels improved since this pic was taken. I would also wager these guys back then were known in SLAM as having “Krazy Mad Moves.”

wait, so is darius miles taller than both odom and brand?

  • Peach Basket Dreams

Quietly, this was one of my favorite covers. There are a couple other trios that I think should be featured on covers like this one. Memphis: Gay, Mayo and Gasol. Oklahoma: Durant, Green, and now Chandler.

And if you want to do a geriatric version…McGrady, Yao and Artest.

    That’d be hot.

Of course it was never meant to be. They landed with the Clips. If they had all landed with a respectable franchise, it could’ve been something beautiful.
