Jason Kidd Wants to Play for D’Antoni

by Marcel Mutoni

The Mavs played the Knicks in Dallas last night, and gutted out a tough win over the struggling New Yorkers. What everyone wanted to discuss, though, was Jason Kidd’s impending free agency.

The soon-to-be 36-year old point guard says he wouldn’t mind suiting up for D’Antoni and running the show in Gotham. From the NY Daily News:

Kidd, who has told close friends that he would love to finish his career in New York, did not rule out the possibility of signing with the Knicks in July when asked about his future Thursday.

“Yeah, why not?” Kidd said. “I’m going to look and see. Coach (Mike D’Antoni) is great. And I got to know him a little bit this summer (at the Olympics).”

In a previous lifetime, Kidd would’ve been absolutely perfect for D’Antoni and his system. Now, of course, Jason isn’t anywhere near the player he used to be, so D’Antoni might not even want him when free agency rolls around. Sad, really.

D’Antoni should be forced to coach every team for like a week at a time during the regular season

Um, the game was in Dallas.

And I’m sure the Knicks are gonna burn some of their valuable LeBronspace by signing Jason freaking Kidd to back up Chris Duhon.

    What Russ said.

    Can we just clone D’Antoni?

  • a_whiteman

He probably wouldn’t command a high salary, because I’m sure he knows he’s not worth it. He could still put up 6 6 and 8 for antoni in 20-25mins a game, that’s solid backup pg numbers

  • Marcel Mutoni

    fixed. sorry about that.

  • a_whiteman

And its not like antoni would punish him for not playing d

  • 王骁男

imagine that KIDD and NASH playing in the same team with the run-gun system. although they are old

  • Todd Spehr

I wonder what would happen if Paul Westhead began coaching in the L again…

I just heard Magic Johnson would love to play for D’antoni.

Steve Francis would like D’Antoni’s cell number.

I heard if what Tad says is true, Cuttino Mobley will have D’Antoni killed in a (irregular) heartbeat

Jason Kidd is talking about his next coach and team. Why am I not surprised?

  • memyselfand9

Anybody that is, or has become, a marginal star should want to play for D’Antoni; you don’t have to play defense and you get to inflate your numbers.

  • Son of Shawn

I´m with TAD: Bring back Doug Moe! and Westhead! and players like Glenn Robinson or Kukoc

  • Cizzo

I think I mean I know it would work offesively everyboby like to play his style!

Someone said….. could you imagine jason kidd and Steve Nash playin on the same team? They actually did at one time. Nash, kidd, and Kevin Johnson were all on the Suns at the same time one year. That’s kinda nuts when you think about it.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    NOOOOOOOOOO

Portland Trailblazers! Off the bench, split the minutes. Call me crazy, but a semi-effective point man off the bench is one of the things that they need. Plus, they get veteran experience. Again, call me crazy. But they already have too many players, so that prolly won’t happen.

  • From out of Nowhere

The Blazers were looking at Kidd last season prior to the Devin Harris trade, but Kidd said that he didn’t want to play on a young team and that was it.

(They also tried to get Devin Harris… man, imagine if they had pulled that off)

  • Jimmy G

Kidd coming off the bench for the Blazers? That’s some crazy talk. People look at the numbers and that its, but its different when you go from an offense that goes through you (in Jersey)to a won where you are a 3rd to 4th option (in Dallas). D’Antoni’s offense isn’t the only offense that inflates numbers, right Mr Frank?

Still can barely hit a 3 pointer … how is that possible when you make over $10 million a year??
Could have gone down as one of the best ever, definitely has the instinct, knowledge, and skill. Sad to see him look away from the RIDICULOUSLY OBVIOUS all these years.

    OTHER RIDICULOUSLY OBVIOUS
    1) SHAQ/FREETHROWS (better recently, like it matters)
    2) KG CAN’T DOMINATE THE PAINT (he can but he’s scared)
    3) KOBE’S EGO STILL BIGGER THAN HIS GAME (considereing how good his game is, that’s saying alot, and why he’ll never touch Jordan, why LeBron has a better chance).

All very good points above but I think it said he answered a ? from a reporter which means he did not bring up the scenario of playing in NY or any place else. We need to stop bashing players for answering ?’s AND bashing them for no comments.
