Kevin Love on His Rookie Game Snub

When all else fails, blame the politics. Yeah!: “I thought it was all political,” Love said of the decision by the league’s assistant coaches to choose players such as Marc Gasol and Greg Oden over him. “Just have to keep playing the way I’ve been playing, keep winning. We’re 10-2 in the month of January, so I just have to keep trying to play the way I have in the second half of the season.”

    Well, first. Obviously.

But, otherwise, whatever. If these things were based solely on merit, he’d have a gripe. But they aren’t, so he doesn’t. Enjoy having a few days off, homie. Get some rest, see the fam, come back and finish the year strong, maybe finish top 5 in ROY voting. Love is Love.

Damn politicians and their lack of respect for outlet passes.

  • WhaHuh

Its true though, portland bias. The rookies dont need 3 centres or rudy fernandez

I think this will be a continuing trend for Kokomo’s career for the next decade or so….dreams of an All-Star berth…..and then let down……dreams of an All-Star berth….let down. Poor guy. Poor Ryan.

How long till David Stern sends K-Love to Guantanamo?

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

“it’s political”…possibly, but if anyone deserved it over oden it was thompson- not you.

Kevin Love is right! That’s correct, you bums, Kevin Love has a legitimate bit-h. Marc Gasol? Give me a freakin’ break. Lerch Lopez? No f*kin’ way. Let’s get some knowledgeable commenters, besides me, plz….

  • underdog

Dude plays a solid game, so sooner or later he will get his credit.

Sebastian, I’m not sure I would give Love the call over those two players. They had the opportunity to play on a consistent basis and put up some good numbers thus far. You have to admit it.

  • Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow, esq.

Numbers? You talkin’ ##’s. Kevin Love (23 minutes per game/8.4 rebounds/9 points) – Marc Gasol (30 minutes per game/7.1 rebounds/11 points) – Lerch Lopez (30 minutes per game/7.8 rebounds/11 points). What? They awarding rooks based on minutes per game? This is crazy stupid.

Kevin Love might not become a perennial all-star, but he’s going to be one of those supporting role players that every good team will be after.

exactly. portland bias. so they dropped the one dude who actually grew up there. when will the portland media stop?

  • Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow, esq.

Kevin Love doesn’t not start, but he does finish. McHale is using good time management in allocating his minutes.

  • WhaHuh

lopez is the best rookie center. sebastian is not a knowledgeable commenter

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Why do Kevin Love fans use his rebounding as their main argument for him not being in this game a snub? I didn’t think the rookie challenge (which is nothing but transition game shots and dunks, no fundamentals, its an all star paced game) was about rebounds entirely. because that’s what you guys seem to be implying. Love has more rebounds than gasol and lopez, but also has LESS points. Also, this isn’t fan voting that chose the teams, it was assistant coaches. Inside information folks.

  • riggs

brook lopez > kevin love. real talk.

A hundred years from now no one’s gonna care. Hell, a hundred DAYS from now no one’s gonna care. You know who else didn’t play in the rookie game? Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. Sure, there wasn’t one, but maybe that’s the whole point.

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Russ, do you think they should faze out the rookie game? or just have the rookie game be pure fan voting since the rookie game doesn’t have much to make players totally motivated like in the last 2 minutes of the ASG

  • Donn

I still remember that one rookie-soph game where the guys stopped playing in the last minutes of the game and they had an impromptu dunk contest….it was such a joke…just bring back the legends game…i don’t know how old moses malone is but i bet he would play hard all game..

  • d’bri

Stop blaming Bush for everything, he’s gone Big Love!

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Justin’s 1:26 comment was great. Very good points, IMO, Oden doesn’t deserve a spot on the roster. Go to the numbers.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

But I would actually put Love ahead of Thompson. Love is outshined having Big Al there, and he’s putting up better numbers than Jason. All notions of “it’s not about rebounding, it’s an all-star paced game” aside, and Love is the better rookie out of Thomspon/Oden/him. He just isn’t getting covered at all. So I guess I don’t agree with Mr. Walsh’s first comment. Sorry, Justin.

  • Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow, esq.

Youthful Justin comments, “Also, this isn’t fan voting that chose the teams, it was assistant coaches. Inside information folks.” Lad, did you ever wonder why they are not head coaches? I don’t.

  • Sebastian B. O. Bunionstow, esq.

Article states, Love gets 23% of all boards when on the floor. Should on on the list.

  • Jackie Moon

I heard the assistant coaches give their ballots to the equipment managers.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Everybody talks about his per mins stats but MAYBE THERE’S A REASON why he doesn’t play 30+ mins per game.
I value minutes a lot. Especially for rookies. It shows that his coach has enough confidence in his rook to throw him in the fire.

  • Blinguo

Mark Jackson says – “Hey hey, what are you doing (rook)? That’s right nothin’” And Kevin Love goes back in the luggage compartment.

anyone who would take love over lopez on their team is drunk. lopez will be a monster defensively, and with his decent big-man range, he will be a perennial all-star in the league. stop reading stats and watch games.

$tev3, you are drunk. good for you for getting a head start on me, though.

  • http://www.bbl.org.uk Josh D

He is palying well, but it wasn’t a snub he only started playing well this month, and it would be a bit crazy to vote him in infront of players who have been consistent all year
