LeBron: Amped for Tonight’s Showdown With the Celtics

by Marcel Mutoni

To deflect the pressure and enormity of the moment, most NBA players do their best to downplay the hype when it comes to big matchups. LeBron James, as you might’ve guessed, is not most NBA players.

King James is helping to build up the hype for the game tonight against the team that knocked him out of the Playoffs last season. It’s also becoming increasingly clear that LeBron is obsessed with slaying the C’s.

From the Boston Globe:

As Cavaliers star LeBron James’s media session wound down after a blowout win over Charlotte Wednesday, the climax of the Celtics’ game against Houston was being shown on three flat-screen televisions in Cleveland’s locker room.

Once James answered his last question, which involved tonight’s showdown against Boston, he walked directly in front of the TV closest to his locker and became transfixed with the Celtics’ 89-85 loss. He openly rooted against the Celtics, as did teammates Daniel Gibson and ex-Celtic Delonte West.

“We know it is not just another game,” he said. “We’re looking forward to the challenge.”

So, yeah, tonight should be fun.

A struggling Celtics team desperate to get back in the win column, going up against the team that could very well knock them off their throne come Playoff time and that’s licking its chops right now. As a certain Dallas Cowboy might say, getcha popcorn ready.

Obviously, bestkeptsecret didn’t follow basketball before ’05.

    K. Let Bron win the game in January. I want the wins in June.

  • AlbertBarr

@Tzvi T: If you don’t get the one now when Cavs have no Z, don’t bet on getting any in June.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

If Cavs have homecourt throughout the playoffs, it’s a wrap.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

I hope Lebannon James drops 50 and a triple dub on them.

@albertbarr Injuries are part of basketball. Who says Z is gonna be healthy in June? Who says the Celts are healthy now?

  • http://hoops4life.com overtime

A big ole nasty dunk on Garnett should be a lovely message

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

No Z, and the Celtics dying to break their skid = Cavs’ first home loss. Mark it.

I hope Garnett tries barking at Ben Wallace and gets laid out

  • riggs

my the difference a damn year makes. the celts loses a few and all the haterade comes pouring out. yes i said haterade like it was 2001

  • namik

LeBron James amped up is a scary thought. If his teammates don’t let him down, the Cavs have this.

  • wilz

not gonna happen B. Long…unless he draws 20 fouls barreling through the lane…in which case you can forget about the assists

Since Bron’s big homie Ryan seems so certain, i’m laying down a big, fat bet on the C’s tonight.

I have it on authority that Mr. James does not have crabs but has an incredible crib.

They better tighten the bolts on the rims in Cleveland tonight. I have a feeling Lebron and the cavs are gonna bring something special tonight. I’ll take that bet TAD.

We should take a moment to wish Kevin Garnett a speedy recovery, what with his bad leg and such. The poor lad as been riding a bum peg for days and now faces the creatures of his doom. Is this any way to treat a dogged legend in the making?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Garnett better not have any illusions about challenging Bron at the rim. No one else in the league should either, for that matter. I’m legitimately excited for tonights games though.

You know what would be the highlight of the year? If KG dunked on Bron and then blew a cloud of talc powder in his face.

  • KobeWearsThreeRings

the celtics will always be hated. after dec. 25, nobody fears them anymore. they’re that punk at the sf2 machine doing the same two moves with ryu. kids got it figured out now. game over.

Random rant: ESPN Classic showed Game 7 of the 2008 East semis yesterday – CLE@BOS, the LBJ/Pierce game – and they showed the majority of the first three quarters but chopped the first SEVEN minutes of the fourth quarter out… yes, I’m frustrated. Oh, and Cavs win tonight.

    Reday for the great game

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

The Celtics are like disgruntaled postal employees without guns. YOu dont wanna cross em, but if you do nothing happens besides dirty looks and junk talk.

^comment of the day occured at 3:24 when B.Long accepted my greatness, which triggered a series of events that led to Judas becoming a good chrisian. B.Long is a savior.

The Celtics are the hobbled Sisters of the Poor. Their collective psyches are atwitter. The entitled Cavs are their Masters of Disaster. Once the janitors clean the floor, who will be there to blame for the 6th loss of 8? Is it Doc? The wobbly Garnett? The missing PG off the bench? Will Big Baby shed tears? I ask you.

Bron will crab dribble the Celtics to hell tonight

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Seriously, when LeBron James comes to New York, we’re going to have a HUGE rivalry on our hands. New York and Boston already kind of hate each other. Add the competitive LeBron to the mix? Mmmmm… I smell some good basketball for 2010.

  • http://www.gmail.com joe

    Jake is rite!!!!
    Go Cavs!!!!

  • http://www.gmail.com joe

lebron james is a beast who can not be tamed. if u like the cavs bring some popcorn..but if u like boston id suggest bringing some tissues for all the issues u will have after ur championship team let lebron drop 50.

  • Joey

yeah but in 2010, the C’s are gonna be mediocre

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

BETCATS, sometimes they get mad and $hoot you down. Boston does that, dude, come on!

  • RayRayJr

    Cavs by 15

  • Mike

It’s not a slump/ it’s still mathmatically possible for us (celtics) to win 73 games.

  • CP34MVP

Yea n look who one!! Darn Right its the boy James

  • http://Ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Lebreezy is the realness! I think the Cavs and Magic (and the rest of the league for that matter) smell blood in the water. Somehow Rondo seems to have regressed as fast as he had improved. He did have 13 dimes but, It’s like he just freezes up every time he gets near the rim and he doesn’t seem to have any confidence right now.

  • http://slamonline.com Joey

Bron single handily punked the Celts. Wow are they in a slump

  • Mike

It’s not a slump damn it!

  • http://www.kicksonfire.com Anton

That game was far more exciting than the Lakers/Celtics baby mama drama.
    Haha Hack-a-Ben.
