Mark Cuban Informs J.R. Smith That He’s Going to Snitch on Him

by Marcel Mutoni

So, this should end well.

Things got testy between the Nuggets and Mavs last night, and wouldn’t you know it, but Mark Cuban decided to get more than a little involved. After J.R. Smith apparently threw an elbow in the waning moments of the first half, the Mavericks’ team owner let him know that he’d be snitching on him to the League office, and expected him to face a suspension.

Unsurprisingly, George Karl did not appreciate Cuban’s little threat. From the Rocky Mountain News:

“I don’t care if Cuban barks, but he shouldn’t be barking at my players,” Karl said. “He barked at J.R. at halftime. I thought it was very unprofessional, irresponsible. And if he sees something that he wants to deliver to the league, fine, he can do that.”

“But he shouldn’t be on the court talking to one of my players. And he was talking to J.R. about an elbow situation. And I thought it doesn’t look good for anybody.”

Hilariously enough, J.R. Smith offered Cubes a pair of signed shoes following the game in an effort to calm everyone’s nerves and show that there’s no ill will, and naturally, Mark refused them and continued to rage through the night. Fun.

Mark Cuban get a life besides trying to be some tough guy owner and rthe richest idiot on Earth.

  • solito Posted: Jan.14 at 11:37 am
Business must be bad for Cubs, that he needs to go to sports games and vent. Classless…

  • Julius J. Hornswaggle IV Posted: Jan.14 at 11:39 am
Are you so sure that Mark Cuban wasn’t a prior chauffeur for Curry?

When did J.R. Smith become relevant enough that Mark Cuban would want his signed shoes?

  • Doc Funk Posted: Jan.14 at 12:00 pm
Mark Cuban shorted shares of JR Smith’s elbow before the game

  • kev Posted: Jan.14 at 12:04 pm
    cuban sucks, mavs suck

  • Darksaber Posted: Jan.14 at 12:12 pm
i agree with B.Long’s view here. Cube’s pulls that against Sloan? It’ll take the jazz frontcourt to stop Jerry whooping that billionaire butt.

  • Drew Posted: Jan.14 at 12:14 pm
It was Cuban going after the ref after the game I couldn’t believe. He ran out on the court and was berating the guy. It looked like he was saying that he was going to pay for making the call. I am a Nuggets fan, and I will admit it was a bad call. But for an owner to threaten the guys job over one call is really out of line.

  • donlaker Posted: Jan.14 at 12:40 pm
mr cuban please snitch on your own team , tell david stern your team does not finish seasons well and to give everyone A FINE/suspension
or else…..cuban you had that game.george karl? out coached you and whats his name… it comes down to poor ownership…he is like al davis he wont be happy until he is the coach

  • Z Posted: Jan.14 at 1:06 pm
Slow the eff down, Cubes. You’re an owner. If you’re not sitting on the bench during games, you have no business getting involved with whatever happens on the court. The NBA has to do something about this. Name yourself special assistant to the video coordinator or something or just shut the eff up and enjoy the game.

  • collin Posted: Jan.14 at 1:08 pm
    Mark Cuban is a idiot-jerk

  • collin Posted: Jan.14 at 1:10 pm
i also hate the mavs. go blazers. roy for MVP. mavs suck. Dirk annoys the hell outta me…..and BLOWS

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Jan.14 at 1:30 pm
Idiot-jerk is the new hotness. King’s to you, Collin.
I’d love to see JR Smith and Mark Cuban reenact their post game exchange through interpretive dance.

  • overtime Posted: Jan.14 at 1:35 pm
@Jukai–A disgusting human being? calm it down…

  • Shannon Booher Posted: Jan.14 at 2:24 pm
This might be the only possible way that George Karl could have J.R.’s back after 1-14 shooting night. Maybe this will bring those two together.

  • DP Posted: Jan.14 at 2:52 pm
J.R. is kind of cool for that.

  • donlaker Posted: Jan.14 at 3:45 pm
I wish cuban would take george karl of the dribble to the hole , cuban would probaly crab dribble and george karl would slap the ball in the stands…. go coach cuban… you are the best you are in line for a contract extension the way yor mavs finish games….

  • Z Posted: Jan.14 at 3:48 pm
Yeah, Jukai, is there something I don’t know about JR? Besides taking ill-advised 30 footers and losing his man on defense… I don’t have much dirt on him. Certainly not enough for him to be qualified as a disgusting human being…

  • bakers' dozen Posted: Jan.14 at 5:04 pm
    Somewhere, Donaghy is laughing.

  • Harlem_World Posted: Jan.14 at 6:23 pm
Characters in the game are all good, but when owners start becoming more newsworthy than the players - something is wrong. There is no place, and no instance in which an owner of the opposing team should publicly get in the face of a player. Wrong, wrong and wrong.

  • Moose Posted: Jan.14 at 7:11 pm
“It was very unprofessional, irresponsible.” Doesn’t something like that come up every time Cubes says or does something?

  • MeloMan13 Posted: Jan.14 at 7:11 pm
im with Z and overtime. Jukai is clearly mad at the fact Jr isnt on his team
    @ENDS LOL

  • Will Lee Posted: Jan.14 at 8:58 pm
Cuban, please exchange a pair of signed leather shoes

  • Luke Posted: Jan.14 at 9:15 pm
There should be a rule that prevents Mark Cuban from whining like a baby.

  • foolio_iglesias Posted: Jan.14 at 9:53 pm
L.B. would wash and rinse him too.Ditto for Sloan.
