Breaking: Not So Fast, Tyson Chandler…

by Lang Whitaker

Just got word that Tyson Chandler will not become a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder after all — dude failed his physical. The Hornets say they’re welcoming Chandler with open arms, though they were trading him to shed money to begin with.

In related news, Hornets owner George Shinn will be having a garage sale down on Poydras Street this weekend. Everything must go!

just got word on twitter and checked here…this is messed up.

  • iLL wiLL Posted: Feb.18 at 11:14 pm
Good. I was really hoping CP3 and Tyson could stay together. No homo. Tyson’s got a bad ankle and this season is pretty much a write-off.

  • thesubwayconnection Posted: Feb.18 at 11:14 pm
    Wow. That’s awkward.

  • Jason Posted: Feb.18 at 11:17 pm
he failed due to his ankle?

  • Doc Funk Posted: Feb.18 at 11:19 pm
“So Chris, I see you moved your XBox 360 into my locker… nah, man go ahead. I’ll change in the hallway. We cool, right?”

  • rob Posted: Feb.18 at 11:24 pm
if i were the hornets i would add a second round pick and replace davon hardins rights with dj white who hails from indiana and was second fiddle to e gordon thts if they really want to keep trading chandler. they better hurry and decide they play LA on friday dont anger cp…

  • a_whiteman Posted: Feb.18 at 11:27 pm
    Didn’t joe smith play tonight???

  • bbaby Posted: Feb.18 at 11:47 pm
It didn’t look like the Hornets needed him tonight.

  • Blinguo Posted: Feb.19 at 12:04 am
The Thunder just helped NOH, tremendously? Maybe. He’s no Marcus Camby in both this injury veto and defensively, but he’s still a C you can’t just buy/trade/get for a Joe Smith and Wilcox everyday.

    UH OH.

  • Dang I'm Nice!!! Posted: Feb.19 at 12:12 am
LOLLL wow this is too hilarious!!!

  • Kevin Wilson Posted: Feb.19 at 12:29 am
Whiteman, Smith didn’t play. Players never join their new teams until all members pass physicals. I believe that’s in the CBA. Anyway, here’s the box score, no Joe. http://www.nba.com/games/20090218/ORLNOH/boxscore.html

the guys commentating the blazer game tonight said he had a bigger injury that no one knew about besides the hornets

  • wilz Posted: Feb.19 at 12:44 am
i think the hornets will be glad this happened when all is said and done

  • wilz Posted: Feb.19 at 12:44 am
    ill will is on slamonline!

  • Blinguo Posted: Feb.19 at 12:48 am
He needs to hit Stojakavic’s Good Feet store hookup.

  • Tommy Vercetti Posted: Feb.19 at 1:01 am
    Well isn’t this awkward.

  • tealish Posted: Feb.19 at 1:09 am
It’s possible to intentionally fail a physical, right?

  • Roy Posted: Feb.19 at 1:39 am
Maybe Tyson Chandler purposely failed his physical…

  • Tzvi T Posted: Feb.19 at 2:24 am
The weirdest part, according to ESPN, is that the doctor who failed him for his toe problem is the one who performed the surgery on him.

  • Rob Posted: Feb.19 at 2:35 am
i would love to see a tyson chandler, james posey trade for chris bosh. wouldnt tht be great?

  • Anton Posted: Feb.19 at 3:31 am
Every single player in the NBA on the trading block just got a crazy idea…

  • Ka Posted: Feb.19 at 4:59 am
You know things are bad when OKC is turning you down . . .

  • Moose Posted: Feb.19 at 6:47 am
JOE SMITH!!!! GET ON IT, CELTICS!!!

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.19 at 8:24 am
    This changes…….NOTHING!

  • matt the jazz fan Posted: Feb.19 at 8:39 am
if the hornets were a bit better, or the rest of the west (and celts and cavs) a bit worse, then this would have obvious parallels with sean elliott and the spurs right before their first title

  • Kadavour Posted: Feb.19 at 8:53 am
this just means that he has a much worse injury problem than the Hornets let on. I doubt it was anything he could intentionally fake.

  • riggs Posted: Feb.19 at 9:00 am
    kevin durant: :(

  • Z Posted: Feb.19 at 9:29 am
That was such a coup for OKC!

  • Z Posted: Feb.19 at 9:31 am

  • LeoneL Posted: Feb.19 at 10:33 am

  • Cizzo Posted: Feb.19 at 11:12 am

  • the baconator Posted: Feb.19 at 2:07 pm
Isn’t this every GM’s worst nightmare? “Hey, sorry we tried to trade in a giant salary dump! Still looking forward to playing this Friday?”

  • Zee! Posted: Feb.19 at 2:08 pm
    Embrace the martian…..

i don’t think okc turned him down. i think cp piped up and let george shinn know he wasn’t happy with the scenario and the “turf toe” bit was a coverup. turf toe. riiiiiight…..

  • hbk Posted: Feb.24 at 9:17 pm
