Drew Gooden is a Spur

No big surprise here: “The Spurs have reached an agreement with free agent power forward Drew Gooden that will add the 6-foot-10 veteran to the team’s roster by the end of the week…Gooden can’t officially sign with the Spurs until today, when the league verifies he has cleared waivers. Since they have 15 players on their roster, they will first have to create a spot, most likely by waiving Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who signed a 10-day contract last Wednesday.”

Could be a major help for them.

  • Solly What

As if he could say no to Pop’s luscious beard

  • Squirrel7

Why would he need Pop’s lucious beard when he has one of his own?!!!!

damn, my Lakers need to watch out for that.
why don’t Lakers just waive sun yue, and sign somebody that can play, some PF or center…

Wow, could be a big help.

Good for Drew. If Pop doesn’t manage to finally teach him how to properly rotate on defense, it’s hopeless.

On the one hand, I’m not looking forward to rooting for Gooden. On the other hand, I am looking forward to the Champs returning to the throne.

I think there’ll be a new “playoff beard” tradition in San Anton.

Very nice addition. Looks like the Celts made their addition (Mikki) to early in the game. Having Kurt Thomas and Bonner backing up Gooden and Duncan is a good look in the front court, and when healthy, our back court is stacked. While not a big Gooden fan, I really like the move.

I love the move. Looks like the Spurs are going to be their contending selves again. Lakers/Spurs in the WCF would be perfect, to go along with the Celts/Cavs in the East. When do the playoffs start?

poor Pops Mensah-Bonsu, now he wont get a ring if they win one.

This is kinda good and bad becuase as a british spurs supporter i want Drew to come to San Antonio but i don’t want Pops to be waived becuase he has been playing so well and having a Team GB player on the team i support is really cool

I cant figure out who david thorpe is talking about. i challenge any true baskebtall fan to find out who this is!!!!

Years ago, I heard about a short little shooter (whose name is not important) heading into the 10th grade. I went to watch him play at a basketball camp that featured nothing but top-rated players, 16 and under. Most observers thought he’d be overwhelmed by the talent.

He played well in his first game, but his team trailed by 9 with 50 seconds to go. However, he then made three consecutive 3-pointers, plus a steal, and suddenly the game was tied. We all stood slack-jawed at what had just happened. But the player acted as if he expected that ending.

Two years later, he led the nation in scoring (50 ppg) and was a McDonald’s All-American. Two years after that, as a college soph, he was a starter in the NCAA title game. The kid was easy to write off, but he just kept coming, because he knew he had “it.” Those of us who saw that last-minute performance knew he’d end up being a difference-maker.

  • adam

David Thorpes Trivia question. Its Teddy Dupay. I looked it up. Averaged 45 a game in high school. started for florida in the 2000 title game as a sophmore and was a mcdonalds all american. THanks ben.

…and the rich get richer? The Spurs’ bench is suddenly looking a lot deeper. If their trio is healthy come playoff time, watch out West.
