Thanks to Kobe’s ‘Selfishness’, the Mavs Can Beat L.A. in Playoffs

by Marcel Mutoni

Um, that’s according to Ryan Hollins of the Mavs, a man who has played in a whopping 18 games this season, and clocked about 9 minutes per.

Hollins, appearing on a sports radio talk show, gave the Lakers (and their leader) some great motivational material should the two squads meet in the first round of the postseason.

The Dallas Morning News has the details:

Hollins went so far as to provide some insight on how the Mavs could succeed as an 8 seed against the Lakers, whom he acknowledged were the team to beat. The key: Take advantage of Kobe’s selfishness.

“Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players in the game, and I think sometimes he has issues trusting his teammates,” said Hollins, who probably saw a lot of Lakers games while playing college ball at UCLA. “Maybe we catch them off guard, kind of get Kobe into playing a little one-on-one or doing a little too much, I think we’ve got a shot at them definitely.”

As the local reporter helpfully points out in the post, Hollins has yet to log a single Playoff minute in his life. Should he get the opportunity this year, one can’t help but feel that it won’t be a pleasant experience.

Wow, really? Ron Artest and Kobe have almost split their games against each other down the middle. And sorry, but Kobe only played half a game of basketball, because that whole first half Ron and Shane made him look like a child.

I think the SHAQ vs KOBE is getting played out. It’s like watching the tv show prison break. Gets old watching these fools break out of prison for 4 seasons. I want to see Kobe and Lebron in the finals. Or Wade vs Lebron. Those would be great series’.

    L33tSauce,
Are you really serious? MJ learned to pass in his 5th year? This is what I’m talking about. Do you know that MJ didn’t start trusting his teammates until Phil Jackson got there and even then he was reluctant. Phil told a story of how he had to get in MJ’s face every now and then to pass the ball! And we’re talking about championship years! Mj averaged 44 points in ’93 NBA finals! 44! Why? He turned that series into a MJ vs Charles duel. I could keep going but I think these few examples should give you an idea. Not everybody liked playing with MJ! He wasn’t liked by everybody ’cause he was an asshole! Mj was no saint! So, quit the double standards!

What double standard? Did the Bulls win that series? Yes, and in 6 games. When Kobe goes off for 50 in the playoffs his team manages to lose. MJ did what he had to to win, whether it was dish to teamates one game or score the next. So, like i said, its not close. And i guess 8 dimes a game is selfish. I never knew that, thanks for opening my eyes.

    L33tSauce,
You’re an idiot and I really mean that! I don’t even think Jesus Christ himself could open your eyes! When Kobe scored 81 points in a game, wasn’t he doing what he had to do to win the game the Lakers were actually throwing away to the Raptors? And all people kept ssaying was how selfish he was! But MJ does it and he’s doing what he has to do? Didn’t he have Pippen? Now to the playoffs. He scored 50 points one game and the next game he scored 20 and everyone said he quit! Do you see what I mean by “Double Standard”

    L33tsauce,
And if Phil Jackson is getting in MJ’s face to pass the ball, then maybe, just maybe MJ’s doing something wrong!
