Thinking of Chuck Daly

Some good thoughts for the legendary coach, who’s battling pancreatic cancer: “This one is for Chuck Daly today. This one is for Chuck Daly because he has always been one of the good guys, even if he did coach that famous Pistons team known as the Bad Boys. This one is for Chuck Daly, who not only knew how to win in basketball but knew how to do it with tremendous style. Who never thought of himself as some kind of genius, or thought he was reinventing his sport when he had the players.”

Man, I grew up on Daly and the Bad Boy Pistons. Chuck is a legendary and great coach and an even better person. God speed to him and his family.

Would’ve been cooler to run Harvey Araton’s piece instead of that d*uche-pimple Lupica…

Chuck Daly is probably the classiest guy from that era. Riley is a don, but he’s pretty slimy. I guess K.C. Jones was OK, even though I despise Boston (the entire town and almost everyone in it, not just the Celts). I can’t remember much about Billy Cunningham.

Hope you do recover and get to continue your life cancer free Chuck. You were always a cool cat in my book, compared to these slick cats on the sidelines nowadays (umm not you Phil, LB, Don and Jerry S), i always enjoyed the rough looks of the Daly. Looked tough as hell. Oh and he helped assemble DT1. Much props for that!

Chuck Daly was the basketball coach in Punxsutawney,PA,in the late 50′s early 60′s. He was a gentleman in every way and inspired our boys to be the same.He was so well-groomed, much like my own father. We all had a crush on Mr. Daly!! His wife Terry was quite elegant and seemed more sophisticated than anyone else in town. To this day I love watching basketball games. I am holding Chuck and his family in my prayers. Blessings, Marilyn Stein Underhill, PAHS Class 1960
