Is Kobe Not Playing Hard Enough?

His coach seems to think so: “The question was about Kobe Bryant’s recent lack of shooting touch, but Lakers coach Phil Jackson skipped right past the specifics to deliver a sweeping condemnation of the entire team’s lackluster play of late. ‘You know, my issue with the players is that they’re not working hard enough,’ Jackson said. ‘They’re saving steps. When you do that, you try to get by without having to exert yourself enough to win games the right way. And Kobe is one of those people who is doing that. He’s measuring out what it takes to win a ballgame. This is a veteran who’s been through a lot of seasons. We just have to shorten his minutes a little bit to keep his legs live.’”

just for the heck of it- Kobe sucks. Ryan Jones is better. So is LeBron. Kevin Love too.

Gee……odd that some of us say the same thing and we’re fu*king nuts…..then his coach says it and validates the fact that the majority of the general basketball watching public (YES, I’M LOOKING AT YOU)knows little about the innerworkings of how the game is played and how guys present themselves on the court and how even great players like Kobe kind of dog it when they feel they can get away with it. Of course we know Phil is a master motivator and it’s the perfect time for button pushing so……

  • Kozmic

    Lakers ain’t gettin sh*t!

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I bet at 46, MJ would be playing harder than Kobe. If he was in the league, that is.

  • Sean

Phil is a master manipulator. Wait and see what Kobe does against the Mavs tonight! I’m predicting a 40+ night…

    lakers suck

  • kwame

i dont understand how the lakers suck if they r 1st in the west…

  • Kozmic

Big whoop Kwame, they were the 1st last year, didn’t seem to come in handy in the Finals. Then there were the Mavericks when they were first and knocked out by the 8th seed Warriors, could karma be that delightful this year?

I measure out how much work it takes to get through a day at my job…
    Isn’t that normal?

  • Jackie Moon

Allenp, “measuring out” includes commenting on Slam, right?

  • Jackie Moon

    Imagine if Kobe tried …

  • Remo Williams

i hope their opponents in the playoffs think Kobe’s going to coast…

  • Sean

    @ Boing,
    Fair enough…

  • Michael

I’ve been saying this for like a month now. It’s obvious, all of his effort numbers are down. Free throws, FG%, rebounds down across the board the last 20 games. I don’t mind it, he’s saving his body for the playoffs, but it’s a little annoying to watch.

  • Static

Dr Phil, master of the obvious; I have a feelin seein JR tonite might resurrect KB8, jackin up 30+ shots a game

  • Mike

whoever said Kev love is better than Kobe above (kidding or not) is a tard
and we all know it’s tough to play games at your best when you’ve had the western conference clinched for a month basically
and I’m sure they’ll have no problem getting back into that effort mindset when elimination is possible (but not probable)

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

‘I’m sure they’ll have no problem getting back into that effort mindset’ / ahh, the good ol’ we’ll switch it on when it matters mentality. so seductive but rarely effective. great teams never turn it off.

White girls around the nations are relieved that Kobe’s not playing while hard.

  • Static

lol…i just blew milk thru my nose on that one

  • http://nba.com tealish

Anton has consistently delivered on one-liners involving Kobe and white girls. Another gem.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

Anton has the one liners on LOCK

I think this is ust another midgame from the Zen Master. I really want tosee what would happen if JR gives Kobe 30 tonight.

  • truthteller

Somehow, I don’t see that happening this year!

  • truthteller

Anton, when are you taking your show on the road?

  • KoBynum716

whoever said lakers suck is a retard. they have the 2nd best record in the league, first in the west locked, and we’re facing the mavs in the first round. i think lakers are good for now. as for phil’s comments, he is the zen master, just wait and see what happens people, dont hate because u know kobes the G.O.A.T.

  • Jackie Moon

Once again, Anton with his unfunny lines. Get some new material. Try to make a joke about Kobe not involving the words “white girl”, “Colorado”, or “Shaq”. You can’t.

  • Jackie Moon

Oh, and don’t forget that classic Anton phrase “diamond ring”. Failure.

  • DaRealest*24*

Kobe is the best player in the NBA but its like he isnt as aggressive as before. I know his team is winning but sometimes its not even fun to watch him play anymore. He is my favorite player but lately he has looked like a different player. Hopefully he is JUST WAITING on the playoffs to show his greatness.

  • nate the great

    haha Antons God!

  • Jackie Moon

Anton is God of the Mentally Defective.

  • DJR

Kobe just killed the Nugs – and Pau was an ABSOLUT! beast tonight. Kobe is resting big time before the playoffs. 34min against the #2 seed?? Who knows how dominant a rested Mamba will be in May and June…

  • chintao

Jackie Moon is a sore loser.
