Chris Paul Doesn’t Want to Lose David West

If the Hornets get rid of the forward this summer, CP3 will not be a happy camper: “In February, the Hornets traded Chandler to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the deal was rescinded after he failed their physical examination because of a previous toe injury that required surgery in April 2006. West has two years remaining on his contract valued at a combined $17.2 million. He is a two-time All-Star and averaged 21.0 points during the regular season. But if the Hornets try to move West, that might not sit well with franchise player Chris Paul. ‘He’s our go-to guy,’ Paul said. ‘Everybody knows night-in and night-out that we want to get D-West going. He’s a huge key to what we do.’ West is not concerned about trade rumors, but he said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower should aggressively pursue improving the roster this summer.”

CP3: I heart DW…take away his help and leave him with what? More jumpshooters?

idk.. i wouldnt mind seeing a different more dependible big man with cp3.

yeah make some moves…that team is going nowhere with west

Two years left at a reasonable $8.6 per, a two-time All-Star, and the perennial MVP candidate and franchise savior loves him? Man, DEFINITELY trade him.

Yeah, trading West isn’t going to solve any of their problems. Personally, I’m not a fan, but as Russ said, his contract is very reasonable, he’s their most consistent scorer, he brings some toughness and it pretty obvious that CP3 wants to keep him around.
How much more money do they owe Peja? He looks done to me. They really need a legitimate two guard, and some depth. Really, CP3, DWest and Rasual Butler are the only players on their team with any value. They’ll have to spend more to bring in some talent unless they can figure out a way to unload Peja.

lol @ Russ…u kno George Shinn don’t care bout nuthin but that dollar

Tell Shinn we’ll trade him Rip for DWest. And Russ, from i’m looking at, West still has 4 years left at $9.8 mil.

TAD we do need front court scoring, but I would prefer a true big man with more of a post up game. I would love to get rid of Rip.

  • Tavoris

cdef, the only TRUE big men with a post up game that’s available are Chris Kaman and Eddy Curry.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Um, Kaman is signed for 4 more years. Joe Dumars wouldn’t touch Curry with a 10 foot Krispy Kreme. Honestly, only if Boozer opts out will there be a legit big. I’m not even sure if that will happen. Philly may look at trading Elton, but that is a risk as well. Dumars better be poking up the Bosh and Amare trees until one of them shakes loose.

For some reason, I really dislike West. I don’t think trading him will necessarily make the Hornet better, though. They just need a healthy Chandler, a two-guard and some depth. Chandler being banged up all season was a huge factor in their decline.

  • Tavoris

TADOne, I know that Kaman has a bad contract, but he’s available if a team wants to explore a trade. I was more trying to bring home the point that the low-post scoring centers are pretty much undesireable or unattainable.

  • Tavoris

TADOne, Boozer is as much an injury risk as Brand, and an even bigger chemistry risk.

I thought we were talking about the Hornets, not the Pistons

  • Prison Mike

Why doesn’t he just make who ever is on his team next year better. That’s what alleged MVP canididates are supposed to do.

Does CP realize that David West is the worst go to guy on any playoff team in the whole league?

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

Yea word why would he want hime. west is a fake thug. last year he thought he was big because he got in dirks face, but i didnt see any of that against K-mart and Nene. punking a euro and not doing the same to thugs proves your pansy-ness

Who would want the Hornets management to make any more trades of their only good players after Chandler was almost given away for nothing (ok cap room to not sign anybody right away this year), instead of replacing old (Peja) with something new. But nbk demonstrated last time, David West didn’t step up, but he’s not a flukey All Star like say Magloire who fell off the planet. West is just like Karl Malone, without the buff, and the consistent 1st team option scoring, and the layups that make him look 5 feet 9 – and thus more FTA’s with his lisping @ the line, and the behind the head one hand dunk, and the cowboy hat.

also said it in the other one, although late to the party.
    “The 18 foot assassinated.”

Having an oft injured C and a jump shooting PF is what makes CP3 look all the more appealing, he needs to be a rebounder with that weak front court…. I say try a kirilenko for peja trade – swap the perimeter shot for the defensive versatility, a trade that suits both players, tough it out with the contract situation for the remaining 2 yrs and find a james posey protege` in the up coming draft.
