Jayson Williams’s Life Continues to Unravel

Here’s the latest from the former New Jersey Net: “Former NBA star Jayson Williams was arrested early Monday after authorities say he punched someone in the face outside a Raleigh nightclub, the latest legal tribulation for the All-Star who has spent years in the courtroom since an injury ended his basketball career. Some type of dispute led Williams, 41, to hit the other person shortly before 2 a.m., Raleigh police said. Williams was charged with one count of simple assault and released on $1,000 bond.”

    @ Luke: Really?

This might sound weird, but I really feel for the guy.

I can only wish that this guy finds some peace at some point as one of only a few players that from his interviews and by all accounts he seemed like a real nice guy.

I bet it was a fancy behind the back elbow punch.

    @ Anton: Not white chocolate.

Does any one remember the story about the Duke star Jason Williams changing his name to Jay Williams because he thought the name Jason Williams was bad luck due to the NBA careers of White Chocolate and Jayson Williams. Then Jay Williams gets into a motorcycle accident ending his career. How weird is that?

just shows you cant dodge bullets.

He changed his name because there were at least two other Jason Williams in the NBA during that time. It was in a Slam issue, the very first one that had Jay Williams as a Bull. Know your Slam history.

@ Prison Mike: Yeah. Thats who i was referring to you jerk!

if you have talent and are likely to make the NBA – and your name is Jason/Jayson Williams – just change your name, you’ll be glad you did.

Writing “he punched someone in the face” must be one of the best things about being a writer.

Wow, people actually feel bad for this guy? Does anyone remember what actually happened?
He signed a monster deal for like 80 mill, then his knees fell apart and he shot a limo driver in the face with a shotgun while on a tour of his lavish estate, and wouldn’t let people(witnesses) leave without them agreeing to say that it had been an accident…Yeah, not exactly a sympathetic figure.

who did he shoot this time?

  • chintao

@ ciolstar ==> If you know the details of how he got to the point where you pick-up his story, you might be a little more sympathetic. Anyway, I hope this incident is just another case of an ex-athlete shutting-down some idiot who didn’t know when to close his mouth. If not, then a quote from “Tombstone” might apply: “A man like [Jayson Williams] has got a great empty hole running right through the middle of him…he can never kill enough, or steal enough, or inflict enough pain to ever fill it.” Williams may be seeking revenge for being born.

What a shame. He was great on NBA on NBC. What is this fascination with guns? His life was ruined in one second.

Not to make light of it, but he was released on a $1K bond for punching someone in a club. How this continues to make his life unravel, I am not seeing.
