Have the Kings Soured on Rubio?

The general feeling in Sac-town appears to be that Ricky’s draft stock has dropped: “With Thursday’s draft drawing near and the Kings’ workout schedule having been completed with Ricky Rubio’s visit Monday, the deliberating about the team’s No. 4 pick continued internally. And while their list of top candidates is believed to include Rubio, Memphis’ Tyreke Evans, Syracuse’s Jonny Flynn and Davidson’s Stephen Curry, it appears Evans is heading the group entering the final days. Although the 6-foot-7 guard is not the true point guard the Kings had hoped for, his physicality, ability to get to the rim and dynamic scoring ways have enticed the team. He raised his stock in recent workouts, dominating in Minnesota before doing the same in Sacramento. Rubio, meanwhile, may be passed over even if he is available when the Kings’ first pick arrives.”

Timberwolves fans (if their are more than one Myles Brown) are gonna be excited about this. I guess they wont need to trade up.

Saw this in the paper this morning. The Kings need a scorer who can get to the basket and draw contact because….we don’t have Kevin Martin, who is Evans with a jump shot? Please God, don’t let this happen

The more Rubio gets in the headlines over the last two weeks, the more it sounds like he’s not as good as he’s cracked up to be.

I mean, I’m Rubio’s biggest defender. The dude is going to be great. That being said, he deserves ALL the hate he gets. He’s been a total b*tch this entire draft time. That’s not good. He’s got an attitude and an ego, and that just doesn’t cut it. Better hope OKC picks him up.

Sacramento is just trying to save face by claiming that they don’t want Rubio anyway – just like a jilted lover!!

    Jeff: Very, very doubtful.

Rubio should have gon the Stephen Curry or Derrick Rose route and tell which team you WANT to play for. Saying that you don’t want to play for a team publicly is never a good PR move. I’ve read something about Kobe almost forcing the trade from CHA to LA when he got drafted but that was done behing the scene. He’ll learn.

no player has played in last month, so don’t understand why all the last minute changes in predictions

^Combine info, measurements, workouts, interviews etc… (or lack thereof in Rubio’s case)

I bet Memphis are luaghing there heads off right now,Rubios only choice may be the teams he didn’t want to go to, the Grizzlies and Thunder, speaking of which i can’t believe he’d turn down the chance to play in what could be one of the best backcourts of all time, with Rubio and Mayo or not want to set up Kevin Durant

If Sacramento (my team and the source of much sadness in my life) doesn’t take Rubio, I’m pretty sure he’ll be an all-star Steve-Nash type in about three years. I’m sure they’ll take Curry who will become the next Larry Hughes, only not as good.

Isn’t SLAM like 75% responsible for Rubio’s hype? I love the kid, personally, but he is sort of SLAM’s personal child-prodigy.

if he drops to 5, Minnesota will get him and Derozan. Anyone agree?

I don’t think Rubio has the highest ceiling in this draft like everyone says he does. It’s totally out of whack with how that title is typically tossed around. Usually it goes to the player with great athleticism and many projectable skills. Rubio is more of the great maturity and feel for the game but average athleticism type. His young age has bought him so many points of hype. What if he was just precious mentally enough to play with men much older than him but his athleticism will limit his possible ceiling. It’s very possible. He’s a solid athlete making moves on the ground but in the air he is very awkward. I think his vertical is probably 28 inches. Not to get to wrapped up in verticals or anything but there has to be an athletic minimum.
If he’s compared to Steve Nash, I don’t buy it. Nash may not jump high but he can pull off some very acrobatic finishes around the hoop against the best of shot blockers. I can’t see Rubio ever doing an up and under, dipsy-do reverse layup and finishing it.
