Pre-Draft Athletic Measurements Released!

You’ll recall we broke down the basic height/weight/wingspan numbers last week. Well, DraftExpress added plenty of goodies to its pre-draft information library, enough to virtually explode your cranium. Now you can learn pretty much anything about the players entering the 2009 Draft, just short of their toothpaste preference.

DeJuan Blair does not look like he has a 33 inch vertical.

  • Young Bo

33 inches isn’t anything special, but budinger with a 38 inch vert, more then griffin that’s surprising, and tyreke evans only with a 34 inch vert is disappointing. johnnie flynn with a 40, oh hes gonna be nice

  • Chris

Everybody said that Harden was not athletic enough to be in the league but he proved the doubters wrong. He was in the top in almost all the categories for sg. I now see him going number 3 to the Thunder. Thunder want another young stud to go with Durant. I don’t see them wanting to buy out Rubios contract and Westbrook wants to play the point.

Young Bo… Budinger is a national level volleyball player as well as bball, he’s awesome athletic, if he drops to 14th pick PHX got some work to do… actually when you look at it – there’s some decent skills right through to the 20th pick this year – it’s not really such a weak draft.

  • Young Bo

True I forgot about the volleyball skills, its just when you watch him play, he doesnt use that jumping ability, he really should be smashing on dudes more often, settles for the jumper too much, but yea he has the potential to be nice, and i doubted harden too, but he has a chance to be real special if those tests translate to the court.

  • Chris

Im a Grizz/Suns fan and if the suns pick Budinger, I will have lost the little faith left I had in Steve Kerr and not watch the Suns until he is fired. Knowing Kerr, he’ll pick him up cuz hes from the UA. Ive watched Budinger a lot and he is NOT what the suns need. They need a Small Forward but Earl Clark and James Johnson(both should be available or atleast one) are way better choices than Budinger.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com Dacre

Yeah I agree – I always look at the draft class as ‘apprentices’, because as skilled as they may be it doesn’t often translate into superstardom at the NBA level, trying to work out if we are looking at the next Vince Carter or Harold Miner is a skill all of it’s own.

  • Chris

They do not need another shooter who cant play defense. It would be absolutely rediculous if they picked budinger. They need a tough SF/PF. Clark and Johnson both fit into that category. If I had my choice the suns would be getting Earl Clark.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com Dacre

Chris – I agree very much I would LOVE to see the Suns get EARL CLARK! I just hope the suns get someone who isn’t going to be intimidated by the ‘star presence’ of Shaq and Nash. I think in many ways that kind of pressure made Lopez and Dragic feel a little out of their depth. One of those “level-headed” guys (that the Spurs seem to pick up all the time). A Defender that can shoot?? Earl Clark….
…and I’ve been blasted for saying this before – But if I have the 14th pick I’m taking a good look at Tyler Hansbrough.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com Dacre

He’s tenacity would definitely roll over to the NBA game – it’s an attitude thing – and I think there’s only a handful of young guys this year that would just get amongst it from training camp.

  • Great Balls O’Fire

39″ vert is less than my 40′ horizontal.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com Dacre

    Fav. PGs this year….
    Rubio
    Aj Price

  • Teddy-the-Bear

My favorite pgs this year are: Jennings, Flynn, Lawson.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

BJ Mullens does NOT have a no-step vert of 28.5.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Wayne Ellington is a real baller.

  • Marv The Rig

hmmm griffin showing up with some nice stats… harden is the biz

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com Dacre

I really don’t know who the SUNS should take looking at all this?!?!?
It’s great. I just hope the guy(s) making the decisions really get someone special – I want an all-rookie 2nd team surprise!! (Then again, how do you forecast court time for this young cat, without someone like Matt Barnes, Grant Hill or Leandro Barbosa missing out on some burn??

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com Dacre

On that draftnet site – Earl Clark is projected at 14 but I think he’ll go quicker than that, Dejuan Blair got his self some body fat% right there…

  • Chris

Dacre, I also would love Hansborough on the Suns. A complete opposite of Stoudemire…and thats a good thing. Im hopin for Clark tho.

  • http://Nicekicks.com MeloMan22

i always thought that your vertical jump was of no steps. if your allowed to take a step i probably have a higher vert than alot of those dudes

  • wilz

apparently austin daye has no hops..

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

demar has a 38 inch vert, same as budinger. Also, 5.9% bodyfat is a damn good number. Also a fast sprint time.

  • http://www.manutd.com/ Z

James Harden is a WAY better athlete than I thought. 37 in vert, same max vert reach as Blake Griffin, WHAT! Damn, he might be B-Roy 2.0. (someone that doesn’t look ultra athletic and that all of a sudden, his crotch is all over a big man face)

  • http://www.manutd.com/ Z

    Pause.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Harden reminds me of Eric Gordon in that they are both WAY underrated atheletes and better shooters than all the guys (in their draft class) who are considered to be more athletic than they are.

I’m sick of everyone saying its a “weak draft”. Its just not an obvious one, where the top 10-13 are all lined up and undeniably lottery-bound. This draft is crazy deep and I fully expect there to be bigtime contributions (Courtney Lee-style) from some late first rounders players who get drafted by playoff teams.

  • Tyrone Shoelaces

I love the fact that Stephen Curry out-bench pressed Earl Clark hahah.

  • henry

i could swear that gerald henderson has a higher vert? looks like he jumps of a trampoline. austin daye doesnt seem to wow in these stats, but look at durant, not exactly comparing them, but just sayin these stats are the end-all
