Rasheed to the Cavs?

by J. Gamble

My sources say that Rasheed Wallace and the Cavs are beginning talks on a two-year deal worth about $10 million per for the services of the former Piston. The move and negotiations were inspired by Dwight Howard’s dominant performance over Cleveland’s big men in the Eastern Conference Finals.  And Wallace will be brought in for that very purpose, to neutralize Dwight Howard next season and help the Cavs get over the hump.

This supports what we previously reported about what it will take for Sheed to come back next year.

If this signing falls through, I’m hearing that Cleveland may do a sign and trade with the Clippers for Zach Randolph, which certainly makes sense for the Clippers since they are taking Blake Griffin No. 1 overall.

    Sweet, First!!!

  • Franchise

If those were my two options, i’d take Sheed. Z-BO puts up pretty nice numbers but he’s a flight risk.

  • http://slamonline.com Ben Osborne

Interesting stuff, though they should’ve just traded for Shaq. Also, I think we have an Eboy imposter.

  • http://www.manutd.com/ Z

Mmm… Zach gives them the low post scorer that they’ve never had… but he’s Zach Randolph. A proven loser, good things rarely happen for a team when Randolph is involved. LBJ might tear his ACL just because of the messed up karma. / Sheed DOES seem to neutralize Dwight. I have no clue why, though. 10 mil per is outrageous though.

and the Lord said it was good.

  • Ken

We got Zach Randolph y’all! You think he’s going right…but he’s going LEFT!

  • Shaqtus

They should’ve just tried to get Shaq. Cleveland is dumb.

  • Great Balls O’Fire

Wallace is washed up. Too many miles. Howard would use the “People’s Elbow” with devastating results.

  • Great Balls O’Fire

    make that “Peoples’ Elbow”

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Man, I wanna keep rooting for Sheed. But, whoever pays him is gonna get burned.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Jeez. Sheed for 10 mill or Z-BO for nearly twice that? Way to shoot for the stars, Ferry. Is Cleveland TRYING to get rid of Bron?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Hmmm, $10 mil per and 2 years for Sheed or $14.7 per and 3 years for ZBo? Is there an option C?

  • http://slamonline.com B. Long

Wow. They might as well trade the Kang while they can still get something in return if this is the way Cleveland’s front office plans on operating.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Thanks for pointing that out, Big Ben. And if I’m the Cavs, I’d WAY prefer taking Sheed over Zaach any day….even at that price tag.

  • Eric

Crazy. You all are. Sheed is a big pain, but his ability to get inside Dwight’s head is not to be denied. Not to mention, compared to Z and Varejo, this is a major upgrade. Take it from a Magic fan, I HOPE this does not go through. You can get Randolph all you want, good player, but not the intimidator Sheed is. And 5 mil a year for Sheed is a very low price for a player of his production. Low post presence, outside threat, two needs for the price of one if you are Cleveland.

  • http://slamonline.com B. Long

If Cleveland thinks either one of these guys are even part of the soultion to their problems they’re in big, big trouble.

  • niQ

this looks good. it’s as if they’re bringing the pistons back together into cleveland. Ben wallace will meet sheed again! (unless of course, they both retire)

  • http://www.manutd.com/ Z

not 5 eric, 10 per… I know Sheed is bada$$ but he really looked like someone that was punching in at the shop on the court this year.

  • http://www.manutd.com/ Z

Guys like STAT and CB4 are letting it be known that they’d welcome a change of scenery. JKidd has lobbied to play with LBJ. Turk is an unrestricted FA this summer. The cap is not that important to the Cavs. They will spend to keep Bron.

  • neaorin

10 million per is way too much for the Sheed of 2009. And Ferry basically had Zach Randolph offered to him on a silver platter by the Knicks and he wouldn’t take him. To do that move now would reek as desperation, which is not good news.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

In terms of current roster spots for the Cavs, Sheed is a absolute stepup in talent from Wallace and Sideshow. That can’t be debated. The money and Sheed’s willingness to play big (no pun intended) would be the only questions.

  • http://none J

Cavs can’t pay Sheed 10 mil per. They are OVER the cap. They can offer him around 5 per (MLE) but thats it. I am guessing this is a 2yr/10mil(total- 5mil per) deal

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

niQ: The Wallaces reuniting is impossible if Ben doesn’t retire, because he will make 14 mil next season if he stays.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

just what they need. Another old power forward. What, does Danny Ferry only sign players he played against? START A YOUTH MOVEMENT AND SURROUND BRON WITH 5-7 YEAR VETS, Dumba$$

  • knock knock

Rasheed has the ability to stop dwight. Just cause he knows how.

  • Shaun

is ya’ll dumb? 2 years 10 million equals 5 million per year u idiots

  • http://slamonlin.com tina

    LOL @ Betcat’s comment

  • Aaron

^ obviously your reading comprehension skills aren’t up to par. It clearly says, “…the Cavs are beginning talks on a two-year deal worth about $10 million PER for the services of the former Piston.” So it looks like you’re the “dumb idiot.”

  • money

i just hope they dont wanna get z-bo to guard dwight. that would be the craziest thing ever. i think cleveland might be able to beat the magic next year without changing their whole team. its not like they lost the ecf and aint a contender next year. most of their players are young and gettin better. theeir loss to the magic was about match up problems at the 4. they could ve played bron at the 4 more to go up against lewis. howard killed them tho,but their are cheaper players in the L they got a body to contain dwight more. i like sheed, but his best days are over. maybe playin with sheed would give ben his passion back.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

“Dumb idiot”? The flames on this site are TERRIBLE when i am not involved. Whats next? YALL ARE ALL POOPY PANTS

  • Shaun

Dude trust me the cavs are not offering 10 million per. i live in ohio and follow the cavs very very very very closely. they wont even have 10 mil to offer. the guy who wrote this is a idiot and so are his sources if they said 10 mill per. their gonna offer him the mle

  • TWANA

If the cavs get Z-bo instead of sheed I’ll be pissed. Sheed is probably one of the only big man that has a perimeter offense and can score in the post when he wants, sure he has a bad mouth but thats nothin to worry bout for the cavs.

  • Marco

if sheed goes to the cleveland james it’s over, we can assign already the ’10 championship

  • http://mindyourbusiness@nosybutt.com Allenp

Man, they should just wait for Bosh.

  • Shaun

i mean seriously if the cavs had 10 mil to spend dont ya think they’d go after ariza or odom or somebody good? all we have is our mle

  • dekko

    >>My sources say that Rasheed Wallace and the Cavs are beginning talks on a two-year deal worth about $10 million per for the services of the former Piston.<<

Seems unlikely. They can not talk to “Sheed or any other free agent or their agents until July 1st. I doubt they would risk the penalties.

  • wilz

thats gonna be a turrrible team. old and egotistic

  • JoeMaMa

ZBo? For what, 3 Point shooting?
Get Kaman. Laugh if you will, but when he’s healthy, I see him as a missing piece. Great boards, good moves, active big man. And you know the Clips will give him up for little.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Zach > Kaman. Thanks for playing, dumb@ss.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Sheed is the man. He’d fit great with Cleveland.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Paying an extra $5million for Sheed and being over the cap would be neautralized pretty quick if the Cavs manage to get the ring, becuase of all the exra $$ that would rake in anyways. It’s worth a shot.

  • Rnz

I dont think sheed can stop Howard though?…He will provide better offense down low, rebounds, and defending players that are his size (Garnett,Gasol)..but for defending Howard?..I dunno man, long shot at best

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

people are getting edgy here lately.

  • http://slamonline.com B. Long

Rasheed Wallace hasn’t posted up or played defense since 2006.

  • dennis

i love all you idiots that are askin ferry – “is that the best you can do?” i mean , the league isn’t built around the cavs getting the best players and teams bending over…i think he has done pretty well considering the past few years…

sheed though…tough to go from hating this guy to cheering for him…guess will just have to see what happens

  • Ricky

This is stupid, its not like the Cavs won’t sign Sheed for 10 mil a season, but that its IMPOSSIBLE for them to do so! They are over the cap, even if Big Ben retires and doesn’t take a buyout. You can’t just sign people not already on your team if you are over the cap. You also can’t talk to players or their agents that you want to sign until July 1, for goodness sakes, the finals just started. And this is a basketball website where basketball fans post comments, you are all dumb. Sheed would fit great because he can shoot and for some reason plays good D on Howard, but he would have to fit great at the MLE, which I’m assuming people here know what that is. Also, a sign and trade for Randolph? That implies that someone who is a free agent is signing a deal with a team in order to be immediately traded to another team…but Randolph is already signed with LA for 3 more years, so it would be a regular trade…ummm ok nice basketball knowledge, either your sources suck or you are drunk

Kamen is 100x better than Zach, he isn’t a moron and he actually plays a little defense. Anyone who thinks Zach is good is on par with Isiah Thomas in basketball IQ

  • rob

why do a sheed signing to stop howard? doesnt this sound eerily familiar? eg; suns signing shaq to stop TD* THE SUNS NEVER STOPPED TD and they wont stop howard he is only gettin better. besides i doubt the magic will make it that far next year. the celtics barring injury are basically a lock to win the east. perkins is the best lowpost defender against howard and KG not sheed.

  • http://nbacheapseats.blogspot.com Chendaddy

Jesus Christ. Another epic fail by Danny Ferry. $10 mil a year for a guy turning 37?? Or even more for an overweight proven loser who never learned to pass or play defense??? Should we just start printing No. 23 Knicks jerseys now?

  • rikson

Isnt the mle limited to just one year?
