Report: Kevin McHale Out as T-Wolves Coach

by Marcel Mutoni

Officially, the folks in charge of the Minnesota Timberwolves organization are hemming and hawing when it comes to the future of Kevin McHale. However, one of their own players appears to have broken the news via everyone’s favorite social media platform.

According to Kevin Love and his Twitter feed, McHale is no longer the head coach in Minny:

Today is a sad day…Kevin McHale will NOT be back as head coach next season.

So, there you have it. After compiling a 24-58 record this past season, a year removed from an equally depressing 22-60 campaign, McHale is a goner.

I’m guessing that we’ll hear something from the team tomorrow morning.

I heard Hoiberg’s teddy bear had the job.

Will you look at that, a + 2 season!

  • Shu Posted: Jun.17 at 2:28 am
So I guess Bill Laimbeer is being considered for the job? And he did resign from the Shock head coach gig a few days ago. He deserves a chance to coach, no matter how bad his national rep used to be. He’s won championships as a player and a WNBA coach. He’s got to be worth at least a 2 year investment… And does McHale just retain his front office gig?

Man they gotta hire Eddie Jordan. Please Lord

  • Oli Posted: Jun.17 at 4:28 am
EJ is with the Sixers now, sorry Jb

  • Moose Posted: Jun.17 at 7:26 am
Bill Simmons…..yeah, we know you want the GM spot.

I’m shocked – McHale did such a wonderful job with the franchise for all those years (typed sarcastically).

  • Young C Posted: Jun.17 at 8:22 am
Its not like he tried to pay a role player $100 million under the table and cost them years of first round draft picks and trade away Brandon Roy and OJ Mayo or anything like that…

  • Young C Posted: Jun.17 at 8:29 am
Or fired Flip Saunders when he didn’t eserve it or fired Dwayne Casey when he didn’t deserve it…

  • Jack Posted: Jun.17 at 8:52 am
Anyone know what Brandon Jennings is on about when he’s saying how they “did K Love”?

Who was that former T-Wolves player who said McHale with his clipboard looked “like a little kid playing with his etch-a-sketch”? That probably sums up McHale’s coaching career.

  • M Cho Posted: Jun.17 at 9:45 am
Oh right, it was Anthony Carter. And the quote was: “”He didn’t really know all the X’s and O’s, but he had a good assistant coaching staff that was helping him out with a lot of plays. He kind of let us run whatever we wanted…He was trying to draw plays, and it was like a little Etch and Sketch. Like a kid just messing around. . . . He just gave the clipboard to the assistant coaches sometimes.”

    Who cares

  • Chendaddy Posted: Jun.17 at 10:55 am
The Wolves were actually much sorrier than 24-58 before McHale took over, but they went on a decent run and were the hottest team in January before Jefferson got injured. Still, aside from picking Kevin Garnett, this was a guy who made draft picks based on watching ESPN College Gameday. Please get his late 80′s nemesis Bill Lambieer in there!

    he sucked

  • TADOne Posted: Jun.17 at 11:08 am
Actually, Laimbeer couldn’t do a worse job.

  • blaze Posted: Jun.17 at 11:42 am
    bring back christian laettner!

  • Myles Brown Posted: Jun.17 at 11:46 am
See you in November Sam. And ill actually miss Kevin.

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.17 at 12:08 pm
Why doesn’t McHale just become Kevin Love’s personal coach? Teach him some of those up-and-unders!

  • nick Posted: Jun.17 at 1:17 pm
Mchale actually had the team playing well for a bit when he was coach before Al Jefferson’s knee exploded….don’t know if he could have done much better with that roster. But then, he did make the roster..so take that for what it’s worth.

  • Jacob J Posted: Jun.17 at 2:12 pm
If they hire Bill Laimbeer the timberwolves will eventually become a badass defensive team!

  • Jess....Raps_fan Posted: Jun.17 at 2:57 pm
    SMITCH!!!!

  • nate the great Posted: Jun.17 at 5:39 pm
    bring avery johnson.

  • chintao Posted: Jun.17 at 10:47 pm
It’s important to remember, that McHale is being fired for the same reason that Isiah was fired. Niether could win with the team he built. That represents a compound accumulation of failures.

  • chintao Posted: Jun.17 at 10:55 pm
    ^Nice punctuation and spelling, a$$hole….

  • Chris Posted: Jun.18 at 2:11 am
Boston Globe reporting that Amare is going to th L’Wolves for Al Jefferson and the #6….This is unbelievable. Dont know if its just speculation but they talk like its imminent but who knows now a days. Great deal for the Suns. Horrible for the l’wolves.
