Stephen Curry: Phoenix Bound?

The media in Phoenix sure seems to think so: “The Suns could have landed their man in Thursday night’s draft before their pick ever came up. Golden State’s selection of Davidson point guard Stephen Curry at No. 7 was likely made for the Suns as part of an Amaré Stoudemire trade that can’t be completed until Wednesday. That is because Phoenix would be acquiring Warriors center Andris Biedrins, a base-year compensation player, as part of a Stoudemire deal that would include more Warriors players, possibly power forward Brandan Wright and/or shooting guard Marco Belinelli.”

I’d be stoked to have him. We really have no backup to Nash now.

  • Ken

I mean, I don’t want to lose Amare, but if we have to, then at least we get a backup point guard. I also think that if we lose Amare, then Nash’s chances of staying go way down, so it’s a smart investment for the future…assuming we lose Amare.

    He doesn’t count.

This move is good for GState because it will open up some salary flexibility once Amare’s contract is up. Biedrins is a very good rebounder, but he’s in the first year of a fairly large deal. Wright is a pretty damn good throw in, but he’s basically just a worse version of Anthony Randolph (who’s gonna erupt this season) Bellinelli is a guy I would’ve loved the Spurs to pick up.

I find it hilarious that everyone is assuming that Curry is a pg whilst questioning the ability to play the point of a guy like Jennings. Curry played point one year for a sh!tty team in a sh!tty conf. Ladies and gents, here comes Jannero Pargo! Or Eddie House, whichever really. Not a fan.

I’m sad my Suns are getting torn apart by inept management. Getting Curry and some young guys are at least a bit of a consolotation – atleast they are getting something in return, as opposed to the Shaq deal. I think I’ll have to write a blog lamenting the collapse of my team.

I’d rather not lose all that for a rental of Eyeball Stoudamire. Hope we can keep Curry out of the picture here.

sucks for curry. Phx is fked for years to come

  • niQ

Why aren’t the Knicks offering some sort of trade to interfere with this? i thought thought they wanted Curry more than anything. And how is David Lee going to play with Hill? unless one of them agrees to play Center

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ niQ: Beats the heck out of me. The Knicks should have drafted Brandon Jennings if they wanted Curry first… I have a feeling Donnie’s going to shop Lee now that we have Hill. Why does the Knicks management suck so much?

That Ray Ratto(yes the shadiest name of all sportswriters when it has rat in it) SFGate article linked on the Shaq season preview piece says Amare will have to be given $95 mil as soon as he’s traded, by way of reupping him 5 years at $15 mil. That saves GSW no money. Amare plays no defense, Biedrins is dope and a steal at his salary while being the perfect – unselfish rebounding & block C in the Nellie system. No. Stop it Cohan. Amare makes nobody better. (Adonal > Amare, see youtube vs.) Baron made everyone better and you didn’t want to pay for him and now think this will work in a revisionist history? See you in 10 more years playoffs.

Having Hill and Lee is not a problem. Remember, d’antoni is the coach. Boris Diaw played center for him.

  • Jason

This is best for the Suns. I think a lot of the Suns roster isn’t very happy with Amare, particulary Nash. Amare doesn’t play defense and is notorious for being a pain in the ass. Not to mention, the one year the Suns played what was arguably their best basketball, Amare was out with an injury. Believe me, we won’t miss him as much as most people think.

Dragic is totally good. dude is still kinda timid tho….overall tho i cant belive this has happened.ive never seen a team that was so high up drop so low.its sad

  • Jaytee

nellie wont give up curry, he’s raw! he has unlimited range, and the type of game the warriors play is 3s and up-tempo. if i were the warriors, i will give up cj. watson, and a draft pick, a. biedrins, b. wright, and beninelli. perfect trade for amare and/or an extra bench player. because, monta and jack are capable point guards, and now that warriors have acie law, he is a potential back up for curry, and bring back texas a&m days.

  • Waylonakolipse

If the GWS doesn’t get Amare they are retarded and I will boycott the 2010 season. Fck Curry, we don’t need another scoring guard type. We need a big man that can bank on fools. We already have a talented young shooter in Marrow. The Warriors were more successful with Turiaf starting and when you combine Amare with Randolph and Turiaf you have the best shotblocking frontcourt in the NBA. Amare is still a beast and worth 15 million….face it Warrior fans we will not get Bron, Wade, or Bosh.

  • Steve

Nash will get moved also, bank it. He is in his 30′s and won’t be playing when these kids are contenders. Trade him and Amare and aim to be Portland part 2 … i.e. suck for a few seasons but let the team grow together and start seeing results 3 years from now. Good fan base in Phoenix so they have the chance to do this. Can’t do it everywhere, e.g. try it in Milwaukee and the team dies I think … crowd is too fickle.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Dear Donnie Walsh,
Please trade Jordan Hill or someone else and get the Knicks a FREAKING GUARD. Try Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings, or Johnny Flynn. Even Wayne Ellington would be awesome right now.
PS: You should have drafted Brandon Jennings. Stop letting D’Antoni make stupid picks for you.

Teddy, you haven’t gotten the memo? The Knicks are leaving the NBA to play in the Euroleague. Look out Olympiakos!

  • jangles

Suns are already blowing up the team. I don’t think Amare commands enough respect to be the Suns helm. Get a really good young point guard like Curry, then go after some size. I’m a big Steve Nash fan, but he’s gotta go.
