Rasheed’s Coming to Boston

Do these old cars have enough left in the tank?

by Ryne Nelson

There’s a helluva lot Rasheed Wallace and Kevin Garnett have in common. They went No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, in the ’95 NBA Draft. Their intensity can drive them out of this planet when they’re on the court. They equally dangerous with their back to the basket as they are squaring from 17 feet.

They already have one championship ring. And they want some more. The Boston Globe reports that, for the first time in their careers, Rasheed and KG will be working for the same franchise:

An NBA source said tonight that Detroit free agent forward Rasheed Wallace has committed to sign with the Celtics on July 8 when free agents are able to sign. Wallace is expected to get a two-year deal using the mid-level exception (expected to be about $5.6 million to $5.8 million).

As if dealing with KG’s on-court antics wasn’t enough, the Celtics have their hands full with easily the L’s move effusive tandem. Maybe the Cs should redouble their efforts to sign the ever-levelheaded Grant Hill, who may have met with Doc Rivers today. No word yet on how this affects the Celtics’ stance toward Big Baby.

Forget the fact that the Boston will have an average age of 45.67, the Green is still capable of bringing out the cars for at least one more inspired title run next season.

Wow, my two favorite forwards from the past- KG with Minny and Sheed with Detroit- joining forces in beantown. I guess I will be watching the Celtics this year!

Tis move keeps the Celts back up in the top 3 in the East and now they are possible contenders for a second ring, but their age is catching up with them(i never thought i’d say that, being a Spurs fan)

@ Z: Sheed was never an elite PF? Are you kidding?

Hope they can stay healthy cuz if not, that little grey spot on sheed’s head will quickly take over his entire dome.

#1 How many fans really KNOW the sport? Listen, Powe is not going to be a Celtic, Ainge has pretty much said that they appreciated his contributions but with his injury they need his roster spot. It’s business. #2 While Sheed is doing pregame dances KG will be abusing the goal post. I’m amped for this season! #3 Baby may stay for less money if the other teams offering don’t have a chance at a chip. #4 It never fails that a fan trashes a player once they are no longer on their team. Yeah, it was Sheed who let the Pistons down and not the organization w/ their trades..come on people! #5 I never read that we talked to Ariza or Artest. #6 Did I mention that Powe is NOT coming back?!

Sheed was never “elite” but he always had the same talent as the elite players. He was never as consistently good as Garnett or Duncan or Webber, but he could be as good as them on any given night, and matched up well with both of them.
Sheed’s drop off is partially a matter of declining physical abilities, but it’s moreso about him not caring.
Sure, he can’t jump like he used to, but he still has that great touch on the block and his lateral quickness has only declined slightly. His physical dropoff is about equal to Tim Duncan’s and Duncan can still be effective.

dealing with kg’s on court antics? u mean how he is the most intense player in the leauge, and how because of that and how hard he works he got the whole team to commit to defense and they won a chip. i think they dont mind dealing with his on court antics
