Rudy Gay is Bigger, Wants to Play in ASG

Gay hopes that a bigger, stronger build will help land him a spot on the All-Star team: “Gay carries, by his estimation, about 15 pounds of added muscle. He’ll tell you his level of focus is immeasurable behind a strong showing during USA Basketball’s July minicamp. His desire to elevate the Grizzlies is off the charts with training camp less than a month away and three consecutive losing seasons in the rearview mirror. ‘I want to be an All-Star. Everything I do now is trying to help me get to that point,’ Gay said. ‘If I’m at the top of my game and recognized as an All-Star, it’ll mean we’re winning.”‘

Well he said he has been training.Might see him doing something big.

    • LeoneL Posted: Aug.31 at 10:46 am
Go for it! And tell OJ to pass you the ball once in a while.

    • Sesa Posted: Aug.31 at 10:51 am
How about training your jump shots?

    • ciroqobama Posted: Aug.31 at 11:05 am
      MUSCLEWATCH! Where’s lang…

    • niQ Posted: Aug.31 at 11:20 am
You know, it’s kind of hard to shine when you’re team has OJ Mayo and Zach Randolph, both players who look to score everytime the ball is in their hands. And that Iverson fellow might stroll into town. So unless the team suddenly leads their division in wins….

    • tavoris Posted: Aug.31 at 11:50 am
LeoneL, he needs to start passing the ball as well, too…

    • Kevin Wilson Posted: Aug.31 at 11:54 am
Every player always seems to build exactly 15 pounds of extra muscle. Are NBA players universal in their workouts, or are they lying? Hmmmmm….

    • onions baby onions Posted: Aug.31 at 12:50 pm
      Yeah where is Lang?
Anyone have any pics of the 15 pounds of muscle?

    • Mr.stoney Posted: Aug.31 at 2:01 pm
Rudy huxtable has a better chance of getting on the all star team out west. can you say kobe, cp3,d-will ,brandon roy,and those are just some of the guards i havent even mentioned the forwards he would have to leapfrog………unless of course the grizz end up wit the best record in the west by january then maybe…………..lol! let me stop . rudy just demand a trade to greece

    • ab_40 Posted: Aug.31 at 2:07 pm
nice hope to see good and big things out of rudy gay this year. the nique to KD’s jordan?

    • BossTerry Posted: Aug.31 at 2:24 pm
He seems to get better and better every season which is good for a young player….

    • knock Posted: Aug.31 at 2:46 pm
we wont be talkin about this again before the season is over. One of the worst d-fensive players in the L, is Rudy gay. Work on your basketball skills, son.

    • la huey Posted: Aug.31 at 2:53 pm
Rudy needs to add some skill points to his awareness rating. Like niq and stoney mentioned, his teammates and the elite level of all-stars at his position won’t make it even make it a possibility

    • Jacob J Posted: Aug.31 at 7:09 pm
In his dreams. There are way better players that deserve an all-star game appearance.

    • jdubbs29 Posted: Aug.31 at 7:10 pm
The least marketable player in the NBA. I mean, who’s going to wear his jersey?

    • BossTerry Posted: Aug.31 at 7:53 pm
damn, im not even a grizz fan and I see a lot of “Gay-bashing”… I like dudes game, I think hes one of the better SFs in the game…. Hes no Lebron or P.Pierce, but I could see potential all-star..

    • Brad Long Posted: Aug.31 at 8:31 pm
Ummm, Rudy Gay is a better player than P-Double right now. Maybe not in his prime, but right now he is. And Rudy said this same thing when I interviewed him eariler this summer. Dude is on a mission.

    • Anton Posted: Aug.31 at 10:12 pm
Gay got bigger? Is he taking the same Pen!s Enhancement Pills as Rashard?

    • tavoris Posted: Aug.31 at 10:51 pm
Brad…really? better than Pierce? I still have him on par with a healthy Loul Deng, Josh Howard, and Gerald Wallace in the SF hierarchy right now…He’s nowhere near the passer or team defender Pierce is right now(and nowhere near as efficient a scorer). I’d even go so far to say that his ceiling isn’t as high as Pierce’s best seasons.

    • BossTerry Posted: Aug.31 at 11:15 pm
I think Pierce and Gay are about equal right now, difference is Gay is reaching his prime and Paul is slowing..

    • tealish Posted: Sep.1 at 2:26 am
B Long: Better than Pierce? Don’t think so man… Would I rather have him on my team than P-double? Factoring in age, looking into the future — definitely. But for this upcoming season, I don’t think Gay’s passed him just yet. Clutchness matters too and they’re miles apart in that department.

    • Seven Duece Posted: Sep.1 at 3:19 am
Sorry Rudy is like 2 years from Paul’s CURRENT level of production. Sway each other and see what happens. Rudy’s only significant contribution is scoring. He can’t pass, D or board with any consistency. Maybe next year, but P-Double was in Kansas with the kind of diversified game G-22 is still trying learn.

    • Seven Duece Posted: Sep.1 at 3:19 am
      sway = swap

    • rabn21 Posted: Sep.1 at 8:06 am
Its next to impossible to add 15 pounds of pure lean muscle over an offseason.

      “jdubbs29 Posted: Aug.31 at 7:10 pm

mayne, like what they talkin’ bout in dime… imagine rudy traded to the t-wolves for the ricky rubio rights… :P that’s where you’d see a classi team-up of kevin love and rudy gay… GAY-LOVE would over shadow stockton-to-malone… hahahaha! one reason for john amaechi to come out of retirement like he did outta of the closet…
      wahahahahahaha!!!!!

    • BossTerry Posted: Sep.1 at 1:14 pm

    • BossTerry Posted: Sep.1 at 1:39 pm
A few years ago at the start of the season, Portland’s 2 pgs were- Jack and Dickau… I always thought there was a joke in there, somewhere..

    • Anton Posted: Sep.2 at 1:20 am

    • Chris Ujma Posted: Sep.2 at 4:32 am
Bill Simmons, the Sports Guy, came up with the Gay/Love era thing.
Sorry to be so anal about the details.
