So, D-Wade Bought a Home in Chicago

by Marcel Mutoni

It’s not uncommon for sports stars to own multiple residences, in various cities across the country. In this day and age, however, every little move (and transaction) is scrutinized and mined endlessly for meaning or clues.

Welcome to Dwyane Wade’s life.

Wade recently purchased a luxury townhouse in Chicago, the city where he was born, leading some media members to wonder aloud if this is a hint about Dwyane’s free agent intentions next summer. Here’s the immortal Sam Smith on the case:

Has Dwyane Wade purchased his Chicago dream house as a prelude to signing a free agent contract with the Bulls next summer? Or is Wade just a clever real estate speculator at a good time? Prying eyes want to know. And at least basketball franchises in Chicago and Miami.

You never can say never with NBA players since Wade should be earning at least $17 million a season once he signs an extension or leaves as a free agent. So then what’s a little $1.4 million second (or third) home? The list price was $1.7 million. But this certainly is something to give one—or many—pause of given Wade’s fairly open questioning of Miami’s rebuilding plan and recent disappointment despite Wade’s obvious lobbying to steal Lamar Odom away from the Lakers.

Of course, what’s largely glossed over in the linked piece is that Miami is the team that can offer D-Wade the most money once he becomes a free agent, something I’m inclined to think will play a not-so minor role in his decision.

I hope LeBron buys a mansion in Utah next week, just to screw with everyone’s heads.

“Wade recently purchased a luxury townhouse in Chicago, the city where he was born”.
There you go. End of story.
    …Sensationalist media…
That last line by Marcel was pretty good though.

    Anything to get published.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

    Yeh Bryan.

  • http://www.hoopsmanifesto.blogspot.com Jeff Fox

That’s all $1.4 million gets you in Chicago?!

  • http://www.mynameinblue.blogspot.com Hisham

Does Lebron wish he was born in Utah?

  • ab_40

so he works out all summer in chicago and it’s crazy for him to have his own place so he doesn’t have to stay with his fam or in a hotel there when he’s there. I don’t get it.

and the difference in supporting cast of chicago and miami isn’t that big. it’s about michel beasley for miami… last I checked the only thing in his game that grew is an afro on his head… you’ll see

Wade celebrated by jumping on his kitchen table and screaming: “This is my house!”

    Double Meh.

That last line cracked me up. If I were LeBron, I’d do it too. I mean, how much would a small home in Provo cost? For Lebron, that’d be like any of us buying a PS3 or something.

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

I think the words “sensationalist media” gets thrown around too often here.

  • http://www.mynameinblue.blogspot.com Hisham

man i had to save 6 months for my PS3.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

I want a PS3 for the game Red Dead Redemption. Oh wait, this is a basketball site. Sorry folks.

  • http://www.mynameinblue.blogspot.com Hisham

Jukai: check out the Jeremy Tyler thread, I responded to a comment you directed at me. sorry it’s a bit late

  • 6marjon

what a crock. sam smith is just tryna make headlines.
wade spends most of his offseason in chicago anyway and it would be a mistake for him to play there anyway.
him and d-rose have a similar perimeter game and miami are on their way up anyway it may take a season or two that’s all

  • jk_light

I laughed out loud at Anton’s comment. That was pretty funny. And after he screamed, “this is my house”, he starred the door down.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

I think he’s going to retire when his contract is up so he bought a house in his hometown.

  • http://slamonline.com Adam Fleischer

D Wade and D Rose on the same squad would be incredible to watch.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

    Print that chicago tribune.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

I think they play too much alike.

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

Hisham: It’s too late, I’m not going back. You should have constantly stalked out this place night and day waiting for my reply to respond immediately.

  • Izzo

I bought a can of Red Bull at my local supermarket today, leading the papers to report rumours of a takeover attempt.

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

Rose and Wade play too much alike because their role is both to dominate the ball. If you don’t think Rose and Wade can alter their games and play together and be that much better, you got some things to think over.

  • Randy Brown

Uri Geller bought an island off of the coast of Scotland. Uri Geller was friends with Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson died. Magic Johnson gave a speech at Michael Jackson’s funeral. With Kobe Bryant. Could Kobe Bryant be relocating to Scotland some time soon?

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Does it always have to be like that jukai, it can never be just ” I disagree” its always gotta be ‘if you don’t see it my way then (insert supposedly witty one liner insinuating stupidity). That’s why everyone thinks you’re an assh*le. And if not everyone its absolutely the reason that I think you’re an assh*le.

  • Wdavid

Sam Smith is the biggest hack in the game.

  • http://slamonline.com Jacob J

Dude just leave the guys alone SLAM. I guess you have nothing better to do. He just bought the home in Chicago for the off-season.Rasheed Wallace when he played for the pistons had a house in rochester hill,mi but had a home in philly for the off-season so whats the big deal?

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

Bryan: You’re wrong that I’m an a*shole, very wrong dude. If you don’t believe that, you really need to do your research before you write anything ever again.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

    Ok that was funny.

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

It’s just the way I debate Bryan, it’s a bad habit, I blame my Jewish upbringing. I’ll try and knock that clown sh*t off when talking with you, since you do give a lot of people the benefit of the doubt.
Even if yer wrong and all.

  • Tommy Patron

Sam Smith has ALWAYS sucked. I was VERY disappointed when the Bulls announced he would be writing “exclusively” on bulls.com. Lousy.

  • Orlando Green

    PS3…lol..you mean a pack of gum…

  • Chicagorilla

Jordan owns a home in Park City, UT……maybe Lebron will buy a house in UT…a bigger one than MJ’s!

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Jordan also has a house in Beaverton Or. (nike h.q.) Probabaly has 10 other homes somewhere..

  • Josh D

This is ridiculous you’re not aloud to buy a house in your hometown anymore without people speculating

  • http://gmail dirty frank

I bought a house once. My ex wife lives there.

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

What would be better is if Lebron ALSO bought a home in Chicago, haha

  • http://gmail dirty frank

Wade and Lebron could move in together and refuse to ever shake hands.

  • AdrianC513

I though Bron and Kobe already had a house together?

  • http://dubaiinvestmentnow.com Graham

This is pretty much a complete non story if I ever saw one.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    haha@ dirty

  • http://drexlerwasabeast.com nbk

as long as its not a story like……”Dwayne Wade impregnates Star Jones.” or “Dwayne Wade turns home in miami into a brothel” its whatever. I bet every star player owns some kind of shelter outside of their teams city.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

aww this is no big deal at all. I could probably buy the whole damm city of Detroit for the amount Dwayne spent on this house though….

  • http://slamonline octomom

I think this is a non story.

  • Enigmatic

Jukai, I have to respectfully disagree, bro. I don’t think Rose dominates the ball at all. If anything, most of us Bulls fans wish he would. It ain’t like we’re talking about a D. Wade/Ben Gordon backcourt. Rose is a true PG. If Rose and Wade played together, Wade would get his 25+ per game, Rose would average at least 8 assists per, and both would do it with a smile on their faces. Well, maybe not Rose, but he’d be happy on the inside. Of course, I said I’m a Bulls fan, which means I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS believe Wade will play for the Chi. There’s a better chance Ron Mercer will come out of retirement just so we can throw cash at him that was meant for some superstar/savior YET AGAIN.

  • matt (the other jazz fan)

i live in utah and am currently looking for a college room-mate…bron bron?

  • Derrick

Wade as been in the league for a while now and he has had money for a while now. But all of a sudden he is buying a home in Chicago. what? he couldn’t afford a “townhouse” before. i’m not saying he is for sure coming to chicago but……..idk.
