White Chocolate to the Big Apple?

by Ben Osborne

The Ramon Sessions rumors haven’t gone anywhere. The Allen Iverson one makes sense to me (really, Knicks, bring in the Answer for a season! Sell some tickets, score some points, and maintain your 2010 cap number…). But before the Knicks sign either of those guys, they’re first exploring bringing in another player who might sell a few tickets: Jason “White Chocolate” Williams.

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com has the details:

The Knicks are focusing on Jason Williams and have been granted an exclusive, five-day window to negotiate a deal with the unretired point guard, Yahoo! Sports reported. Williams, 33, must navigate a minefield of beaurocracy after filing retirement papers last September, only a month after signing a one-year deal with the Clippers. L.A. relinquished its exclusive rights to negotiate with Williams last week. Any team wanting to acquire those rights would have to claim Williams off waivers first.

I’m not sure what the original Whit Eboy has left in the tank, but, like with AI, it’s fun to imagine him playing for Mike D’Antoni.

JWill was not the only PG the Clips set free in the last few days. Mike Taylor, he of 35-points-at-the-Garden fame, has been waived. I presume the Knicks will speak with him, too.

behind the back…OFF THE ELBOW passes…come on.
Yeah I want this kid in an NBA uniform, with the D’Antoni system in place, could this be the first PG to come out of retirement and average 13 and 10?

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Yeah … “those days”. Whiteboy is the man but … come on!! Ramon is a way betetr fit. He is not going to do anything. Please stay retired.

  • nakware howard

Eboy was the don back in the day imagine if he was able to be let loose and do his thing under the mike d’antoni system. he might not be a superstar but he could definitely make some highlights and help the knicks. the boy was NICE! FREE JASON WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m lovin this for the Knicks. I may actually find myself cheering for them.

  • Quail

if the clips had him last year, they would have been at least a little better IMO.

  • Danny W UK

He comes back, I’d buy a freakin Knicks Jersey…..

  • Ken

I like Whit as much as anybody, but do people really expect him to come back and be the player he was in Sacramento? The last few years Whit was in the league, he didn’t do much. As a GM I’d much prefer to have Sessions. Dude is younger and a better passer (20/20 game anybody?).

Jason Williams was a rare talent in the late 90s and early 00s. His passes, cross-overs and alley-oops are still jaw dropping. His cross-over into a one handed (left) spinning pass against the Pacers is still redic. I don’t expect him to be that guy anymore, but I’d pay to go to a game and hope to see one of those plays.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

If homeboy could play 12-15 minutes a game and just control tempo and knock down some J’s, he’d be worth the look……………for a playoff team looking for a veteran backup, not the waste of franchise in NYC.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

I love the guy … but he is not anything like he use to be.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

    Co-sign Eboy.

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

Ken: Sessions also wants a contract that the Knicks don’t want to give.

    The NBA needs J-Will…showtime, baby!

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Jason Williams corpse is still better than chris duhon.

This is the only kind of news NY Knicks fans will have this season. It’s not going to be a fun season.
At least you MIGHT have the summer of 2010 to keep your hopes up.
No trade pieces on the Knicks for sign and trades next summer, unless they keep David Lee.

  • Tenorca

…and somehow, a couple years later, I finally understand Eboy’s name. This pleases tenorca.

  • http://slamonline AlBundy

J-Will sell some tickets, not make team any better. Even though he has a ring, I wouldnt call him a winner, but fun to watch.

  • Coast

Is there really that little to do in NY that J-Will on the 20-win knicks will sell more tickets? Sessions would be better but still.
What’s going to happen if LeBron + Superstar#2 don’t come to NY?

  • Josh D

Is it me, or does the nickname White Chocolate seem a little racist?

  • Tenorca

    It’s just you.
Or, at least, it isn’t me.

  • http://twitter.com/TH3_R3AL_CHRIS Young Chris MP3

Celtics need him. Why have they not tried to sign him for the bi-annual and force a sign and trade for Marquis Daniels?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I just read that the J-Will signing or negotiations have no impact on the Sessions deal. The Knicks are going after Sessions regardless. That’s good to hear. J-Will is basically a back-up in case Nate Rob leaves.

  • Orlando Woolridge

I can’t understand why the Clippers would release Taylor, he always played well with the few minutes he would get. Whoever signs him is going to get a quality guard.

  • Clipp Show 714

Eboy is a punk quitter. You don’t sign a contract then change your mind on playing. So now he put the bong down and wants to play again?

  • Clipp Show 714

@Orlando. I did’t like the clipps letting go of Taylor but he didn’t fit into the new plans. Was fun to watch but he did turn the ball over too much, wasn’t a good defender, and had no jumpshot. Clipps signed Bassy as a true back up.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

a thought upon seeing this headline after spliff session: what if you took a big apple and put it in white chocolate. it would be like chocolate covered raisins, but an apple. and white chocolate, like the pretzels, but an apple. yea

  • Clipp Show 714

@ Tarzan..That must be some good ish.

  • chintao

I agree with Bryan. In fact, I could see the Knicks putting a team of cadavers on the court in order to “save cap space for 2010″. Even as a Knick fan, I will have to laugh if the Knicks still can’t pull anyone in that biggest of years. Somebody please force Dolan to sell.

  • hannibal

White Chocolate to Darko for the Alley OOp….Nobody goes wild… empty msg this season…pricks

  • T-KO

Tinsley, Jason Williams…who´s next? Rick Brunson?

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

i say mike taylor and a.i.

  • tomtom

wtf how come the knicks are so focused on a new pg duhon is a great floor leader and averaged about 10ppg n 8apg last season, + he’s only gunna get better! his assist to turnover ratio is impressive which cant be said for AI or White Chocolate. give the guy some respect and dont just do ‘the knick thing’ and sign the biggest names u can with no regard for chemistry and defined contribution.

  • JerseyBoy

    Duhon is trash thats why

  • via

Duhon is not trash, I’m glad someone besides me appreciates what he brings!

  • VA

who cares wat dey do this year. They just gearin up for 2010.

  • Yesse

Isnt Jason Williams already too old?He doesnt ring my bells anymore.I dont mean that in the gay way, lol.

  • http://luxurycondosnow.com Graham

I don’t think the Knicks have a game plan for this off season. It’s why they’re shuffling around all randomly and not making a decision anywhere.

  • http://slamonline.com MiguelKG5

I think that the Knicks shoudnt sign him because in 2010 they will have plenty of guys in the market.

  • http://slam nyjoe

Graham and Miguelkg5 are right on the money. The Knicks haven’t been able to make a decent decision in almost 10 years, why stop now. It’s been embarrassing being a Knick fan for some time now. Donnie, bring LBJ to the garden next year.
