To the IR Goes Nicolas Batum

The scrawny forward will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. It’s the same injury DWade and Jameer Nelson suffered: “Nicolas Batum, who was expected to be the Trail Blazers starting small forward in Tuesday’s season opener, instead will have surgery on his right shoulder. The team announced this morning that Batum has a torn labrum and the surgery will be Friday. No immediate announcement was made about Batum’s replacement in the starting lineup, but Martell Webster, who was the starter before missing last season with an injured foot, is the most obvious possibility.”

They at least have enough depth to not be affected that much by this. Tough break though, my brother had the same thing to deal with (he’s an athlete as well), a long rehab awaits. Should be 100% when back though, at least it’s not his knees

    Travis Outlaw!

The Blazers probably benefit from this injury, as Machiavellian as that sounds. More time for Rudy, Martell, and maybe even some more for Bayless.
Get well soon, Nic, but don’t be surprised if the team tells you to take as long as you need!

he should practice shooting with one hand

    Outlaw? How about Martell Webster?

  • ab_40

Martell Webster is gonna start so they don’t mess with that explosive second unit. I like oden a lot more with andre miller on the court but oden is starting and miller is nog. and that’s a damn shame. Evenwithout him they’re still 9 or 10 deep no worries but they’ll miss his D he’s a pesky defender

I hope he’s okay but they won’t miss him at all. They have too many guys with not enough separation between them. Batum = Webster = Outlaw, with slight variations.

Pretty much expected that at SLAM the black hip/hop ball player is the only one considered or reviewed.

Batum out, more time for Outlaw, Webster? How about the guy who will replace him in the starting lineup Rudy Fernandez? Or did they cut him all of the sudden and I didn’t know about it.

just an utter joke and why no one respects SLAM for more than just some hip hop wanna be basketball dreamland fantasy “hype” magazine.

Thundercat32:I thought Rudy was more of a 2 guard? Maybe their just considering that the other guys actually play the same position?

And apparently somebody important respects SLAM because they get a vote on who gets the MVP so yeah…but that’s probably because of that black/hip hop Commisioner Stern.

    nice one BRAD

What makes Outlaw/Webster so hip hop? Also, did Batum need a wheelchair when he got injured?

In the Blazer’s first game, Webster had the highest +/- on the team.

Not that Darko Milicic did lead the Knick in +/- in their opening game, so there is that.
