Does Monta Ellis Want Out Too?

He wasn’t happy with his partner S-Jax’s trade, and Monta may now also be looking for his own exit path: “Multiple NBA sources have confirmed that Monta Ellis’ status with the Warriors could be determined Thursday, when his agent is scheduled to meet with team management in Oakland. Several sources indicate that Ellis’ agent, Jeff Fried, already has discussed the possibility of the Warrriors giving Fried and Ellis permission to talk to other teams to quicken the pace of trade talks. The Thursday meeting could formalize those general discussions. One source said that Fried tacitly has been given the go-ahead to try to come up with a trade, but that team president Robert Rowell may not yet have officially signed off on it.”

Monta Ellis isn’t getting traded without a contract renegotiation. 11 million a year, folks! Monta is a great talent (my fantasy team can tell you that) but that’s franchise money and I don’t know what team can afford to take him without giving up, well, everything!

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.18 at 9:39 am
Actually, Eddy Curry and Jordan Hill would work (hint hint, Knicks)

  • dirty frank Posted: Nov.18 at 9:57 am
Franchise money for a player who doesn’t want the franchise responsibility: “I’m not (going to) put no more on my back. Somebody else gonna have to step up. I’m not gonna do more, somebody else gonna have to step up and take on the role that Jack had and be that player. But I’m not putting no more extra on my back.” Do you feel a need to be more vocal? “Nope. Uh, uh. Not at all” What do you guys lose with Jack gone? “No. 1, besides his scoring and the ability to make the extra pass. What we’ve been emphasizing the whole time is defense. That’s one of our best defenders on the team. And we’re trying to get better as a defensive team. And now, who we got now that’s going to play defense? We got me. And who else?”

  • Wayno Posted: Nov.18 at 10:05 am
Trade him to the wolves, I hear they need point gaurds…

  • niQ Posted: Nov.18 at 10:25 am
Wayno, I guess just came from the Bosh thread, I guess sarcasm is today’s game of the day.

  • Clark Posted: Nov.18 at 10:26 am
    I actually like Jukai’s idea.

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.18 at 10:27 am
what is this, the make a wish foundation? you get paid 11 MILLION for about 6 Months of basketball, you dolt. Deal with it.
@dirty frank: if those were real quotes from his interview 2 days ago then WOW. what a moped crashing, self centered DB.

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.18 at 10:41 am
So Monta, Azubuike wasn’t busting his ass on defense before he went down, eh? (strange he’s one of the top 40 shotblockers so far this season…what with him being a guard and all). Ronny Turiaf sure is known for his impossibly varied offensive game and not for, i don’t know, his hustle on D. Being a top 12 steals guy does not say the whole story about your “D”, Monta. Could it be you gamble a lot on passing lanes and get beat more often than you get your hand on the ball? hmm… (seriously any player who praises his D on a Don Nelson coached team needs a reality check anyway)

  • Stargazey Posted: Nov.18 at 11:00 am
Knicks should honestly sell everything except Gallinari and Douglas to get him.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.18 at 11:55 am
The Knicks would be wise to look into this instead of banking all of those expiring deals they have on some 2010 pipe dream. Monta Ellis would be able to run the uptempo offense D’Antoni prefers. The could either give up Eddy Curry or Al Harrington’s expiring deal. Both work.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.18 at 12:11 pm
trade him to the Bobcats for Stephen Jackson…

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.18 at 12:11 pm
Tad: I uhm… don’t think Harrington is going to go back to the Warriors anytime soon.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.18 at 12:36 pm
Ahhh yes, wasn’t even thinking about that.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.18 at 12:39 pm
With that said, a 3-way trade that would work:
    Knicks get Monta
Pistons get Al Harrington or Eddy Curry
    Warriors get Rip
Now, I know the Warriors don’t need another shooting guard, but it is better getting something other than an expiring deal IF Monta insists on being dealt.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.18 at 12:43 pm
TAD: You’d want Harrington or Curry over Rip? Do you want it for the expirings’ or do you think they have value?

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.18 at 1:03 pm
Expiring deals. They could have value but it remains to be seen for Curry. I’m just speculating that with the emergence of Bynum off the bench and they way BG has came in and basically shown that he can carry a scoring role with the team, I see Rip as being expendable. I’m sure Dumars could find something to do with that $11 mil on the FA market.

  • Tim Posted: Nov.18 at 1:09 pm
I don’t know if you guys read this, but it sounds like Ellis tried to be a leader and make it work, but Nellie is such a bad coach that Ellis can’t take it anymore. http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2009/11/17/elliswarriors-situation-set-to-hit-full-boil-at-thursday-meeting-trade-inevitable/

  • Z Posted: Nov.18 at 1:20 pm
Get the whole story straight, guys. Monta was very vocal after a blowout loss last week and Don Nelso basically came in the locker room and told him to shut the eff up. He was practically in tears when media rolled around. That’s why later on that week in NY he shouted: ”that’s exactly why I won’t do it.” / The Warriors also told Monta and S-Jax this summer that they were going to trade the 7th pick for a veteran player because they already had enough young guys and that Monta would run the point. Then they draft a rookie point guard. This organization is a joke.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.18 at 1:38 pm
TadOne, Nelson doesn’t like shooting guards that take less than EIGHT threes a game. Plus, Rip would hate having to play center and power forward in that system.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 2:05 pm
The Knicks gave Jamal Crawford away for Al’s soon-to-be-expiring contract, I can’t see them taking on five years of Monta.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.18 at 2:10 pm
Probably not Russ, but I just see the 2010 pipedream for the Knicks going up in flames if none of the big 3 take the money and run to NYC. Walsh should look at adding 1 impact player thru a trade before the deadline for one of the Knicks expiring deals. They only have like 8 or 9 of them.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.18 at 2:11 pm
nobody really wants to play in NY unless it’s a contract year.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 2:12 pm
It might very well go up in flames, but at the same time I don’t see a Monta/Wade backcourt working. If you’re gonna add via trade, go big and target Chris Paul.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 2:13 pm
Don’t get me wrong, I like Monta, but not at $11m per. Not in the world of the shrinking salary cap.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.18 at 2:15 pm
Fair enough, but do honestly think Paul could be had?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 2:16 pm
Yes. If not this year, soon. Too bad the Knicks don’t have their 2010 pick, because that would have been a heck of a chip.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.18 at 2:17 pm
I think the Hornets are quietly looking at trade possibilities.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 2:19 pm
I absolutely believe he can be had. Too bad the Knicks don’t have that 2010 first-rounder to offer as part of a package.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 2:21 pm
Basically, I don’t think the Hornets have the resources or the inclination to surround Paul with the pieces to win a title. It’s gonna be KG in Minnesota all over again.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.18 at 2:28 pm
If that happens then the Hornets may as well get the moving vans in place and setup their GPS for a one-way trip to Seattle.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 2:36 pm
Not necessarily. I just think that Chris Paul in Nawlins has an awful lot of parallels to Kevin Garnett in ‘Sota.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.18 at 2:59 pm
back to Ellis, I still think they should trade him to Charlotte for Jax…and keep trading them back and forth when they complain.

  • Zee! Posted: Nov.18 at 3:28 pm
It was all good a few years ago…..

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 4:56 pm
Someone on the Warriors must have noticed that they were moving forward with a capped-out core of Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson, Andris Biedrins and Corey Maggette. That and TNT will get you to the playoffs.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.18 at 5:38 pm
Monta Ellis makes just $2m per year less than Lamar and Ron-Ron combined.

  • tmw Posted: Nov.18 at 5:46 pm
so another undeserving player gets to dictate his future and disrupt the team. no wonder GS sucks. since when is monta ellis a superstar?

  • Allenp Posted: Nov.18 at 5:51 pm
What do you have to accomplish to dictate your future?
Money really does make people crazy. Their own money and other people’s money.

  • davidR Posted: Nov.18 at 6:00 pm
russ, good point. but then again, the warriors HAD to offer monta that much money to keep monta, because unlike ronron and lamar, the warriors aren’t a contender and don’t have that championship leverage

  • Hursty Posted: Nov.18 at 6:01 pm
    2009-10 Statistics
    PPG 19.7
    RPG 4.80
    APG 5.3

Are they really that different from Brandon Roy (last year), who is how old, earning how much more?

  • gswarrior Posted: Nov.18 at 6:18 pm
the hell with him if he wants to leave!
i say trade them all, that makes room for GS to gun for a franchise player in the dope free agent market next year

  • 360vue Posted: Nov.18 at 7:12 pm
monta is a good undersized guard, but i dont really think he has aright to throw a strop, especially with that silly contract they gave him…but when you’re coached by nellie i could only imagine the mental impact that his retardation must have on you. instead of all the players jumping ship the franchise should push nellie towards the plank.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.18 at 8:21 pm
LOL @ tavoris. That would be hilarious! Trade Ellis for SJax just to keep Jackson in Golden State.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.18 at 8:22 pm
If the Knicks don’t sign Iverson, they should be trying to bring Monta Ellis in at the Shooting Guard spot.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.18 at 8:23 pm
But WAIT, Donnie and Mike don’t want to spend any money because Dwayne Wade and LeBron James and Amare Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer and Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson are all going to come to New York.

  • shawn williams Posted: Nov.18 at 10:27 pm
get rid of don nelson instead!

  • J Posted: Nov.19 at 12:23 am
the knicks want to get everyone! as far as i don’t want iverson to be in new york. i think it would be great to see monta with a knicks uniform. he’s definitely an upgrade over duhon, nate and his kryptonates combined.

  • L_Playah Posted: Nov.19 at 12:42 am
I like what Wayno said earlier. The TWolves would be a nice fit. I’m just tired of Corey Brewer trying to shoot the ball. Twitter me

  • GoNets 0-12 yaaa Posted: Nov.19 at 6:32 am
Monta Ellis and Ronny Turiaf for Willie Green and Samuel Dalembert of the Philadelphia 76ers

  • GoNets Posted: Nov.19 at 6:46 am
Monta Ellis and Ronny Turiaf for Willie Green and Samuel Dalembert of the 76ers I think this would work for both teams. This gives Stephen Curry more playing time for improvements, and the GSW need a true center at the moment since Biedrins is out and also another scorer since Raja will probably be out for the season going through surgery soon for his wrist. And for the 76ers they need another fast quick pg who attacks the paint and it will also help Lou Williams out, plus 2 quick back courts running with Iggy, T Young, and Speights when his healthy and have Brand for resting time would be great for fast break points.

  • Dacre Posted: Nov.19 at 8:59 am
Monta should just take a 4-6 million buy-out…(if possible) and go join a team looking for a decent pg (76ers, NJ could use him?!). Actually would a Monta Ellis – Elton Brand trade work?

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.19 at 9:36 am
Hursty…Ellis puts up similar numbers to Roy is a MUCH FREER SYSTEM. He’s a fun player to watch, but the disparity between the two is NOT EVEN CLOSE. Roy as a rookie>Ellis at any point in his current or future career.

  • TDP Posted: Nov.19 at 9:40 am
Broussard says Anthony Randolph is also unhappy with inconsistent minutes… Monta Ellis and Anthony Randolph for Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.19 at 3:04 pm
If they trade Ellis, then who’s gonna play Center on this team?

  • tmw554 Posted: Nov.19 at 3:50 pm
yeah hes a future hall of famer. he gets paid no matter what

  • Simmy Sosa Posted: Nov.19 at 7:24 pm
Shawn is right. Nelson is the problem.

  • J Posted: Nov.19 at 11:52 pm
it started with baron.. and now all the way to even someone here saying that even Anthony Randolph is unhappy. I’m starting to think that Nelson is the problem.. you know he’s a great coach.. let’s see.
