Does Rondo Have Confidence in Jumper?

It’s coming along slowly. And it’s not like he’s left with much of a choice when it comes to shooting it, especially at crunch time: “While he admitted earlier this week that he’ll always be a pass-first player, Rondo didn’t pass up the opportunity to shoot another crunch-time jumper in Wednesday’s 113-110 triumph over the 76ers … ‘Usually shots like that do give a player confidence, said Paul Pierce. ‘I remember my first game-winner that I made, back when I was in my first or second year in the league, I just felt like I could do it all the time in the game. It gave me a lot of confidence in those situations. So hopefully it could do the same for Rondo.”‘

This is a bit misleading, he had no choice but to fire that as the shot clock was expiring. Goof for him it went in, though.

Rondo is a pass first point guard? I think he’s a slash first, pass second, shoot third point guard. Although he truly does try to be that pure point the Celtics need.

Juks: He is absolutely a true pg. Yes, he drives a lot but it is to dish first, score second. He will ALWAYs give it up to an open teammate off the bounce.

Sigh, this defeat was all the Truth’s fault. He is easily in the right up there at the top of the MVP discussion so far this season, which I’m glad for as he seems heavily underrated by too many. Oh and I doubt Rondo will ever have a jumper, he just doesn’t lack confidence, remember that sweeeet half court shot he took a few years back, that wasn’t his shooting ability just confidence and a bit of fortune

Oh and I love how Boston kept fouling Philly in the end when they were up 3. Brilliant. I would foul anybody in the league in that situation except Kobe, Wade and Pierce. They shoot at the basket EVERY TIME they get fouled even if it’s a blocking foul beyond the 3-point line. BTW, I don’t think you should be able to lean in a defender to draw a foul on a jumper. That should be a no-call.

I hate when Rondo goes to the hole, has the easy lay-up, but then kicks it out to the three-point line. I swear I wish the Celtics would have traded this kid.

Celtics will be a force to be wreckoned with come playoff time. Hope they win it all, this team deserves it

lol @ the real chris. very true about that tendency, but they definitely shouldnt have traded him although I think they overpaid him when you think of who is paid similar money. Nevertheless, he’s definitely one the best PGs defensively, and he’s constantly improving in that respect, plus solid D is the Cs main tactic, and his O isn’t exactly weak either; solid passer, good vision, strong FG%

Chris and Vue….I was at that game last night, and Rondo did not show up until the 4th. it was possibly the worst 3 quarters of basketball i’ve ever seen him play..he kept passing up wide open shots, going to the hoop and jumping in the air to pass when he had an open layup or could have gotten fouled. His free throw percentage is very poor and while I thought he was one of the best defensive pg’s in the league, I realized that he is not. He reaches for everything and plays under the screen, giving his man plenty of room to shoot. While he has long arms, alot of the reason he gets his share of rebs is because he roams off his man and cherrypicks. And this is coming from a huge Celtics fan. Then the fourth quarter comes last night and I’m watching a completely different player. He needs a kick in the behind so he can start playing consistant basketball….

I think he could shoot if he really wanted to, but he’s better when he’s driving to the basket. That shot he made at the end of the game he had to take because time was winding down. I wasn’t too sure it was going in, but it did thankfully. Good for him, hope it gives him confidence.

I just hope the kid is working really hard at it, because if he is putting up tons of jumpers and improves that part of his game, he is one of the best PG’s in the league. Even if he could become reliable from 19 feet or so, he would be such a threat.

  • GasX

I thought he was a FOUL FIRST (if flagrant better) pass second… I know R.R. is a great PG I’ll give him that, but he is quite dirty.
And still the league looks over all that stuff. I wonder if it would be the same if he played for another team like the Clippers.

  • Jer Boi

i hope he doesn’t have confidence in his jumper. or else he’ll just be shooting bricks all day.

  • tavoris

good for Rondo..bad for every other team in the East

  • SHANGHAI

Good for his jumper. Too bad he can’t hit a free throw.

  • DJR

Rondo is one of the best young PG’s in the L. Him and Derrick Rose are incredible young players right now. If Rondo ever got a nice shot like Bibby, he would be ridiculously good.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

His confident with pushing Kirk Hinrich and running away.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

He can’t hit a jumpshot, still. He’s the worst free throw shooter in the league, too. There is nobody worse from the charity stripe than Rajon. NOBODY.

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

Wow Moose. I was going to make a comment regarding Shaq or Ben Wallace, but no, it’s true, Rondo is shooting worse than both of them at 33% FT%. WOW.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

He´ll have a confident jumpshot THE DAY HE COULD MAKE A FREEBIE! HE MISSED 11 IN A ROW THIS SEASON ALLREADY…OUCH!

  • BostonBaller

We WILL hand it to Rondo in crunch time in a game 7 against anyone…because he will make the right decision on whether to blow by his defender or drive and kick to one of our shooters. It’s just that simple and will get more so as the season goes along.

  • ClydeSays

Rondo’s got an ugly jumper for sure, but you can’t make shots unless you take shots.

His reluctance to shoot open j’s when he’s left open and everyone else is covered has to change. If he can start hitting the open elbow jumper, the the defense will be forced to cover him or live with that shot.

  • BostonBaller

Someone please name the PG’s around the L that you would HONESTLY rather have than Rondo running your team. No particular order is needed. I get the impression that a lot of people think that Rondo is a terrible PG and wouldn’t start for more than 4 or 5 teams. If you look at some PG’s who have good numbers in assists and points and you put them on the Celtics team their scoring numbers would go down b/c of the weapons. Would that make them less players? I’m a bit confused. Please, will a true student of the game educate me.
