Sixers, Iverson Meeting in Dallas

Though the Philadelphia 76ers are considering numerous players to fill in for an injured Lou Williams, they’re only meeting with one such player this afternoon: Allen Iverson.  According to a source, Iverson is meeting with Sixers president Ed Stefanski today in Dallas. The 76ers have also mentioned Jerry Stackhouse and Antonio Daniels as players they’re looking into signing while Williams is sidelined. Stay tuned.

Pretty much a done deal – AI will be signing in the next day or so. Stack and Daniels etc, don’t make as much sense or bring as much to the table.

  • pistol Posted: Nov.30 at 4:45 pm
Come on AI! Please come back…..do the right thing Philly!

  • Michael Scorn Posted: Nov.30 at 4:47 pm
But Iverson just retired from basketball a week ago. I guess he is a liar. Really, what was the point of announcing your retirement in the first place?

  • Jas Posted: Nov.30 at 4:55 pm
Talk about bringing back memories: They should sign Iverson and Stackhouse.

  • str8 from samoa Posted: Nov.30 at 5:02 pm

  • Yesse Posted: Nov.30 at 5:29 pm
    If he’s starting it’s a deal.

  • Wendallt Posted: Nov.30 at 5:31 pm
    Come on home A.I.

  • Prophecy_projectz Posted: Nov.30 at 5:37 pm
    This gone be interesting

  • 360vue Posted: Nov.30 at 5:44 pm
@Joey E. Jordan ain’t got no weight in this, its an opinion and that’s it. It depends how much it’s respected. Comcast have given management complete control over all off court affairs, so if the top like it, it will happen (hence the moronic Elton Brand contract, armchair commentators decision. Stefanski doesn’t like AI much however after the way he forced his exit to Denver but he didn’t have much inside knowledge on that so it is reversible. AI is probably game as well so I can’t see what the stumbling blocks are, I would probably bet a hefty sum on it being a done deal by end of the week. Management are literally gagging for someone like AI, all that other FA talk is complete smoke and mirrors

  • Exile Posted: Nov.30 at 6:16 pm
…lost all interest in this saga.

  • LA Huey Posted: Nov.30 at 6:24 pm
@Jukai. 4 spot in the east? Am I missing the sarcasm?

  • MoNiQuE Posted: Nov.30 at 6:31 pm
    we’ll c

  • RoG23 Posted: Nov.30 at 6:49 pm
I guess he doesn’t care about winning a ring. He just wants playing time. Sad.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.30 at 6:54 pm
LA: I don’t believe that the Hawks are for real and Miami sucks. So, is the fourth seed that believable?

  • ripped Posted: Nov.30 at 7:06 pm
@Jukai: I’d put money on Toronto, Chicago, or Charlotte before the Sixers. Eddie Jordan is an idiot. Plus, you saw what D-Wade did last season, so the Heat don’t necessarily suck esp. with B-Easy improving. Anyway, it’s kind of stupid and selfish how he uses his “retirement” to get him a job.

  • Bee Posted: Nov.30 at 7:27 pm
I might have to un-retire my Sixers #3 jersey!

  • The Philosopher Posted: Nov.30 at 7:42 pm
The Sixers must really feel sorry for Allen Iverson

  • gomez Posted: Nov.30 at 7:56 pm
It’ll be really frustrating if the Sixer’s pass on him..

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.30 at 7:59 pm
The Hawks are for real and the Heat are pretty noob, so fifth spot seems more reasonable.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.30 at 7:59 pm
How about the freaking Knicks sign Iverson, because Duhon is shooting 24% from the field?!

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.30 at 8:00 pm
I have to admit, it will be sweet seeing him back in Philly.

  • Dacre Posted: Nov.30 at 8:25 pm
Teddy – D’Antoni is int he midst of a ‘chris duhon love in’ of mythic proportions, but AI to 76ers (hopefully getting 30 mins a game and starting) could be something real sweet to see.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.30 at 8:33 pm
@360vue…u don’t think Eddie Jordan has any say in this? Did you not see how Curry and Hollins handled having to coach Iverson?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.30 at 8:36 pm
    Jerry Stackhouse? Whoa.

  • Papou Posted: Nov.30 at 8:37 pm
THIS IS ME CROSSING MY FINGERS!

  • Kieran Posted: Nov.30 at 8:39 pm
I would love to see this alley oop connection happen again! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94J_oSwggFI&feature=PlayList&p=3E2B2F3966CD94F6&index=176

  • Jsbc Posted: Nov.30 at 8:41 pm
PLEASE GOD MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!! A’M ALSO CROSSING MY FINGERS ON THIS! AI fan from Guatemala

  • Pardeep Posted: Nov.30 at 8:48 pm
please make this happened. PLEASE Sixers dont blow it. But i think its to late to make the playoffs for Philly anyone agree or disagree?

  • Holiday Posted: Nov.30 at 8:58 pm
What’s the point, they aren’t in any position to make a run at the championship! Does he need money? Houston would be a way better fit at this point, I mean a defensive monster of a team with a pure scorer!!! But for the fan following it would be beneficial for the 76ers!

  • Holiday Posted: Nov.30 at 9:02 pm
If he could become a pass first point guard he could be a real asset with his scoring ability, but he has to make the offense flow! He obviously can’t score at will anymore!

  • 360vue Posted: Nov.30 at 9:28 pm
@tavoris EJ is able to have his say, but my point was if mgmt like it and EJ doesn’t he has no weight over them unless they really respect his opinion. Comcast specifically stated all decisions lie ultimately in the hands of the GM and his team and the coach can be quickly vetoed. EJ is just another mouth amongst many, although it may have more weight. However, as a fan, the way this teams talent is being handled by EJ (slack work ethic, wholly absent D, some woeful patterns etc) I cannot see how they’re going to let him have an real bearing on what action they’re going to take on trying to resolve the mess he is responsible for. It’s cynical, but most management often have an entirely different perspective on what is good for the team (or their business). Forget Curry and Hollins, look at Dumars and Heisley.

  • JE Posted: Nov.30 at 10:06 pm
Pardeep: Are you serious? We’re in the first month of the season. Hell, it’s not too late for the Nets to make the playoffs.

  • Tim Posted: Nov.30 at 10:09 pm
I really hope he returns to Philly it would be special for A.I and philadelphia to have him back even for a season so he can retire the right way

  • AndrewS Posted: Nov.30 at 11:29 pm
i think Eddie Jordan will be fine with it because he just so hates playin rooks. Even with Lou out, he is so reluctant to give Jrue any playin time. I’m a big wizards fan so trust me, i know this from experience. He would prefer A.I. just because he’s a veteran.

  • Hangtime Hec Posted: Nov.30 at 11:32 pm
Like seriously Pardeep. Were two months into the season……

  • Jess Posted: Nov.30 at 11:37 pm
AI back in Philly…I LOVE it- hope it happens – this cant be the last we see of The Answer.

  • thalilbigkahuna Posted: Dec.1 at 12:58 am
AI and AI together again. Oh SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII…

  • Anton Posted: Dec.1 at 1:34 am
So this is like negative jersey sales…everyone bust out your Sixers Iverson jersey!

  • Pardeep Posted: Dec.1 at 1:51 am
Still aint convinced they can make it but there is no place like home and I would rather see Iverson have a bad season and Philly then retire because that way he would still be loved by the fans and there is too much respect and love in that city for him there is no way I see AI coming off the bench in Philly especially with those rowdy fans and if coach Jordan does put him on the bench when Lou Williams returns I guarantee you the fans will do something about it. Still isn’t a done deal but I hope it happens.

  • nate the great Posted: Dec.1 at 3:13 am
i think any team under .500 would be dumb not to sign iverson. why didnt the nets, bobcats, knicks etc. jump on iverson when they had a chance?
if you want your bang for your buck than iverson is the best person. he is getting signed for MLE.
to be honest the nets could go harris, a.i., CDR, boone, and lopez. i mean you still wont win very many games, but if i was a GM i would sign Allen. You’d deffinitly sell more tickets, and jerseys. its a win for both sides.

  • rikson Posted: Dec.1 at 3:13 am
How long is williams injured?! It better be the whole season or trouble is coming to philly mighty fast….

  • Wu Posted: Dec.1 at 4:14 am
The Answer and the Illa Illa!

  • FoCo Posted: Dec.1 at 4:47 am
    full circle for the Warrior…

  • rikson Posted: Dec.1 at 6:19 am
I dont think this is going to work! First: Iverson is NOT a PG. Although most on here seem to believe that, but he is a 2 by all means -> and so is Iggy! Yes, you can play Iguadala at the 3 but that would be a waste of talent as he is just undersized for todays forwards. Also, dont forget, that Iggy was just starting his career when AI was still there, now Iggy demands WAY more shots than back then. Hell, he is basically the face of this franchise although he is not a franchise player. Mark my words, people!

  • Scu11y Posted: Dec.1 at 7:37 am
Iverson jumped from the 1 to the 2 and back again over his philly career. he’d play the 1 to start. not ur prototypical 1, but will do a better job there than a lot of players

  • nastierthanu Posted: Dec.1 at 7:40 am
    Cosign rickson

  • Darksaber Posted: Dec.1 at 7:45 am
Wow, Mr. “i did it my way & my way only” is gonna get yet another chance? This saga should be turned into a sitcom. Apart from that, would be wonderful to see him in those new Sixers Unis, he is the modern day 76er, more than Barkley, Hornacek, Stackhouse, Hawkins, Dana or anyone on that team in the late 90′s. (still don’t like this pouting/blaming/lying/bickering strategy he’s using lately. Unnecessary)

  • Shem Posted: Dec.1 at 8:09 am
Phili wouldn’t be a four spot team i’d give them 6 but this would be great, starting role and he’d be dropping 20+ like the old days. I’d LOVE to see him end his career like this

  • 360vue Posted: Dec.1 at 8:36 am
@rikson naaah. you’re misinformed on your last post. firstly, EJ doesn’t want a 1 in his system, someone like AI (or Lou Williams, or Arneas prior) is what he views as perfect for his system so if AI at 1 is going to work anywhere, its probably here where the coach is so open to such an unusual concept of a 1. Secondly, Iggy doesn’t demand shots, he’s too willing to step up and try and deliver, there is a difference; he doesn’t expect the ball at the end of most good plays, however he does expect the ball when the clock is down to a few seconds or we need a basket. He seems himself, and rightly, as the on court leader, and leaders lead by example. He’s willing to take the difficult shots, the shots where if they don’t fall he gets the blame. Also, Iggy’s athleticism does greatly compensate for his lack of size against most SFs and he isn’t a true enough shooter to belong at the 2. Although having Thad Young on the court for most of the game is essential so that ties up the 3. Personally, I’d stick Kapono at 2, get him to take half dozen treys a game and then take him out for Williams/Iggy/Young combo whilst the last 2 share the 3, with Iggy starting.

  • 360vue Posted: Dec.1 at 8:38 am
Bos/Orl/Atl/Cle in that order is my prediction for the 4. Then Det, Cha (i think they’re gonna have their breakout year, Phi, Tor and Mia vie for the last 4, with the last 4 being completely open till last couple of games. The top 4 have it on lockdown already personally even if it is early

  • [...] to ESPN, however, talks between A.I. and his former team went really well yesterday in Dallas, and the Sixers could have Iverson back in uniform next week against the [...]

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.1 at 10:13 am
@360vue, true, but after being burned twice, the coach’s position is probably weighing heavily in this.
@rikson-take a breath. It’s most likely gonna happen, so just get ready to bash dude after every game.

  • rikson Posted: Dec.1 at 10:38 am
@360 You gotta be joking right? Iggy doesnt demand shots?! Did you see the sixers play?! Phillys offense consists mainly of one-on-one moves frim Iggy followed by a VERY difficult J… (Not to mention that they have Brand under the basket and should play way more inside-out)! So youd leave Young on the bench to start Iverson???

  • rikson Posted: Dec.1 at 10:38 am
    @travoris: passive-aggresive is usually a girls thing… just sayin!

  • rikson Posted: Dec.1 at 10:39 am
Oh and BTW: Iguadala on the 3 reduces his game to defense -> still a good player though, but not really efficient!

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.1 at 10:51 am
@rikson, ur the only kat in here talkin “it’s not gonna work…he’s not a PG” and it reeks of hateration. Guess what, neither is Lou Williams or Gilbert Arenas. True PG’s are the ones that struggle in Eddie Jordan’s offense, as it requires them to change their mindset. Get a grip.

  • 360vue Posted: Dec.1 at 11:10 am
@rikson Noooo I have never seen the sixers play. Please, don’t use inconsistent examples for you’re deductions on a player, individual games result in anamolies. I’m talking over the last 100 games where he has been the leader of the team, most of those game you haven’t seen and I have, enough said really. Last season AI took on average just over thirteen or so shots a game, my goodness! WHAT A LOT! He is the go to guy, not the this is my shot guy. There is a difference but you can’t grasp that. This season its probably nearer 15 because the rest of the starters are acting like they have no confidence when the tough gets going. For a team with no bonafide scorer that really is nothing out of the ordinary. AI is going to be a relief for Iggy not a hinderance as you were suggesting

  • 360vue Posted: Dec.1 at 11:11 am
First use of AI implies Iggy

  • 360vue Posted: Dec.1 at 11:16 am
Oh and no need for the passive aggressive comment on tavoris, was that an attempt to sound clever or just a rudimentary form of diss?! That statement alone makes it quite clear you ain’t got no clue on psychological sociology so give that angle a rest

  • rikson Posted: Dec.1 at 11:57 am
@360vue: Geez, how old are you???? “most of those game you haven’t seen and I have, ” -> This is enough for me to never talk to you again, buddy! Debating like a preschooler…

  • rikson Posted: Dec.1 at 12:01 pm
How would read that comment? He is basically telling me that Im hating, and thats just not true! He didnt even ask me!!! This was just a lame try to annoy me, Im not wondering that you didnt get that though. BTW “hating” has to be the lamest gangsta-sh1t to ever reach the surface of a civilized society and is only used by school-kids, who a) want to sound cool or b) are afraid to debate. Im not interested which one of those is travoris reason to post stiuff like that, as both are really lame!

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.1 at 12:28 pm
why would I ask you, when you’re in this thread IN RECORD TIME to say “it’s not gonna work, he’s not a PG”.

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.1 at 12:32 pm
one more thing…people who reek of negativity are the lame ones. If you hadn’t realized, the 76′ers enjoyed there most successful stretch since Dr. J retired with AI at the helm. “It’s not gonna work” actually has NO BASIS IN FACT, since it…um…did.

  • 360vue Posted: Dec.1 at 2:00 pm
@rikson Well, you aren’t a sixers fan, that much is clear. We aren’t in the media spotlight, so we get the standard amount of nationalised games. Your statement on AI is some way off the mark backs up my thoughts that you probably haven’t seen many games. Although it could be considered preschoolish, and I do apologise if any offense was caused. But how isn’t it justifiable for me to say I have seen way more games than you? It isn’t meant as an insult, just trying to express that I have seen more of the dude than you and you’re not hitting the mark with your assessment of Iggy’s play

  • rikson Posted: Dec.2 at 12:00 pm
@360 I have the league pass… geeez! But your logic is just hilarious – I smell a career in crimefighting.. @travoris: You could have ask me for my reasons to have such an opinion, instead of just claiming my statement to be “hatin”! Because “hatin” is a killer-phrase, that will just “kill” any chance of a debate. And if you dont want to debate, why tf are you on here???

  • rikson Posted: Dec.2 at 12:03 pm
@travoris: If you compare the 6ers from 2000 to the team they have today, you disqualify YOURSELF from every conversation… If you are serious and didnt write that because you realized that you have no arguments, its just a lack of basketball-knowledge IMO!
