LeBron James Critical of Mike Brown

Big Z was all set to play in his 724th game as a Cleveland Cavalier on Saturday night (this would’ve been a new club record), but his coach sat him out. And LeBron was none too pleased: “I definitely thought he should’ve played,’ James said Monday. ‘I’m not trying to stir up anything with coach or whatever is going on with the organization, but sometimes one game is the smaller things. What was on the line was something way bigger than us playing the Mavericks. That was Z breaking the record.”‘

I don’t understand the problem – doesn’t he still get the record next game?

Thanx Brian, close the comment section, please.

Unless Mike never plays him again. Maybe he’s under orders from the current record holder…

  • http://slamonline.com NUPE

Bron just wanted big Z to break the record at home where he would have had an applause etc, instead of on the road where nobody would make a big deal over it. I agree that MB ‘should’ have played Z, even if just for a few minutes because milestones are always better and more full of feeling when achieved at home. Yes, Z will get the record, just won’t ‘feel’ as special.

So let’s just make it clear Lebron, invdividual stats are more important than team wins? Especially since Z’s in good health, and will most likely break the record sooner or later? Whether you want it to “stir up anything” Lebron, your comment doesn’t sound like sticking up for your teammate. It sounds like a lack of commitment to putting W’s on the board.

Once again, ‘Lebron shows that he needs better PR coaching from his agent, and if he is receiving that, then he’s probably got too big a head to listen to it. All his stoking the flames of 2010, and now this comment shows that he’s still a kid. The richest kid in the world, but still a kid.

  • MooButter

You people are incredible. If Lebron even get’s mentioned, you know the haters are coming out. Get your facts straight. Lebron was questioned about it, he responded. He stuck up for his teammate and friend who he knows is to reserved to say anything about it himself. Z had a lot of friends and family in the crowd flown in to witness the accomplishment. He is as faithful a professional athlete as you will find in todays day and age, and he deserved to set that milestone at home. Brown should have started him, burned a timeout and let him come off to the applause he deserved.

  • Yesse

I agree with LeBron.I also have to comment on the Shaq situation.Mike hasnt done anything to improve Cavs and Shaq situation.

  • LA Huey

    I <3 haters.

zee’s post is… unbelievable. i’m still struggling to make the leap between what LeBron said and lack of “commitment to winning” that it means… anyway, does Mike Brown just not get it? even when he makes “smart” coaching decisions (playing a small line-up), c’mon man, you gotta know that one of your boys is on the verge of something special – give him his chance to shine.
they are at home again next time. expect Z to be given a token run-out to get a huge standing ovation. but it’ll all seem fake and phoney, and that’s on Mike Brown.

I am sorry, well I’m not, you can respect LBJ’s game by all means, infact worship it, it is worthy. But you cannot deny he is not one the biggest morons/douches to have entered the NBA. Although, Mike Brown is an idiot, what he said is completelty farcical, get a grip Bron!

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

Mike Brown is an bag of douche. Z’s family was all there to celebrate with him and what does Brown do? He basically shat on Z and expects him to be cool with it.

  • NigerianLaker

This dude is really starting to irritate me:
Z breaking a record that he could very well do the next game bigger than Cleveland playing the Mavs with thousands of fans watching…?
Isn’t the coach the one responsible for making the best decisions for the team?
Shouldn’t LeBron just shut it sometimes?

  • http://www.sixers.com 360vue

@niQ I didn’t know Z’s family was there, ouch! They come from Lithuania? But still, LBJ shouldn’t go running his mouth in public, I know he is a special player and he is right in this case, but that doesn’t excuse it. Still, Brown has no nutsack so I doubt he’s going to be reprimanded

  • http://none The Philosopher

If Z is upset, Lebron has his back. A lot of guys don’t even care either way. Besides, Lebron is the king, so whatever he says….if Lebron stays, Mike Brown is out of there. He already opened the can of worms.

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

360vue: weren’t you one of those guys defending AI for running his mouth? Because if you were, it’s time to get the hell out of here, bro.

  • a_whiteman

Just a thought for ppl thinking lebron is putting stats over wins. Wouldn’t cleveland be a better team with Z in the lineup????

  • http://myspace.com/rsaenz24 RoG23

I’ve always said, you know you’re good when you got a lot of haters

  • Saku 39

Any criticism of “Coach” Brown is deserved.

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/nba/overdribbling/index276.html chiqo

coaching isn’t just about wins and losses. it’s about handling egos and situations like this. should he have trotted a regular rotation player out there for at least 15 seconds? yes. should it be a big deal that he didn’t? probably not. i think this kind of speaks to the larger issue that maybe lebron might start coming out against the other stuff brown does that sucks. and when that happens, grimace will be out of a job.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

    LeBron’s right.

  • burnt_chicken

if any Raptors had CB4′s back like Bron’s got Z’s,
Pierce would still be in traction, truth.

that’s team building, not coach killing.

  • http://www.sixers.com 360vue

@Jukai I don’t think its right for any professional, especially in media-heavy fields, to run their mouth. It can and probably will create a sh!tstorm out of nothing. I’m positive I didn’t defend AI for running his mouth, although I was one of those vehemently defending him from people who couldn’t form their own opinion unless it was spoon-fed to them by the media. Which when you consider that the old mediums of media are in perilous state of decline, where they are more concerned with trying to turn a profit and staying relevant than substance or fact, is a truly foolhardy policy when forming an opinion on any matter. Particularly, when it comes gathering an opinion on such a character as different as AI. Some people had logical and justifiable beef with AI and that’s fine, that is their opinion, but when it’s painstakingly clear some are ‘opinions’ voiced purely from morons, in my view that needs countering.

  • http://www.sixers.com 360vue

Look, Lebron is right about criticising Brown. That’s an wholly inconsiderate act by the coach, like LBJ said he could have given him starting spot and then subbed him after 30 secs before a tempo even exists. But Z himself ain’t said jack publicly and that’s way to handle it. Be a man. Even the Cleveland paper clearly states “He (Z) is much too good of a teammate to complain publicly.” Criticise to Brown to his face, vent your concerns, show your support for your friend. But you do NOT go the media to do that, it’s like shouting at someone whilst standing behind a larger, stronger friend. LBJ says “for me, I speak the truth” but it’s clear from what he says he hadn’t communicated with anyone above about the issue but he will openly expresss it to the media?! As if LBJ doesn’t have enough weight with the Cavs without getting the media. Where is the point in what he has done? If he’s going to start venting to get Brown sacked, which needs to be done, then there is a point and it can be justifiable, but as it stands this was a needless exercise.

  • J-City

The only coaching Mike Brown does is give the ball to Lebron and enjoy your COTY award. You should of seen him last year during the Orlando series when Bron was basically going ISO every possession during the 4th quarter against the Magic, Brown was acting like he’s some sort of genious lol. He’s worse than Sam Mitchell.

  • ciroqobama

    @360vue: type longer comments nerd

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

    You’re nobody
    Till somebody
    Hates you

  • Orlando Woolridge

They should hold him out until they play at home again. Thats the right thing to do.

  • BostonBaller

James said nothing wrong and Brown may or may not have done the wrong thing BUT if Z is hurt and wasn’t expected to play then why were friends and family there for the moment. Lack of communication is what I’m seeing.

  • http://www.sixers.com 360vue

@ciroqobama lol please keep them coming. A dork last week, a nerd this week. What retro insult is next? Geek? But seriously, if you don’t like the length of the comment don’t read it. It is wholly optional, nerd.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Its a little strange that after LeBron is standing up and honouring one of his teammates, people still make this out to be an act of selfishness. Really?

  • http://showmeyourwits.blogspot.com Showmeyourwits

Okay, I’m no Lebron fan, but come on people; he’s definitely in the right for speaking up. I honestly can’t see any scenario where beating a western conference team 1 time in the regular season is more important than franchise history. Does it really matter what their record is against the Mavs? Does anyone really expect these two teams to meet in the finals? Is the outcome of the game put in jeopardy by starting Z and subbing him out shortly thereafter? This is just a d*ck move by Mike Brown, adding to his resume of questionable and poor moves.

  • Hoodsnake

Damn this hating is bordering on hilarious. Whats next? People critisizing Bron for taking a dump?

  • http://myspace.com/rsaenz24 RoG23

The last several stories about lebron have nothing to do with his play. They are all comments he made. None of them have put anyone down or insulted anybody. He just said he thinks his coach did wrong. Is that a crime? This story ain’t even bout bron. Its about Z. This is just the medias way to put down one of the most hated (loved) dudes.

  • ClydeSays

I’m no Mike Brown fan, but c’mon. Let him manage his roster based on the game. If ‘Bron wakes up one day and realizes that Brown has about 3 plays on offense, he might have something real to complain about.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I’m starting to feel sorry for some of the commenters on this site.

  • Rusty

Lebron takes dumps??????? who does he think he is.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Z is healthy right? Whats with the
‘let Z play his 30 sec and sub him’
comments? Let Z PLAY. period. Coach
Brown has it wrong, and not just
because of this poorly played out
scenario – KING James has let it
be knownst by official decree: This
Day of the 2nd being in the month
of December, the month of festivals
thy coach Mike Brown of our states
    Cavaliers shall be hereforth on
notice. Thy days are numbered foolish

  • Fat Lever

You know what would be funny? If Lebron used something like this as justification for leaving Cleveland. I’m just saying…

  • Shem

It was bad, his family was there ready to celebrate like atleast give him a minute or two especially at the end of the game or right before half time. But all the LeBron haters need to stop like im not a fan but if he gets a nice block it was from behind if he gets dunked on by a high school kid its bigger then the lakers winning the championship. All players are athletes and he was late on the weakside help. I didnt like it how he asked officials to confiscate the cameras (if thats true) but all his haters need to stop. Mike Brown is an awful coach though, calling an iso for LeBron won’t work all game. By the way does anyone know what happened to Damon Jones and Boobie Gibson? They we’re great in that 07 run and i know Damon went to Milwaukee but why? I loved his swagg and he wasnt that bad of a player

  • dial up

To the people defending mike brown: It’s not like he’s telling lebron to go uno-on-five. I’m sure he’s stressing ball movement, but lebron is gonna do what he wants no matter what.

  • J

@NUPE: the cavs next two games is still at home.. @ J-city: what does your statement have to do to what is being discussed?

  • J

damn. why hate? retiring #23, should have played Z,.. guys, that’s Lebron’s opinion let’s leave as it is please. maybe Lebron is right about this one but please don’t use it to justify Mike Brown as a coach. man i couldn’t just imagine what would’ve happened to this thread if they lost that game too.

  • BM JR

Its comedy how kobe fanatics crawl out the woodworks whenever there’s a story with lebron in it. When the hell did a 25yr old become a kid, he’s accomplished more in 12 months than yall have in a lifetime. Also they won the game easily so how can he not care bout winning RIDDLE ME THAT.

  • MooButter

Interesting article on Cleveland.com with Mike Brown about “DNP-gate”, as they refer to it.
From the article – Brown also said he regrets not playing Ilgauskas and allowing him to break the record and that he’d probably do it differently if he could go back in time. His hope now is that any hard feelings can be put in the past so the team can prepare for a difficult game against the Suns.

Here was Brown’s quote on Lebron’s comments: “LeBron is a loyal person, that’s big on his agenda and that is what has made him the type of player he is today,” Brown said. “You respect and understand he was being loyal to Z and I have no problem with that at all.”
