Marcin Gortat is Unhappy

Everyone’s favorite Marcin is none too pleased with the amount of burn Stan Van Gundy is giving him: “I love the organization, but I’m not going to stay here being a back-up player and playing five minutes a game,’ Gortat said. ‘I hope people understand that. I know I can have a bigger role on another team.’ Except that this season he just started a new five-year contract with the Magic. Only a trade can provide a bigger role on another team. Perhaps Gortat’s frustration should not come as a surprise. He was less than enthused when the Magic matched the Dallas Mavericks’ offer of five years, $34-million this past summer for the restricted free agent from Poland. He likely would have been the Mavs’ starting center. Gortat said he isn’t delivering a play-me-or-trade-me-ultimatum, realizing his role could change quickly. He said he’ll likely meet with coach Stan Van Gundy after the season to discuss his future and direct his agent, Guy Zucker, to talk with general manager Otis Smith.”

Feel for Gortat. At least he’s getting paid.. a lot.

  • the rod

gortat was a beast at the euro championship in september…he deserves at least a chance

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

We already knew he was unhappy the moment the Magic matched Dallas’ offer. But I guess they signed him mainly as insurance in case Dwight gets injured..

  • Exile

I wonder if the Magic would trade one of their centers for a Raptor PF…. Like Bargs. Not claiming to know the finer details on trades…. but The Magic have 2 quality 5′s and the Raps have 2 4′s that start…..

    I dunno.

  • tom

the great orlando squad would be named on one level with boston and la and the spurs – if they were coached better. when they went to the finals last season, it felt like the teams most difficult burden was to come along with the headcoach. just listen to those timeouts and imagine being one of those guys sitting there…

  • tom

adding: it feels like every game you watch is `analyzed` and announced by reggie miller. it just hurts somewhere inside.

Wonder if Gortat will be labeled and ungrateful athlete who doesn’t appreciate how lucky he is to play the game for money.
    I’m guessing not.
    Surprise me.

    good players play.

Cordeazy… sigh… Gortat can play. come on now.

  • iLL wiLL

    Gortat can ball!

  • http://www.clutchfans.com/ Blue

You could’ve been playing in Houston, dumbass…

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

    The Orlando Waaaahgic.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

We all know that S-Jax’s or AI’s trade demands won’t be treated the same way by the general public as Gortat’s or even . We all kinda know why too. I don’t feel like going there today but let’s not lie to ourselves. / Then again, I don’t understand why they matched.

Gortat’s pretty good when he subbed in for Howard last year, but why are they paying him almost 7 mil a year to play him 5 minutes a game? Was it just to mess with the Mavs?

  • SLAM’sFAN

    Guy Zucker!!? LOL

  • http://www.sixers.com 360vue

SVG is as sour as a lemon. He matched 5yr 34mil to have a solid back up if Dwight got injured. He should of given the man a chance to play how he can while he can. Howard’s a freak of nature anyway, he’s missed like what? 5 games max in his career…

  • Red

    Hey “Blue,”

He could not have been playing for Houston. If he had signed with them, Orlando probably would have matched that offer as well (and I don’t think it would have been for as much money… didn’t Ariza eat up the MLE?). So you don’t know what you’re talking about.

  • http://www.dallasbasketball.com Chrisco

So much for Otis Smith being a genius that outsmarted Dallas in the offseason….overpaid for two 15mpg players and now no one is happy…except Dallas who end up having to run with Dampier and find out that he’s better than Gortat/Bass anyways!!

    Thanks Mr. Smith!!

  • ab_40

maybe if they trade for that other four who is his friend. this bosh guy. make it an all euro starting line up.

    5. Gortat 4. Bargs. 3. Turkoglu 2. Bellineli 1. Calderon. that would be uhm… weird and it’s never gonna happen.

Orlando is fine as it is. stop bitsin about PT after the season please.

  • dude

I cannot feel sorry for a guy who opted for security instead of taking the risk of not signing that contract. It’s just too bad dude.

That said, at the end of the day he has the ability to make Orlando let him go by not performing and taking a buyout. His choice..

  • http://alan.george@gmail.com Breeze

well im just wondering why the hel did orlando get bass…they have use for with the sudden impact of anderson..trade gortat and bass back to dallas ..let my people go -moses

  • davidR

is gortat gonna tonya harding dwight?

  • D12FSU

I’m sorry, does Orlando have the best record in the east? The deepest bench in the league? the Coach of the Month? (some dumb@ss said on this we dont have coaching) yes..yes they have all that

  • James

He would be perfect taking over Darko’s spot of doing nothing while getting paid 7 million dollars.

  • Robb

He was unhappy since the Orlando Magic resigned him because he was heading to Dallas. The guy is a good center, he deserves more playing time.

  • FoCo

SJax asked for a trade. Gortat may want out in the future (we know he wanted out this past summer). AI quit. Let’s not fool ourselves here.

  • http://myspace.com/rsaenz24 RoG23

Yea, gortat is handling this situation like a pro. He is unhappy but will address his problems with the team after the season. He is not faking injuries. also ai wanted to go to memphis. Gortat wanted dallas, orl just matched the offer

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

Has it been confirmed that AI faked his injury? Or just he wouldn’t play through the injury like he would have if he’d enjoyed the situation? I don’t know, seems like two different scenarios to me.

  • nastierthanu

On the way to pick up my daughter I got off the main highway because there is a .75 cent toll. I took the free bridge I have no tears for gortat

  • Shem

Gortat getting minutes is highly unlikely. Dwight has missed 3 games in his 6 year career and averages 36 mins. Also, Rashard Lewis and Brandon Bass, Matt Barnes are holding down that Pf spot. You really can’t blame him for being unhappy because he almost for sure would have started on Dallas but he’s getting 15 mins a game. He knew this was going to happen when he got re signed. By the way stop saying AI quit because you really don’t know. He might have but I’ve watched him for years and that’s highly unlikely.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com/ Seth

I would enthusiastically take $34 mil to contribute 5 minutes or whatever of playing time per game.

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

If Gortat was handling this like a pro, he’d keep his mouth silent and only talk to management. He’s handling it like a punk. If S-Jax and AI are labeled punks for wanting out, Gortat is a punk too. A spade is a spade, no matter what number the card is.

  • frank

His agent can’t seriously be name Guy Zucker. It’s impossible

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Gortat for DJ and Diop, straight up

  • L

Poor little rich man. I really feel for him. Somtimes players should just shut their mouth. L

  • ConeyIslander

So?! Sit down get paid and shut up!

  • http://Www.lollercoasters.com Dr. West

Shut the f up. Good players play, bad players stay in the doghouse.

  • ED NEALY

Some of you are crazy. Marcin should just shut up and sit there and count his money on a team he is destined never to start for or get meaningful minutes? It may surprise you but there are some players for which money isn’t good enough, when they have the desire to compete at the highest level of professional athletics. The people who take a dump on Gortat for this are probably the same people who crap on Jerome James for, as one commenter so eloquently put it, sitting down, getting paid and shutting up. The man can play and wants to earn his money, and should be traded to a team that can use his talents.

  • MAvsNation

That’s what They get for paying the guy 7 mil and not letting him play.. but if you think about it.. they know Gortat’s potential adn if they give him to Dallas, they know that he could be the missing piece to finally send Dirk and the MAvs back to championship contention. if you think about it, its not very improbable. they rather pay 7 mil a year than have another contender to deal with..Too bad for gortat, he’s being played like a pawn..:(

  • doyouwantmore

    Gortat for Andre Miller possible?

  • FoCo

I don’t begrudge anybody wanting out of what they perceive to be a bad situation. Professional sports is a business. You sign a contract with a team and they can still trade you, cut you, or tell you to watch from home even. As long as Gortat shows up on gameday and gives 100% when he gets in the game he should be free to speak his mind or make any requests he wants. Same goes for any pro athlete. Now if someone starts trying to get what they want by tanking or becomes a negative influence on others in a big way then it starts to become more of a problem.

  • TheVideoRoomCoach

The Polish Hammer is a good player. With good potential. Could’ve been an all-star in the 80s. But its not the 80s anymore. Instead of high tops and afros, we have tats and attitudes. The game is about gold, not glory, and its time to realize it. When winning became important to the celtics, they spent 2/3 of their team to win. The game is a business, and it has the potential to waste talent. Sorry Hammer, but that’s the way it is….

  • Moe

Guy Zucker, please god tell me his name is Guy Zucker? Why the hell isn’t every comment about this guys name! Do you guys not see this! Who the hell cares about Gortat right now!
