McGrady Pumped for Summer, Free Agency

Tracy McGrady has only played in six games this season. He hasn’t played more than eight minutes in any of those games. The former scoring champ hasn’t scored more than 10 points yet, either. And whether in spite of or because of the lack of playing time in Houston, Tracy McGrady, still only 30, can’t wait for the summer, for free agency.

As the Houston Chronicle reports: ”I’m excited about becoming a free agent, very excited about that,” McGrady said. “It’s a time in my career it’s all about winning. Stats and all that stuff don’t really matter to me. I’m all about trying to get a chance to win a championship. My first option is definitely Houston over any team. Houston is where I want to be. My wife and kids love it there. It’s home for us. But you can’t ever rule out coming back [to Orlando].”

If Tracy does join his cousin (Vince) in Orlando, he also knows where he’d settle down. ”If I was to come back, I was going to rent out (cousin Vince Carter’s) guest house,” McGrady said.

    I can’t believe he is only 30.

He should look into PHX. They could probably revitalize him like they did to Shaq and Grant Hill.

Too bad NBA teams don’t share the same enthusiasm for his impending free agency.

I still stand by my comments from about a month ago in that I believe McGrady is going to be the underrated signing of the summer and some team is going to be very happy with picking him up on the cheap. I’m not convinced that he doesn’t have some great years left in him.

I hope he gets a title wherever he goes he’s put a great numbers over the years minus the injuries. Come to Boston you and Sheed can come off the bench and kill.

    can’t believe it either, TAD….

  • LA Huey

I would hate Orlando if they managed to get stacked like that.

Co sign Tad. This dude is not done. He’s less athletic but he’s just way too skilled.

  • Michael Scorn

Oh, NOW it’s all about winning. Ok. T-Mac = Winner. LOL

  • erik

come back T-mac , we loved you when you were in Orlando , and we know the only reason you started hatin on the team is when JOHN WEISBROD was GM and totally disrespected the NBA SUPERSTAR that you were. Know one but you and PENNY can rock the magic jersey #1 truthfully. T-BACK !!!

I like how the article says he “hasn’t scored more than 10 points yet” as if that’s bad, but conveniently neglects the fact that those 10 points came in 7 minutes and 50 seconds. Oh, and they also came with 3 or 4 assists.
    He’ll be fine.

Co-sign TADOne, I’m honestly baffled that Houston doesn’t feel that he could improve their team. I’ve never really considered the guy an Allen Iverson per se, where it’s all about him and his shot attempts. I thought T-Mac was a decent guy and was becoming a better team player as he got older. Maybe I’m mistaken??

  • Teddy-the-Bear

When was Iverson about his shot attempts? That’s Larry Hughes, fool. Iverson is about his playing time, meaning he doesn’t want to play 18 minutes a game behind Mike Conleys of the league.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

The Rockets actually could use McGrady a lot right now… Ariza is good, but he shot 1 for 10 last night…

Jedi, the team itself likes tmac and wants him to recover, the notion that they want him gone at all costs regardless of his improvement is false and was put out there by the media. That beign said, it’s still a business it it’s all about winning, if houston has a deal on the table for Mac that’s a no brainer, they’ll go for it, liek they would for just about anyone on the team, except for Yao.

    no thanx

“I’m all about trying to get a chance to win a championship.” Yeah, He’s Not About Winning Championships, He Just Wants To Try To Get A Chance To Win A Championship. Trying Is The First Step Towards Failure, T-Mac. You May Want To Think About This.

  • Float_world

Which team wouldn’t want Mcgrady at the right price(except maybe the Lakers)??
If he takes the pay cut he could win a title with Boston IF they can stay healthy and fight father time 1 more year. Personally, I’d like to see him with the Spurs. Decent fit? Ship out Jefferson, let Finley retire and plot in Mcgrady.

mcgrady saying he wants a chance to win a chip is like a virgin saying he wants to sleep with a supermodel. gotta get past first before you talk about anything else.

If T-Mac just a little bit smarter and more humble than AI, he will be landed by some title contender.

  • ab_40

he’ll be fine but I don’t think he’ll be back in houston. ariza thinks he’s a superstar which he is not. I don’t know if the houston players understand that Tmac and Yao are option 1 and 2 when healthy and this is fun ‘n all but it isn’t championship caliber basketball. they have those players but they can’t use em. and is the von wafer signing with houston rumor true? because that makes no sense at all with T-mac ready to get some minutes?

  • nastierthanu

I haven’t seen him ball in a minute. I’m not sure how he would play but I don’t think orlando would be a good fit. Didn’t work in toronto. Doc rivers likes to get after it on defense. T mac never has been known for his defensive prowess. Utah might be a nice fit. Maybe even dallas take some pressure off dirk. Kidd shoots less and ol boy from wake forest slashing to the bucket(can’t remember his name). Sounds nice he doesn’t leave texas and the mavs never play d

  • gigolo

either he goes to boston or phoneix..no doubt he stil can play,,only a matter of desire T-mac.

  • http://slamonline.com Dave

T-Mac may only be thirty, but his knee and back are older than Robert Parish.

  • rainman10

Don’t rule out the Bulls signing him after they miss out on the first few big names they try to sign.

  • kevin

hes good but houston needs to release him they hav scola ariza brooks landry yao

  • tavoris

the good thing about his limited minutes is that he’s gonna be unlikely to get hurt.
I must admit that he’s been looking GOOD out there

  • ady

Haha . . . if TMAC wanted to really play with his cousin Vince, he should’ve just stayed put in Toronto!

  • http://slamonline.com NUPE

T-Mac could make any team better if he is willing to come off the bench and he makes most teams better as a starter. I boubt they’ll trade him to a team in the west, and if he wants a contender then celts, magic and cavs are the only viable options in the east. He would provide great depth for the celts from the bench and would be a starter for the cavs instead of AP. The Magic are likely his first choice but I’m not sure what they have or would be willing to give up for him. Cavs are most desperate for a second scorer and they have some trade bait, so that’s my guess. But he comes with a hefty price tag that may make any team think twice this year.

Tmac in Orlando would be great GO MAGIC!!!!!!!
