Ghostface out for the Blazers, too

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Hey, does anyone know if the Rose Garden is built on top of an Indian burial ground? Because it sure feels as though the Portland Blazers are a cursed bunch.

In the span of less than a month, the team has lost its two centers, possibly for the remainder of the season. Last night, Joel “Ghostface” Przybilla went down with a horrific knee injury.

The Oregonian has the gruesome details:

Przybilla suffered a ruptured right patellar tendon and patella dislocation and is out indefinitely. He is scheduled to fly back to Portland today for further testing and, eventually, surgery, after which doctors will determine how much time he will miss.

The injury was eerily similar to the one Greg Oden sustained Dec. 5 against the Houston Rockets. “I knew it was pretty severe when it happened,” said Przybilla, who was smiling and positive after the game. “My leg was stuck in a funny position. It really didn’t hurt, but I could tell something wasn’t right.”

For the Blazers, who entered the game with just 10 healthy players because of a rash of injuries, losing Przybilla is a surreal and disheartening blow. “We just couldn’t believe that someone else went down,” LaMarcus Aldridge said. “We all stopped and said, ‘Please tell me this ain’t real.’”

And it don’t stop … Star guard Brandon Roy might soon be out of action, too. Brandon is scheduled to undergo an MRI tomorrow on his left shoulder to determine the severity of his injury (which he sustained in the fourth quarter of last night’s win against Dallas.)

The Blazers need to make things right with the deities that supposedly decide the fate of basketball franchises, because those guys are evidently very angry at them.

Wow, this is shaping up to be a tough season for Portland. They’ve got Rocket fever.

  • tavoris

damn it’s just not in the cards for Portland this year.

this is what you get when your GM gets a ton of talented players and then gloats. Portland got busted by the karma police. Kidding of course. Get well soon everybody

  • JoeMaMa

    Bring back Sabonis!!!!

  • nicko

    TRADE FOR SHAQ!!!!

  • riggs

    damn….merry christmas utah fans?

  • Hussman25

This is just sad! I was really looking forward to seeing the Trailblazers do well this year… When your coach hurts himself on top of all the injuries the team is having; there’s no one on earth that couldnt tell me theyre jinx’d… The playoffs are not in jeopardy… yet…

Damn..Ruptured right patellar tendon and patella dislocation is no joke. Well, on the bright side, at least if ROY doesn’t play you can join in on the John Wall Marathon.

  • Joe

If Roy goes out for a long time, their season is over.

When did Kevin Pritchard gloat? I follow the Blazers very closely and I have never heard him take credit for anything. He always defers credit to the entire management group and he is by all local accounts a very nice and down to earth guy.

There is some inside info that Mark Warkentein has been bitter at the Blazers from his time there and he anonymously blasts Pritchard and leaks their information/emails. From what I’ve heard, pretty much any negative story about Pritchard with a GM “source” is from this guy.

The only thing Pritchard has done “wrong” is be in the public eye too much. At first he never turned down an interview, but has now learned to stay behind the scenes more.

  • tavoris

@Joe it’s already over with Oden/Pryzbilla out. Aldridge doesn’t have it in him to move to Center

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

man…its a sad fUking thing…PORTLAND NEEDS MARCUS CAMBY!! MAKE IT HAPPEN PRITCHARD!!! John Wall could be a very luckydude landing in a championship contender, cause, face it! with everyone healthy next year the Blazers will chalenge LA..Book it

  • d.j.

at least now jared bayless will get a chance to show what he is got cause their roster is shot…

  • http://gmail dirty frank

    It’s o.k. They’ve got Juwan Howard

  • RV

and rockets fans are asking, “that’s it?”

  • CaTDoG2332

    someone might need Dalembert now….

  • Thype

I think Portland should trade Miller to Orlando for Polish Hammer. Orlando needs a point guard like Miller and Portland sure as hell could use a banger down low.

  • The D Train

So we now are without first and second string centers, first string small forward, second string power forward, second string shooting guard, and our coach is advised by doctors not to stand up. Seriously, up here in the Pacific NW, this is so much like the Seahawks last season when they lost their entire receiving corps, hall of fame left tackle and starting QB. It is getting f’ing ridiculous. I watched the game and it was obvious from the jump that Ghost-Face was done for the season. Roy after the game was awesome…that dude just gets it. He is the right guy to lead the team, as long as they can maintain some semblance of an NBA roster. When you sign Juwan Howard as your 12th man and he is playing a major role, and possibly starting, you are S C R E W E D.

  • The D Train

On a positive note, as noted above, they should be able to rock Bayless a bit more if they stick with some small-ball lineup. Three guards along with LA is an exciting four, but you are going to have a hard time running with Juwan at the 4 or 5. You can cash in this season as far as a playoff run, but hopefully these young cats keep their heads up more than me and make the tourney still. One local writer made a really good point that now is the time for the ultra rich and newly signed Roy and Aldridge to step up and take over this team. Roy seems to have it, but, at this point, I have not seen it from LA.

  • jdn41

wow watching that video made me cringe

  • NBA kid

@thype: no way the magic do that trade, miller can’t shoot a 3 to save his life and he’s got like 10 years on gortat. now if it was blake for marcin…

  • The D Train

@jdn41: not a good sign when the trainer immediately places a towel over the knee to keep the player from having to look at it. i didn’t see Oden’s, but Pryz’s kneecap seemed to be floating around somewhere near the top of his shin. i got sick to my stomach and turned the game off. in fact, the color guy for Portland said that he was glad he didnt eat a big dinner because it was that disgusting

  • kwame

this is much worse than the rockets…this is jus weird man…

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

@RV: THINK ABOUT THE ROCKETS LOSING SCOLA, LANDRY, BATTIER, BROOKS, LOWRY AND ARIZA FOR THE SEASON…NOW PUT A HEALTHY YAO AND MAC OUT THERE, WHITCH WOULD BE ROY AND LAMARCUS…ITS NOT PREETY DUDE!!also Barkley is funny but hes dumb and he doesnt know sh!t about bball nowdays, he said the rockets were awful, I said all along, they play hard and smart, COLECTIVE, no nonsense bball..WHO THE FUK NEEDS A SUPERSTAR FOR THAT?!

  • http://www.sonicbids.com doyouwantmore

    Gortat for Miller.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Hey Paul Allen, Detroit will trade you Kwame Brown for Jerryd Bayless and some Microsoft stock.

  • Retrobat

No way does Magic trade Miller or Blake for Gortat. Since when does a team (not named Memphis) trade an up-and-coming center for a veteran point guard? Besides, we already have Nelson,Jason Williams and Anthony Johnson. We don’t need no stinkin’ point guard (unless it’s CP3, Jennings or Deron)

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

um, anyone remember orl matching an insane offer for gortat? they will not be trading him. portland did this to themselves by taking oden over durant. then threatening teams not to sign miles. seriously, large amount of injuries suck. maybe they need a new training staff.

  • http://www.twitter.com/PDXGayBball dma

in hindsight everyone says pick durant over oden. every team outside of orlando, lakers and possibly houston would have picked oden over durant. now as far as the gortat-miller trade, no way either team would pull the trigger. i blame andre miller for all the injuries though. he put some sort of hex on the team for not starting him at the beginning of the year.

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

I don’t Orlando needs Miller now that Jameer Nelson is back and J.dub is still there.

  • Joey Jo Jo

Bloody Jeebus! Even Brandon Roy? There goes my fantasy team.

  • http://www.teflinprague.com SAB

any curse on the blazers surely goes back to them messing around with D-Miles, no..?

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

miles was the one messing around sab, getting millionaire while playing literally ZERO BASKETBALL, THERES SOMETHING VERY WRONG WHITH THAT

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

    dikembe!

  • David

Why is the training team in Phoenix so much better than every other team in the league? I mean, they revitalized Shaq, got Amare back from microfracture surgery, have Grant Hill playing full seasons, as well as having both Hill and Nash playing much better than guys in their mid-30s are supposed to be.

  • BostonBaller

That burial ground is named Taketh Sam Bowie over MJ………which is laid on top of Walton’s burial ground.
