NBA Reviewing Artest’s Drinking Confession

The League is going to determine if Ron’s admission to sipping on some Henny during his Bulls days is something they can live with or not: “The story prompted the NBA to investigate Artest’s comments. The league said Wednesday it will speak with Artest before ruling on whether to fine him, suspend him or do nothing, NBA spokesman Tim Frank said. Frank said the NBA declined to comment further, other than to say, ‘We hope Ron has a successful season.’ Nine people currently with or associated with the Bulls expressed skepticism over Artest’s claim, according to the Chicago Tribune. All addressed the situation under the condition of anonymity. Lakers spokesman John Black said the team had no comment. Artest’s agent, Dave Bauman, declined to comment. Artest was unavailable for comment. The Lakers took Wednesday off from practice.”

so they are going to suspend him for something he did during his Bulls days? That is a little absurd….

  • Z Posted: Dec.3 at 9:47 am
What’s pretty stupid is admitting (boasting?)that you were drinking during games and expect the NBA to be okay with that.

  • Vish Posted: Dec.3 at 9:52 am
I agree, that is very stupid….but it just seems crazy if they fine or suspend him for that since it happened way back…plus there is no way of confirming whether he really did….if they are going to go by his word, well then good luck!

    This is ridiculous.

  • knickerbonkers Posted: Dec.3 at 10:26 am
Is smoking a blunt while watching the game punishable? OK now Im worried.

  • knickerbonkers Posted: Dec.3 at 10:28 am
Im sayin I didnt do it per se but if i did do it thats the way i would do it.
(hmm thats a good title for a book, lemme write this down)

I think not the “When it happened” is important but rather: Can they fine him for something he only said he has done ? Where is the evidence ? Where are the weapons of mass destruction ?

  • German Reignman Posted: Dec.3 at 10:39 am
Or can they fine him for “not talking like a role model” ? What about coaches bringing beer to press conferences ? Arent those also part of the game, like the halftime ?

  • Z Posted: Dec.3 at 10:43 am
Reignman, that’s a reach… Players AND coaches can drink after games. / The NBA could fine him for just making their product look bad. A suspension would be ridiculous without any evidence but a fine is more likely.

  • RoG23 Posted: Dec.3 at 10:46 am
Did u guys know Kanye West drinks Henny ?

  • Vish Posted: Dec.3 at 10:47 am
most likely there will be another thing added to the ‘do not do list’ for the players….and no fine or suspension…..

  • RoG23 Posted: Dec.3 at 10:48 am
Artest shouldn’t be acting stupid anymore, he is a man who is a hero to many people (children) in NY

  • Allenp Posted: Dec.3 at 11:01 am
Artest should have just admitted he discriminated against blacks and Latinos during games. Then he would have been straight.

  • Brad Long Posted: Dec.3 at 11:14 am
    LMAO^

  • Kadavour Posted: Dec.3 at 11:23 am
what’s the statute of limitations on summary offenses in the NBA? i really don’t think provisions were made for this kind of thing, so if Ron wants to piss out his Tell All material, i say let him.

  • The Wize Posted: Dec.3 at 11:49 am
    lol at knickerbonkers

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.3 at 12:09 pm
if they gonna do that, then Charles Barkley is looooooooooooooong overdue for a fine or twelve

  • 360vue Posted: Dec.3 at 12:15 pm
I suspect NBA are just keeping face as a ‘responsible’ organization. Either that or it’s just some pedantic hateration.

  • dma Posted: Dec.3 at 12:22 pm
it’s just another twist in the storyline for the lakers this season.

  • Hoodsnake Posted: Dec.3 at 1:04 pm
I would also have sipped the henney if i was on that bulls team

  • nick Posted: Dec.3 at 1:29 pm
They’ll fine him something insignificant to look “tough on crime.” A suspension wouldn’t possibly pass appeal, so there’s no point.

  • nick Posted: Dec.3 at 1:30 pm
    Also, lol@alanp

  • JD Posted: Dec.3 at 2:57 pm
Ron Ron played 4 da Bulls?

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.3 at 2:57 pm
I guess David Stern wants all NBA players to teach the fans that it’s ok to lie and cover up the truth, as opposed to actually being human beings.

  • don Posted: Dec.3 at 2:59 pm
he didn’t get caught right? then that means, it didn’t happen.

  • don Posted: Dec.3 at 2:59 pm
he didn’t get caught right? then that means, it didn’t happen.

  • Clark Posted: Dec.3 at 2:59 pm
I would need to drink too if I was planning to fight Ben Wallace… He’s knows that’s gunna hurt.

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.3 at 2:59 pm
@JD, the Bulls could have easily had a current lineup of Hinrich, Gordon, Artest, Brand, and Brad Miller right now. Except for the fact that their management sux

  • Z Posted: Dec.3 at 3:21 pm
Um, would they even WANT that lineup? How’s that better than Drose, Salmons, Deng, Ty Thomas, Noah with Kirk and Brad off the bench?!

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.3 at 3:35 pm
Z-they woulda wanted that lineup up until Rose got drafted.

  • Robb Posted: Dec.3 at 6:09 pm
As if they didn’t know. This kind of stuff is something that happens. He was not the first and certainly he won’t be the last one. He said it. Big deal.

I’ve seen players drink champagne in the locker room after games (during the NBA finals)Artest was just celebrating early.

  • Michael Scorn Posted: Dec.3 at 10:34 pm
The Lakers should get punished, by an Artest suspension, for what he did while playing for the Bulls.

  • TripleDouble Posted: Dec.4 at 2:12 am
Ron is a great entertainer. I’m a fan.

  • Harlem_World Posted: Dec.4 at 6:02 am
Will they fine him? Depends if they’re able to get any money from Hennessy for the pr on this story. Don’t put it past stern…if there’s a deal to be made, blood to be sucked, anything left in the barrel – you better believe it’s going to get done.

  • Scott Posted: Dec.4 at 10:13 am
Same thing happened with Keon Clark (remember him?) admitting he drank at halftime back in his Toronto days, and nothing happened to him. Granted, he confessed this after his playing days were over, but I don’t think there is anything in the rules that the NBA can enforce against Ron-Ron…

  • james Posted: Dec.4 at 10:42 am
i used to drink at halftime or before the game but i didnt play so noone cared and it was a lot more fun on the bench when you are smashed lol

  • rhyen Posted: Dec.4 at 11:00 am
was Duhon on that Bulls team…..?

  • Chazz Michael Michaels Posted: Dec.4 at 12:11 pm
Ron Ron its just me n my drink

  • tavoris Posted: Dec.4 at 2:35 pm
    @rhyen-he wasn’ drafted yet.
    @scott-so true.
