Dunk Contest Field Announced

N8, @LetShannonDunk, Crash, and the winner of the ridiculous ‘Dunk-In’. There’s your field: “2009 Sprite Slam Dunk champion Nate Robinson of the New York Knicks will attempt to become the first three-time winner of the competition when he defends his title on NBA All-Star Saturday Night, Feb. 13, at American Airlines Center (8 p.m. ET on TNT) in Dallas. Robinson will compete against the Charlotte Bobcats’ Gerald Wallace and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Shannon Brown.”

I’m really glad that Brown is taking the love he deserves. I’m curious about what Nate will do this year though… Gerald is way athletic and spectacular and that’s why he was a good choice. So, put DeMar in and let the show begin!

  • huey

i thought Lebron was supposed to be in the contest

  • riggs

lol @ u for thinking that then

  • dpak

gerald should’ve been in it 5 years ago.

  • http://slamonline.com d.j.

i thought the whole thing was supposed to be held at the cowboys stadium and not the arena ? and funny how nate has the chance to become the first 3 time winner but he didnt even deserve to win the first two times…. im picking wallace if healthy…

  • BigWalt206

Love Lebron, but dude is scared. Can’t stand the thought of taking a public loss in something so silly and unquantifiable. Besides, its not like Mike ever participated in any dunk contests….oh wait.

  • Sparker

    NO MIDGETS, i said

  • Retrokidbk83

Lebron is a game dunker! He won by stinking it up in the High School Dunk Contest he did the same dunks he does in games. Gerald Wallace competed in a Dunk Contest when he was in Sacramento and he missed all his dunks! I think it’s gonna be between Demar and Shannon.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Crash Bandicoot? Just let DeRozan in the competition man. Screw the “Dunk-in”

  • http://www.youtube.com/ L

Wow about time Shannon and Crash get to dunk. This should have been aloud years ago! Ha no Lebron. Hes scared to lose

  • spit hot fiyah

why only four guys each year, i don’t get it, back in the day they used to have like 8 fools

  • michael scorn

LeBron only made that anouncement last year so that he could butter up the media for MVP votes. “Look at LeBron, he is making the NBA better.” what a liar

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

LeBron building hype to something that was never gonna happen in the first place despite the media wanting it in the worst way? Well, I for one am shocked.

  • boy sanchez

Oh come on everybody! Did you really think that Lebron would enter the dunk contest for real?

  • Jake

Oh this is going to be a dandy.EXPAND THE FIELD ALREADY!

  • Bushfiya

DeRozan is gonna shine, he should win if he pulls it off!! If not, its gonna be a close one!

  • riggs

lmao @ anton, seems like something about his new york future seems fishy now…..

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Gerald wallace shud be in the dunk-in instead of Demar

  • The Wize

@anton: a bit like last years NBA championship ring.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ DIMITRIS DIAMANTIDIS

Lebronze is a coward(ok,everybody knows this). Shannon brown easily.Come on, Gerald Wallace didn’t made it as a rookie(remember the wheel??!!!). I would like to see Rodney Carney before he gets 30….

  • michael scorn

The NBA has it backwards. The fans should vote the dunk contest participants and the league picks the All-Stars. All problems would be solved. Or does this make too much sense?

  • Hussman25

    LEBRON IS A BIZNITCH!!!!!

  • Fred

F**k Lebron, is a liar. Don’t say something if you don’t think doing it.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ DIMITRIS DIAMANTIDIS

By the way: the first 3-time winner (although un-official) is J-Rich that had maybe the most difficult dunk in the history of the event (of the glass, between the legs)in the year Jones won with a dunk i could also do (convert a pass from a fun into a dunk….). J-Rich is one of the most underated dunkers of all time.

  • Bruno

I agree wallace should have been there before not right now

  • rob

Lebron likes to play it safe. He’s a coward. A man who doesn’t keep his word is a friggin’ coward.

Hey Nike: make a puppet of Lebron dressed like a ballerina and call it Dancin Queen James!

LeBron should compete in dancing with the stars since all he does is dance like a moron (when his winning of course). Wait, forget it, he would be too scared to compete against guys like Billy Ray Cyrus.

Oh, and change that “Dunkman” logo, since he doesn’t dunk!

Yes I’m officially a LBJ hater now.

  • http://m.twitter.com/BeeBopLive BeeBopLIVE

I think demar will win both the dunk in and the dunk contest, either him or shannon

  • kudos

    Where’s lebron at?!?!?

  • Fred

    I’m a LBJ hater too!!!

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com/ Seth

Where’s LeBron? Worried he might have to shake someone’s hand at the end of the competition?

  • L

Lebron is such a coward. I go for shannon vs demar in final..L

  • boy sanchez

Lebron is not the league, the league is David Stern. He’s the one who decides such things, not Lebron… But, yes, he must not make such announcements…

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

This is all due to the lax gun laws in America

    THIS IS LIFE AND DEATH

  • rob

@boy sadly David Stern didn’t decide this, otherwise James would be there. The ratings would be a lot higher with Ledouche in the competition.

  • boy sanchez

@rob…: Yeah that’s a good opinion and I respect that. All I’m saying is that this was not Lebron’s choice.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ DIMITRIS DIAMANTIDIS

@boysanchez…..:re megale, o Stern den mporei na anagkasei kanena na paiksei sta karfomata. Ayto einai etsi apo palia. An ithele na simetasxei o lebron, o Stern tha tou ekane pipes(TV ratings, fun appeal, klp).

  • boy sanchez

@Mitsos…: E nai swsto kai afto… Profanws o allos den to ithele pragmatika alliws tha ta gamouse ola.

  • O

I guess no one here believes Nate can Threepeat as Dunk Champion…

  • O

And while on the topic, for some reason I think Lebron might add himself at the last minute and take everyone by surprise. But that’s just me…

  • Tommy Patron

Well, maybe next year they can call it the Dunk Exhibition. Then the pressure won’t be too much for LeBron to take.

  • Orlando Green

Lebron is a biatch!!.. and I can’t believe that mini midget is there again..

  • michael scorn

I wonder how many kids were in that arena when LeBron lied right to their faces.

  • Hugo

for those who didnt kno, gerald wallace been in the dunk comp as a king…sry if someone mentioned this already

  • http://slamonline.com deshawn

well @ least N8´s gonna be well rested comin´in..

  • clyde

this will be uninteresting unless someone attempts a double through-the-legs. that would be sweet, even if they missed.

  • jared

O you’re an idiot, this isn’t professional wrestling…if this is what they’re gonna give us on a yearly basis they should cancel it now. i’m sick of seeing missed dunks and costume partys

  • Chang

Always love the event no matter who is dunking. I think Brown or DeRozan will win, if DeRozan gets in. Might as well let DeRozan in because there’s not way the smaller Gordan can beat him.
I don’t know about you all but I’m sick of seeing Nate’s gimmicky dunks. I don’t think he could do anything else but gimmicky dunks.

  • Jon

very disappointed at lebron. i say cancel the event because its becoming a joke.

  • letsmotor

when lebron said he was going to do it, he meant it. problem was, he made that “decision” last year mostly because while he was at the dunk contest, he was thinking something like “look at all the attention and glory these guys are getting…I want some of that!”

  • RoytheBoy

Wallace WAS in the dunk contest several years ago when he played for the Kings.
While he is very athletic, I feel like there are better dunkers in the league. They probably just put him in cause he’s having an All-Star season, but probably won’t be in the actual game. Tis a shame.

  • michael scorn

@letsmotor- I believe LeBron was trying to STEAL the attention that the dunkers were getting. He tried making that night about him.

  • michael scorn

LeBron also knows that unlike the olympics, Kobe can’t just step in and win it for him.

  • MikeC.

Eric Gordon?!? I’ve never seen him dunk. Granted, I also haven’t seen many Clippers games. Is Eric Gordon actually a big-time dunker? I thought he was their designated “stand on the wing and fire up 3s against the clock because Baron dribbles too much” guy.
I haven’t seen much of Derozan either. Which says a lot for how boring the cRaptors are to watch as I live in Canada and subscribe to RaptorsTV.
@ michael scorn – as for fans voting for the dunk contest, I don’t think that will work since we’d just have Iverson, McGrady and Yao in the dunk contest every year.

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

Nate Robinson vs. Lebron in the dunk contest would be inssaaaaaaaaane!

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

WTG Lebron for being a whussy and not making this happen. It woulda been epic..

  • Ryan

Great line-up can’t wait to see what Crash can do. I don’t really care if LeBron dunks or not his heads already to big as it is. My tip is ShanWow, the dude just flies I’m expecting something huge from him. LA Baby !!!!

  • michael scorn

OK, enough Bron bashing. Let’s think of what would work to motivate him to participate. Maybe if all cameras were removed, but people watching on TV wouldn’t like that idea.

  • Shem

I clearly remember lebron saying that he wants to be in the dunk contest at last years dunk contest, i know the nba and david stern would LOVE to have him in it so im guessing lebron backed out

  • J

no Bron? not surprised at all. Shannon this year. oh and i just snap out of my mind… remember ryan hollins dunk on blatche? his head over the rim and blatche as a step ladder…. sick.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

“Lebron James is saying, in 2010 in Dallas stadium I am preliminary putting my name in the dunk contest” — LeBron James
^But guys, he said preliminar[ily]!! Seriously though, who really thought he’d take part?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Eff the field, seriously how demeaning for DeRozan to have to face Gordon, come ON, Eric freaking Gordon for a chance to participate when he’s clearly the better skywalker?? Dude is on the top ten highlights every day he plays! I luv crash Wallace, but dude you didn’t get it done in your rookie year, so why now? Hops are still amazing, but it seems he’s more of the ingame dunker / finisher than the creative kind. And could someone please lock Nate in his locker and throw away the keys before the event starts? can’t bear to watch yet another dunk contest with him.

  • michael scorn

Nate said he will keep defending it if he keeps winning. I’m gonna vote for him or text. How ever it works.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

At this point i’d rather see the following in the contest instead of Crash: Tony Allen (wasn’t he just operated on? damn, son!), Will Bynum (yeah, he’s injured, still..), Westbrook (shiatt, that’s a participant as he lives and breathes, solid powerful guard who posterizes), JR (seriously, that guy is ridiculous in games) and on it goes…

  • nastierthanu

    Lb sold out

  • http://www.yahoo.com Logues

bron is a p**sy, and will bynum shoulda got a chance. i love wallace and he is a good dunker but not good enough for a dunk contest

  • MikeC.

@ Darksaber – Don’t you mean Earl Smith III? Or maybe you mean JR Rider. Now that would be ill. It’d be nice to see a dude with gray in his beard show these kids how to dunk with malt liquor on his breath.

  • Nawlins Realest.

how about james white??? dahntay jones??? gerald wallace??? whyyyy??

  • Lazaruz

    ommmgg soooo over robinson

  • http://IJustWantMyNameToLookBig.com Chukaz

    LeBron’s a pussay!!!!

  • http://www.laumol.nl/weblog Laumol

Shannon Brown will winn by dunking over Nate… oh wait, that’s not gonna get you any points

  • Yesse

    @ dpak, He was.8 year’s ago and didn’t do many nice dunk’s.

This is a huge disappointment.Ofcourse Nate has to be there for defending his championship, but what about LeBron?Andre Iguodala? This is ridicilous.Atleast they got Shannon right.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Wasn’t Crash the guy who pulled out ‘the wheel’ and whatever it spun on he was gonna do that dunk? Then he failed and basically thought he was robbed?

Put Westbrook, Rodney Carney, Will Bynum, Corey Brewer, Ariza, Wade, Shannon Brown aaaand the French kid (he’s a rookie) playing for Dallas in. Beurboius? (I have no clue how to spell it, my bad)
    There’s a pefectly good field of 8.

  • boy sanchez

Do you guys know what the ultimate dunk contests would be? I’ll just say the participants: Dwight Howard. Dwayne Wade. Lebron James. Kobe Bryant. You are welcome to fill up the details. (Man, that would be even more epic than Dominique-Michael battle!)

  • boy sanchez

I would say T-Mac, who I loved see him dunking back in the day, instead of DWade, but his knees wouldn’t obey now…

  • boy sanchez

Come on guys! Throw some ideas! Let’s show Stern that there are people out there who are REALLY care about the dunk contest and they don’t come up with bu***it like the Dunk-In!

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ DIMITRIS DIAMANTIDIS

There is only one reason for Lebron NOT to participate: the (STRONG) possibility that he is going to lose. This will hurt his image as one of the greatest dunkers of all time, a lot. Most of the all-time greats have won the event(except Kemp). Lebron is the greatest ingame dunker today but just like KEMP(greatest in-game dunker of all time) will have truble facing the shorter acrobats like Nate and Brown. On another note, don’t you think that somehow Derozan ain’t got the hops he had in high school…?? The other night he was blocked by Delfino…!!??!!!!!

  • http://thegayestwebsiteever.com Big Ben

Well, at least nobody will be in Brown’s way this time…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikuwQWvUTK0

I know that really has nothing to do with anything, but I just enjoy watching it.

  • OneStep

Sigh. I couldn’t be less interested. Unless someone pulls off a 720 windmill from the free-throw line it’s going to be the same old tired nonsense.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Why isn’t Eric Gordon in the 3pt Competition…

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Wallace got robbed of some scores back in the day. Now that the dunk wheel is gone, Gerald can do Gerald. But im honestly more excited to see Gerald in the All-Star game than in the dunk contest. Cant wait though!

  • WOODY

I can’t believe that so many people are saying so much about an event that is so utterly, abjectly and absolutely unimportant and meaningless. Hey guys, there’s professional wrestling at the high school gym – better hurry.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ DIMITRIS DIAMANTIDIS

@WOODY….:dunking is the most impressive/important part of the game!!!!!!!(at least to all former/current dunking maniacs)

  • http://thegoodpoint.com Sam Joynt

TORONTO RAPTORS FANS…Cheer on Demar by remembering how much we hate Vince Carter. It’s time to move on with a new franchise high flyer, but read about how we were wronged by the man we onced referred to as Air Canada and reflect on why the boos with never stop.
