Calderon Not Looking to Cause Trouble

Jose — who’s returning from injury — says he won’t be causing his coach any headaches when it comes to the issue of playing time: “With Jarrett Jack as the starting No. 1, the Raptors, for various reasons not excluding a favourable schedule, have carved out a win-loss record of 8-5. True, their grasp on near-respectability is tenuous. But Calderon, if he made the moment about himself, could make the argument, as Ford did, that he shouldn’t lose his starting gig on account of an injury, and he’d have a point. He didn’t make the point. Jay Triano, the Raptors coach, said he won’t start Calderon in Wednesday’s game against the Magic – ‘I’m not going to disrupt the unit that we have right now,’ the coach said – and Calderon wasn’t exactly fuming. ‘It’s Jay’s call. I’m ready to help the team, and keep winning games,’ said Calderon on Tuesday, after he participated in his first full practice with his teammates since his injury. ‘If I’ve got to be coming from the bench the first two, three, four, five games, or whatever, it’s Jay’s call. He’s the coach.’ Both Calderon and Jack spent Tuesday saying all the right things, that it’s the coach’s decision, that they’ll do what’s required. Far more telling, of course, will be the on-court performance of the group as Calderon works his way back into the fold.”

This is really admirable and other players should look up to Calderon for being a classy team player. Go Raptors and make a strong push in the playoffs!

I still say the Martin/Udrih for Calderon/DeRozan trade makes perfect sense

Repeating somthing dosnt make it any better of an idea.

But I’ll be damned if I stop, Boing.

I hope raptors will continue with Jack who knows what teamplay is, not like Calderon = ball to Bosh = bad games.
And I really hope that Raptors will never trade DeRozan, he’s young but he add some physical and strenght at raptors’s game.

I’m perfectly fine with Calderon coming off the bench.

    he’s hurting my fantasy team..

F*ck no it dont make no sense why would u trade an all* (Martin) and a good player (Udrih) for 2 scrubs from the Raptors if u were the Kings… and Calderon is fine coming of the bench now since he int in game shape yet, i wonder if he will be fine with it 10 games from now if he is still coming of the bench…

haha jjack is terrible i was so happy when the season ended and he was no longer a blazer. but back to the original topic, if i had a long-term contract, i wouldn’t complain about playing time either. just as long as somebody CTC

DJ: Well, I think Calderon is much better than Udrih… he’d defer more to Evans (who plays better at the two) and provide more veteran leadership to the young guys. Of Course, Martin is superior to all of them but the Kings want to get rid of Martin… they aren’t going to get 100 cents on the dollar here. Getting DeRozan means getting a future starting two guard, and a guy who can come off the bench and provide spark energy for the Kings (as well as a LONG TERM guy, since he’s only 21).
So it makes sense to me.

Martin to the Raps? The last thing they need is another 20ppg scorer in the starting line-up. If the Raps are crazy enough to trade away DeRozan already, they’d better do it for a proven defensive stopper.

  • d.j.

Maybe udrih 4 calderon but thats it… martin by himself is worth both of those guys from the raps.. also i do believe that derozan will be a bust a 10ppg guy at best.. so i wouldn’t pull a trigger on that one.. they can get better for martin.. he is a 24-25ppg game guy all* potential.. maybe martin for rip hamilton idk maybe they dont even need a 3 depending how good caspi will get, he is impressive so far for a rook

Apparently, Jose Calderon is the Bizarro World’s answer to The Answer.

  • davidR

martin is a crazy scorer, but dude doesn’t play d. he’d be an extremely deadly 6th man for any contender, but he’ll prolly get overpaid to be the star of some scrub team

As nice as Martin is, I never gave him a second look based on his injury history. Dude is fragile.

Calderon came into the league a backup and only got the job afte Ford’s injury. Since that time, he’s failed ot live up to the hype. Comparing him to Allen Iverson because he’s not complaining shows a lack of intelligence.

@Jukai: Martin and Udrih for DeRozan and Calderon would be a bad trade. Martin has already proved himself as a scoring sg which is what the raps hope derozan becomes so.. its not a bad trade but its not the greatest one either. Anyways, I m glad because I dont like Calderon much.

Allenp: unless your hype radar consists solely of chuck swirsky, where did you hear all this hype about calderon? he was touted as a solid back up to ford, and ended up being a very, very reliable starting point guard. As for the iverson comment, I think it’s pretty obvious he was contrasting their attitudes, not comparing their games.

Calderon is a horrible defender who damn near cost the Raps the game last night against ORL.

keep Jared Jack as a starter, I really like the way he is playing and am very happy he’s a Raptor this year, I hope we can keep Calderon happy by coming off the bench. if he doesn’t like that role i think we should trade him he’s so inconsistant and a huge liability on defense…he would be great energy coming off the bench but thats all he’s good for.
