Larry Hughes’ Turn to Moan About D’Antoni

At this rate, even the Knick ball boys will have voiced displeasure with the coach by season’s end: “Nate Robinson’s return to the lineup has come at Larry Hughes’ expense and the veteran guard isn’t happy about it. ‘It’s not a good way to play a season, going back and forth,’ said Hughes, who did not play in the Knicks’ 132-89 victory over the Pacers Sunday night. ‘This is my second or third time now (getting benched). It’s getting old.’ Hughes objected to the fact that Mike D’Antoni has not addressed his role with him. Hughes has been benched for two straight games. ‘It’s easy to communicate with a grown man,’ Hughes said. ‘It’s a long season and you always want to have dialog and talk things out. I definitely want the dialog. Let guys know where they stand and you can voice opinions on both sides. There’s nothing wrong with voicing an opinion because they’re not facts. It’s what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling. Just to have communication, I think, goes a long way in this league.”‘

Never good when player and coaches aren’t talking and the dirty laudry is in the media. If he was complaining about not playing, then that’s just an athlete who wants to play. But to complain about such a lack of communication says something deeper about the coach, team and how things are happening. Wonder what impact if any this is having on Lebron decision when he’s hearing all these kinds of issues about the coach/organization.

    dialogue*** not dialog

    LOL

If I was getting paid $13M to score 10.4PPG shooting .368% from the field I would keep my damn mouth shut. He’s getting too many minutes if anything.
I’m sure Mike is shaking in his booties that Larry will opt out of his contract. Mike is actually doing him a favour by giving him DNP-CDs rather than letting him play 10 to 15 minutes in garbage time, because it boosts his PPG averages.

no Larry ,you ae getting old

“its easy to communicate with a grown man”

then why arent you talking to d’antoni, a grown man, instead of the media?

Because double standards make life interesting, Riggs.

  • riggs

    it sure does my friend

    Larry Hughes sucks.

The Knicks should only draft and sign players who are mute from now on. Then D’Antoni could finally do his job.

  • gnh86

I thought it was common knowledge that D’Antoni rarely talked to any of his playes other than Nash in Phoenix. It was Nash’s job to let other guys know their roles and feeel comfortable.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

D’Antoni IS a jerk, stop defending him. He’s a jack@ss. You can’t tell your players WHY you’re benching them, after playing them for like 20-30 minutes a night? Wow.

  • http://dfinney0415@yahoo.com KR

Co-sign Teddy, why do people defend D’Antoni like he’s had some history of winning and his coaching methods are proven. If he was this big douchebag and he had a ring to show for it, I’m sure we wouldn’t care. Seeing as he doesn’t win ANYTHING, why do people give him a pass? He’s a regular season coach at best.

  • tavoris

    he’s seeming more & more like Nellie’s mini-me.

  • Loqui

I get what Larry is saying… wish he would of waited longer before going to the media. I don’t think he would of racked up DNPs like Nate did, since he is a good passer and can come in for Duhon. You can always count on DuDu sucking. Besides he’s not completely honest here, he did play after injury and was awful. D’Antoni has sticked with veterans to a fault at times. But now Larry has to compete with Nate for his spot.

When you don’t get any burn in a game where you’re team is almost up 50 mid-way through the 3rd quarter, then you can rest assured you’re not going to get burn.

im sure lebron would play if he went to the nets, im sure mike wouldnt bench him…

  • L

Lol tavoris i totally agree. The guy doesn’t seem to have any direction for this ball club..L

  • james

Larry Hughes the Knicks hate you because you are not an expiring contract i would hate you too cause you also suck

  • Trout

Does anyone else remember when this guy was going to be the franchise player over Iverson in Philly. Cocaine is a powerful drug …

  • tavoris

Mike D’Antoni-like Nellie-has no interest in post players…especially the ones that can score inthe post or defend.SN:for all the hate Nash is getting in the Top 10 thread, isn’t it PAINFULLY obvious that Nash made D’Antoni look like a better coach than he really is(as opposed to the other way around)?

  • erich

Hey KR you said that D’Antoni hasn’t accomplished enough to do what he does.
All the Players that moan about him don’t have a championship ring either .
If you look at D’Antoni’s bio you see that he has seen a lot and accomplished a lot as player in Europe and as a coach in the league.

  • erich

To many open microphones in NY.
Hard to build a team if the media likes soap operas .
    Poor fans.

Not the kind of attitude that’s got many players INTO the NBA though, so expecting them to take that attitude once they’re there isn’t really very fair. Also being benched without explaination is a great way to remove a player’s confidence and conditioning – it doesn’t make them better. (Nate’s 41 being all the more exceptional, btw.)

Me and Tavoris don’t usually see eye to eye, but we’re in total agreement about the mini-Nellie thing.

@BRAD – whats funny is when I read your comment, my mind translated mute as, Manute (as in Bol)…

  • Vince

D’Antoni is so overrated. It was Nash all along that made him that money. He’s such a douche bag.
    PLAY EDDDDYYYYY CCCCCUUUUURRRRRYYYYYYYYYY
    lol

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

    what kevin w said

  • MikeC.

The thing about sucking is that the coaches can usually tell, and Larry Hughes, you currently suck. Go suck a lemon and cork your pout hole.

  • MikeC.

Also, D’Antoni seems to have a decent relationship with the players who actually have a snowball’s chance in hell of being on the roster next season. You don’t hear about David Lee, Al Harrington, Chris Duhon, Wilson Chandler or Danilo complaining. Those guys all know they could be on the team next year if they play hard, fit a role and help the team win. Which they are at the moment.

  • tavoris

Mike, Harrington, Danilo, and Chandler are quiet because they have the green light. Duhon is quiet because he’s drunk. Lee actually was trying to get out of dodge all summer long, but found no serious market for his services. None of those players are quiet because of any coaching skill on D’Antoni’s part.

  • Sam Turner

Duhon can any fan, with any knowledge of the game tell me why you play this guy, who has the most minutes on the court this year and can’t average double digits.
    Tonight 36 minutes, 4 points, 4 turnovers
    Robinson, benched for a month
Hughes, plays all December, best Knicks December in over a decade, then you bench him while he watches Duhon start every game this year, play over 30 minutes (with games without a single basket) and you do not expect Hughes or Robinson to be upset? No coach would play a player this poor, the worst stats of any point guard. Hughes, 5 inches taller was in top 5 in steals in the NBA in December, then you DNP him? Hughes played out of position as a point guard and took the Eastern Championship with Cleveland. Only 30, but 12 years in the league. What D’Antonio is doing isn’t going to kill any chance of going deep this year, but one superstar, maybe two, but you need other players and the word is out that this guy plays favorites even if it cost the team a win. That does not fly with players who want to win. Three Knicks players agents have asked for a trade this year, Hughes was not one. Jordon Hill, 8th pick, can’t play. Any top ten pick contibutes their first year. this is a big bust, D”Antonio, Walsh, A coach who only experience is coaching High School (D’Antoni’s brother). WOW, what a story and the New York Press doesn’t see it or read stats and minutes?
2010 is being ruined, no one that can contribute off the bench will play with this type of fav players starting every game. Duhon, shut out, no points with 30 plus minutes. Any other Knick besides Gallo (another overrated DA player, would sit a tad. Get this cat a bus ticket. Patrick, we need you now, buy out DA and the bro.
