NBA Shelves Gilbert Arenas Merchandise

The League won’t be making any money off Arenas while he serves his suspension. (Hell, they might erase him from the record books at this rate.) The Wizards, though, are more than happy to sell you a Gil shirt: “I asked the NBA what this was all about, and I was given this statement: ‘Given the circumstances surrounding his current suspension we do not feel it’s appropriate to continue selling Gilbert Arenas merchandise at the NBA Store or NBAStore.com.’ The same policy has previously been applied to other suspended players, I was told. On the other hand, five of the first six jerseys displayed at the Wizards’ online store are Gilbert’s. (The Wizards’ online store is run by a third party, neither the team nor the NBA.) And while the team store in the Verizon Center famously stopped displaying Gilbert’s jersey, I’m told if you ask for one at the counter, they’re actually still for sale.”

    You Americans are so funny!
But sometimes, like in this case, right!

  • tavoris Posted: Jan.13 at 10:08 am
did they do this to Kobe?

  • pablasso Posted: Jan.13 at 10:22 am
Kobe never got a similar suspension for his trial

  • Marcos Posted: Jan.13 at 10:45 am
No, Kobe could still ball and his contract wasn’t at 86 million, which is the real problem here.
If Gil could still play and had both knees, none of this would’ve happened.

  • riggs Posted: Jan.13 at 11:01 am
well to be fair kobe kept quiet.

  • tavoris Posted: Jan.13 at 11:15 am
jus curious, considering Gilbert hasn’t even been charged with a crime yet.

  • ball4life Posted: Jan.13 at 11:58 am
@Edoardo… you mexicans are so funny. shut the hell up!

  • ball4life Posted: Jan.13 at 12:11 pm
Gilbert is messing up his career. he is one of the best player in the L. and now he might never play in the NBA again. im so disapointed

  • Clockwork Posted: Jan.13 at 12:27 pm

  • ALEX 80 Posted: Jan.13 at 12:35 pm
@ ball4life dont be ignorant…you just show how stupid you are with that dumb comment…this is a basketball blog ,bring your frustration somewhere else.

  • Royal Posted: Jan.13 at 12:35 pm
They should trade him to Washington for their 1st round pick and a couple of players to make the numbers work

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jan.13 at 1:05 pm

what’s funny is that ball4life’s apparent horrible comment is gone, leaving everyones objections to seemingly focus on his harmless comment.

  • Sherif Posted: Jan.13 at 2:18 pm
Come ON!! the NBA’s definitely taken it a bit too far!! What r they gonna do next?? The only thing left is lettin Darko Milicic wear his jersey and play AS Agent ZERO!!

  • Royal Posted: Jan.13 at 2:31 pm

  • tavoris Posted: Jan.13 at 3:36 pm
@NAS-I agree. My high school did the same thing to Michael Vick when the dogfighting ‘ish broke. They took all his trophies and pictures down-as if he hadn’t been there.

balls4life the only thing you’ll ever rock is that tiny pecker between your legs. Please leave.

  • Allenp Posted: Jan.13 at 4:15 pm
No doubt ball4life was wrong, but nobody is upset about random comments denigrating Americans? Come on now, that’s a blatant double standard.
Mexico is country. If it’s okay to say “You Americans are so funny” it should be no big deal to say “You Mexicans are so funny.”
Stop begging for people to get banned.

  • greg1 Posted: Jan.13 at 5:31 pm
Yeah, ball4life is kinda entertaining. why would you want to bann him? Haha. Yeah why is it okay for him to say “you americans” and not “you mexicans” i mean come on its not a big deal. stop being cry babies everyone

  • unrel Posted: Jan.13 at 5:58 pm
now Agent 0 set off a race war.. good one, gil…

  • tavoris Posted: Jan.13 at 7:35 pm
heck..ball4life>that greek guy, so he’s all good

  • Joe_Sixpack Posted: Jan.13 at 9:43 pm
This is crazy!!! granted he did something wrong but the NBA and are acting like he killed someone, I bet you that if he was having a steller season they wouldn`t have done this

  • MikeC. Posted: Jan.13 at 10:20 pm
The NBA can’t erase Gil’s Bullets throwback from eBay. I copped one a couple days ago. Figured the Bullets jersey fit the scenario.

  • MikeC. Posted: Jan.13 at 10:22 pm
@pablasso – Kobe didn’t catch a suspension because he was never found guilty of a crime. Gil got suspended before the criminal trial because he broke NBA rules. If Kobe had kept a r*pe victim in his locker, Stern would have rained the flames of fury on him too.

  • Jukai Posted: Jan.13 at 10:29 pm
What the hell did Ball4Life just do? Someone said “you stupid Americans” and he said “you stupid Mexicans”
Mexico is a country. You guys are f*cking hypocrites.

  • MikeC. Posted: Jan.13 at 10:48 pm
@tavoris – Kobe wasn’t convicted of the crime he was charged with, and didn’t bring it to work like Gil did. If Kobe had r*ped someone in his locker, Stern would have dropped the hammer.

  • Ed Posted: Jan.14 at 12:11 am
why not just put the stuff on clearance?

  • litetitan Posted: Jan.14 at 12:55 am
For the record I don’t think you can get a Jayson Williams jersey either.

  • analord Posted: Jan.14 at 2:10 am
This is not a surprise given that NBA would do ANYTHING to protect its image… for Gil…let’s just say troubles keep rolling his way…it’s about time we hear about how many games he’d be suspended, right?

  • Jonny C Posted: Jan.14 at 4:29 am
why is it ok for people to come on these sites and hate on Americans, but if we say something along the same lines we get burned for it? double standard yo!

  • Waters Posted: Jan.14 at 8:20 am
Does the NBA store have the option of putting your own name on the back of a jersey, ala NFL? If so, I might rock a “John Wayne” Gil jersey.
