Report: Crittenton Was Locked And Loaded

by Lang Whitaker

On the heels of David Stern’s announcement earlier today that Gilbert Arenas would be suspended indefinitely from the NBA, effective immediately, the Washington Post has raised the stakes. While initial reports suggested that Arenas and Wizards teammate Javaris Crittenton had engaged in some sort of Reservoir Dogs face-off, Arenas maintained that it was all a practical joke gone wrong.

Now Mike Wise, writing in the Post, is saying differently:

According to two first-hand accounts of the confrontation, Crittenton responded to Arenas’s action — which included laying the four unloaded weapons in Crittenton’s cubicle with a note that read, “Pick One” — by brandishing his own firearm, loading a clip of ammunition into the gun and cocking the weapon.

Two of the five people in the room that morning, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Arenas had originally not disclosed Crittenton’s action to protect the little-used guard from prosecution and had told Crittenton he would assume full responsibility for the actions of both players that day.

In a two-hour interview with the district attorney on Monday, Arenas, in his version of the story, spoke of Crittenton’s loaded gun, a person with knowledge of Arenas’s testimony said, adding that the player was expressly told by attorneys not to lie under oath.

In a text message to the Post, Crittenton denied the allegations, saying: “I have done nothing wrong. Let the investigation process take its course and you will see that. My name is dying in this situation.”

    agreed:this is bad-and getting worse..
one thing i´d put money on though(and i´m talking huge sums-and i´m not even a betting man):there´s been more guns removed from nba locker rooms within the last 96hrs than any of us can imagine..and some guys on roadtrips are probably still sweating to get home on time before anybody searches theirs..if i were working @ an nba facility i´d check on brown paperbags leaving the premises..

I got five bucks says one of the two dudes snitching anonymously is Arenas.

@deshawn: LOCKER SEARCH?! Oh sh*t, bro! distract the principal while I ditch my gat!

@james&co:where did this whole 2nd amendment-thing get you, though?and i´m not talking gil here..with all due respect,a culture based on violence(in many shapes and forms and on many levels)-great points made by allenp in the other thread-nothing really good has ever become of anything involving the use of force-and to all those who say i gotta carry a gun coz evrybody else does-no bro, gotta stop carrying one, then evrybody else might, too.it always starts with YOU:just coz you got the constitutional right to do somethg doesn´t make it a good idea.
to me,if you´re a self-confident grown up even semi-wise(private)person,you´re beyond the need of carrying a gun(obviously unless your job requires you to)
it´s just a crutch for your ego-grow up already.

Crittenton knows it’s over for him. His career was fledgling anyway.

@DallasJ: I posted something Monday, dude.

what a pair of f____g morons these two are – the wiz are probably delighted they can get them off their cap for their idiocy

  • rainman10

I am the only one not calling Arenas a complete idiot. A mistake was made, not the worst thing that has happened in the NBA. Gary Payton used to keep guns in his locker, and I know he wasn’t the only one. I’m not saying that justifies what JC and Gil did, but not many of us know exactly what happened, these guys aren’t bad dudes.

  • tavoris

Javaris Crittendon’s career is over? when did it start?

  • cb 34

It’s all Gil’s fault. Now, Javaris who was trying to land a spot on any nba team is forever screwed. If gil hadn’t pulled any of this crap, Crittenton might still be one of the privileged few to have a spot on an nba team. There are only 400 players blessed enough in this world to make that claim and looks like he’s out of that fraternity. Just ain’t right! Screw Gil, it should always have been Caron’s team!

  • tavoris

    @Cb_34-you caaaaaaaaaaan’t be serious?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Gilbert was trying to stay quiet because he realized that he was the one who escalated the incident by bringing out the guns and welching on a bet. I respect him for that, just like I understand why he said what he said about Javaris at the end. I don’t know if he’s telling the truth, but we shall see.
Javaris was reckless, although he was provoked.
And people who think that bringing guns into the locker room is an isolated thing are only fooling themselves. And people who think that teams don’t “know” about what’s happening, also believe that teams don’t know about the illegal gambling that takes place on team planes.

speaking of cb34, i wonder what the TNT studio is gonna talk about tonight

If you gonna have a gun, you might as well load it. Despite the inherent dangers of a loaded piece, you’re even more of a tool than the typical gun owner if you just carry an empty gun around.

so what your saying is, Javaris was like Gilbert at the 3pt line down 2 with 10 seconds left?

@ Deshawn – that was a great statement there, I agree!

nevermind an nba career, critt is going to jail if this is true. they already have arenas under oath acknowledging the situation and a couple of witnesses who will no doubt be asked to testify. also, displaying guns in someone’s locker and asking him to pick one is a very serious offense. whether the guns were loaded or not does not matter at all from a legal stand point. the threat was real. this is a very big issue that for some reason ppl are trying to downplay.

  • tavoris

Z-giving someone else all of ur guns CAN NOT be construed as a threat. At least it doesn’t seem like it.
