Report: Crittenton Was Locked And Loaded

by Lang Whitaker

On the heels of David Stern’s announcement earlier today that Gilbert Arenas would be suspended indefinitely from the NBA, effective immediately, the Washington Post has raised the stakes. While initial reports suggested that Arenas and Wizards teammate Javaris Crittenton had engaged in some sort of Reservoir Dogs face-off, Arenas maintained that it was all a practical joke gone wrong.

Now Mike Wise, writing in the Post, is saying differently:

According to two first-hand accounts of the confrontation, Crittenton responded to Arenas’s action — which included laying the four unloaded weapons in Crittenton’s cubicle with a note that read, “Pick One” — by brandishing his own firearm, loading a clip of ammunition into the gun and cocking the weapon.

Two of the five people in the room that morning, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Arenas had originally not disclosed Crittenton’s action to protect the little-used guard from prosecution and had told Crittenton he would assume full responsibility for the actions of both players that day.

In a two-hour interview with the district attorney on Monday, Arenas, in his version of the story, spoke of Crittenton’s loaded gun, a person with knowledge of Arenas’s testimony said, adding that the player was expressly told by attorneys not to lie under oath.

In a text message to the Post, Crittenton denied the allegations, saying: “I have done nothing wrong. Let the investigation process take its course and you will see that. My name is dying in this situation.”

Damn… this is pretty serious. Why don’t people think sometimes about potential circustamnces when engaging in such actions? I don’t get it.

    This is insane.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com DP

this is getting too crazy now for me to even stomach. If this is true, I want Jarvis sitting at his house in the next couple of days watching the games from his tv instead of the f#cking sideline. play wit it.

Can’t wait for Gilbert’s next Twitter session. not so funny ha ha now is it, Hibachi?

  • http://www.mauricegarland.com Maurice Garland

this is starting to get down right sad.

  • http://www.luketynan.blogspot.com litetitan

So IF Crittendon also had a gun in the arena, it’s within the agreement for him to also lose his contract and be removed from the NBA.

  • nastierthanu

Its all al sharpton’s fault. This is a excellent example of how fast things can go wrong.

  • blackonblack

lol at darksaber! good one! on a more serious note, crittentons lawyer needs to get assasinated along with stern: “For all I know it was a squirt gun”. Also, if your cousin suggests they are going to shoot you in the kneecap and you’re standing next to a locker with your own unloaded gold plated guns inside, common sense dictates that its joke time

I’d written half of a post about Gilbert when all this broke. Changes everything if it’s correct.

  • http://www.mybleedingfingertips.blogspot.com/ Myles Brown

If Gil was really gonna take the heat for Javaris to the point of perjury, then hes a stand up dude.

  • http://www.mybleedingfingertips.blogspot.com/ Myles Brown

    Me too Lang.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

I was wondering where you were, Lang. Can’t wait to read your thoughts. (you too Brown, even though you know, you hate my guts)

  • http://www.mybleedingfingertips.blogspot.com/ Myles Brown

hate your guts is such a strong phrase. I certainly wouldnt pull a gun on you.

  • Jose

Co sign Brown @ 11:22. gosh, this situation is all F’d up

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariqُُ

This is definitely a knuckle-headed thing to do. I just hope Gil doesn’t lose everything over it. I don’t think he should.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Nothing will probably happen to JCritt because his gun was loaded. As we’ve learned from the past, according to David Stern, loaded guns on a plane or anywhere else–like a locker room–isn’t dangerous at all. But an unloaded one poses a far more serious threat to everyone. And if you have four unloaded guns? Well, to David Stern, you’re a Menace II Society and you gats ta go!

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Locked and loaded?? Man, every time I check the news, this situation gets more and more unbelievable. I’m shaking my head at the nonsense that went on in that locker room.

  • MikeC.

All of a sudden, Shawn Kemp’s 87,000 bastards and Derrick Coleman’s “Whoop-de-damn-doo” seem like the golden age of the NBA.

  • http://www.euroleagueadventures.com Nick Gibson

I fully expect Pau Gasol to be suspended indefinitely for setting these events into motion.

  • MikeC.

If Javaris did have a loaded gun in the locker room, then I think his NBA career is done.
LOL at Bryan Crawford. We’ve been going back and forth in the other Gil N’ Gunz thread, valid points on both sides, but that one made me crack up for some reason. “gats ta go!” Well played.

  • MikeC.

What is this world coming to? A man can’t even brandish a loaded and cocked handgun at work any more? Thanks a lot al-Qaeda.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Haha, nice one Myles. Well played.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com DP

If this is true and Javaris’ career isn’t over then this will be the biggest moment of F#ckery for the Nba in a longgggg time. play wit it.

  • http://coco-vents.blogspot.com Co Co

If Gil was trying to take the heat for Javaris to the point of perjury, then he’s even stupider than I first thought. Come on man. I mean, come on. I’d think twice about perjuring myself and risking jail time for my immediate family, so taking the heat for a teammate/coworker damn sure isn’t an option. But, that’s just me. Gil has way more to lose than J and isn’t the person who has the least to lose the one who’s supposed to take the charge anyway??? This is just getting silly and I’m going to go ahead and not pay attention to this story anymore.

  • MikeC.

@Co Co – I concur. As we waste our time on this, there’s a bigger story afoot. The Clippers are up 13 on the Lakers.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Co Co, you’ll go ahead and try…. but it will follow you…oh, follow you the story will.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Those two anonymous people in the locker room who snitched? Boooh. Gil shoulda pistol whipped y’all

  • Ricky G

    ♣♣♣ dayum I swear GIL has A.D.H.D. ♣♣♣

  • James

there is never any reason to load a gun unless ur life is in danger javaris hopefully the story isnt true because javaris could end up getting in more trouble than gilbert. im still in shock that a simple joke even though it was a bad one could cause two men their careers. i hope it doesnt and neither of them should be suspended until the actual truth comes out

  • James

well javaris cant be suspended he doesnt even play lol

  • http://dsjfhklf.com Jukai

    Holy… sh*t….
I… I don’t know what even to believe anymore

  • MikeC.

@James – Gil admitted to having the guns in the locker room, which warrants the suspension and the potential voiding of his contract. Both the suspension and the voiding of the contract will be contested by the union. Arenas and Crittendon has professional protection via their union. They also have legal protection because they both have a lot of money(for now) and can afford fantastic lawyers. They’ll be alright. It’s not like they’re regular joes who are federally f*cked.

  • MikeC.

Gil and Javaris won’t be on MSNBC Lockdown any time soon.

  • http://dsjfhklf.com Jukai

MikeC: If this story is true, Javaris Crittendon is going to jail dude. There is no way around it. That’s violating federal gun laws in our nation’s capitol, PLUS intimidation and threats with a firearm. There is no amount of money in the world that will get him off if it’s true, nothing outside of the FBI burning a Javaris puppet or the prosecutor wearing a Cavaliers jersey…

  • MikeC.

@Jukai – true. I’ve been drinking for a bit and I’m starting to lose track of my points. Hopefully Javaris’ gun was registered and he had all the appropriate permits to carry and conceal a handgun in DC. If that’s the case, he might have a chance at probation. His NBA career is probably over though. Whatever happens to Gil, it’s going to be worse for Javaris since his gun was allegedly loaded, and he allegedly cocked and pointed it. That’s bad news bears for all involved.

  • James

this whole situation is just stupid none of this would be happening if they lived in texas and thats a damn shame if the 2nd amendment says we have the right ot bear arms then that should apply to every state. but thats just me opinion i know plenty of ppl will disagree

  • http://slamonline.com Mo Money Bizzes

And on top of everything else, Gil’s a snitch!

  • http://www.mybleedingfingertips.blogspot.com/ Myles Brown

Critt will be fine since the case wont hold up without an actual gun, which he wisely disposed of. If this is all true, of course. Gil is still the only one in trouble.

  • TDOT

T-Mac planted the guns. It’s always his fault.

  • http://www.twitter.com/JoshElam JE

    Myles: Seriously?

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

Always strapped when I hit the club
N!ggas gimmie daps, b!tches gimmie hugs
    And since I’m paid
N!ggas be mugging me, I be muggin back

  • snasty10

lol @ T-Dot. I feel kind of bad for 0 this is some serious stuff. You would think athletes would learn from Plaxico’s mistake.

I was starting to wonder if Lang still worked here.. we miss you man.. slamonline needs Lang back posting it is falling off

  • http://sevendeu2u.wordpress.com/ Seven Duece

Why would Javaris need a loaded gun inside the Arena is all I want to know. Oh and why did Hibachi have FOUR?!! In your car, is 1 thing, but in your locker?! That’s the stupidest thing ever. At least the Wizards won’t have to pay him anymore, cuz they’ll surely be voiding that bloated contract now.

  • http://seriously.anything.works.here Dave

    I LOLed at MikeC’s Whoop-de-damn-do.

  • http://jayemmbee.blogspot.com ClutchPerformer

so how come arenas is the only one suspended?
the other guy had a gun and was just involved as he was? are they tryna make an example of Gilbert of what happens when big stars dont play nice with stern?

  • JoeMaMa

Can you hear that? Listen closely, now…it’s the sound of 15 former Trail Blazers laughing their asses off at this situation.

  • http://dsjfhklf.com Jukai

Myles: Depends on if Javaris has hid ALL of his guns and evidence he owned guns. There are enough eye witnesses for permits. Hell, if the feds can dig up enough dirt on Javaris’ past in terms of gun usage, I bet they press charges. DC is tough like that.
