The Kings’ Latest New Arena Proposal

So, about moving to Vegas … : ” The National Basketball Association tonight announced its support for a dramatic land-swap proposal to build a new state fairgrounds at the current Arco Arena site in Natomas and a new arena for the Sacramento Kings downtown next to the rail depot. The proposal, involving three prime pieces of Sacramento real estate, is one of seven arena concepts submitted in response to a request from Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson two months ago for help in finding a replacement facility for aging Arco Arena … The plan calls for a three-part land swap: The state would sell the current Cal Expo site to a development group that would redevelop the property into a mixed-use community. The state, in turn, would take over the existing Arco Arena site in Natomas, now owned by the city and the Kings, and transform it into a modern state fairgrounds and exposition center. And a new Kings arena would go up on city-owned land in the downtown rail yard. NBA representative John Moag said the NBA and the Maloof family, owners of the Sacramento Kings, are backing the proposal because it comes with what has been the missing link in Sacramento arena discussions: financing commitments from two major investment firms.”

I remember when Arco was the most feared arena in the NBA. That feels like forever ago.

Isn’t arco only like 20 years old? Since when is that old? Boston garden was around for like 70 years and msg is over 40 years old…why do they have to keep replacing these places when they aren’t even that old?

Arco was built in the 80′s and the roof was a temporary structure. Basically it is a piece of sh!t and always has been.

do it just build the thing. It’s good to see fans at kings games that’s how it’s supposed to be. now trade kevin martin he’s nog gonna win games for em. the combination evans greene is more productive then martin evans

  • underdog

All right, let me correct myself. By the time the new arena is complete, I hope the Kings will have a proper playoff team. And, yes the young core is promising (Evans = ROY, imho).

I like it, but I can’t see the city wanting to build a new fairground at Arco, its in the middle of nowhere. But thought I’d run this by some guys here, what do you think of this trade: Martin and Hawes to the Wizards for Butler McGee and maybe a draft pick?
