Will Nash Overtake T-Mac in ASG Votes?

We’ll have the answer tonight, but in the meantime, all of Phoenix is preparing itself to get royally mad if Steve gets screwed over by the fans: “It would be a traveshamockery if Nash did not make up 2,375 votes, the margin he trailed McGrady for the starting job when the last voting returns were announced two weeks ago. All-Star starters will be announced on TNT at 5 p.m. Thursday night before the Lakers-Cavaliers game. ‘Is that tomorrow?’ Nash asked facetiously. ‘I’m not going to be able to sleep tomorrow. The truth of it is that it would be a huge honor to start, no matter how much I joke about it and no matter how much it’s not the most important thing in life. It is an honor to be recognized. So if it happens, I’ll be forever thankful. But if it doesn’t, my day would not be ruined.”‘

This is ridiculous. Nash should be starting regardless. Stupid fans.

  • Yesse

    I certainly hope so.

  • tavoris

Jukai-in short, every starting guard in the WC, as well as every productive backcourt bench player should start over T-Mac.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

China somehow found a way to make Yao start all 5 positions on West squad, and Yi Jialian in the east…It will be an epic battle and the losing team will be executed.

  • http://myspace.com/showbread Bryan

I’m a huge tmac fan but come on… although on the other hand it would be funny if he went out and played and dominated and made the rockets look like fools for benching him.

  • ball4life

Is O.J Mayo an All Star?

  • riggs

    he’s not even an half-star

  • http://hotmail.com ezra

the fact is t-mac is skillwise one of the best players in the leaugue, the only SG more skilled than him are kobe and wade.. so its not surprising that fans want to see t-mac play considering they havent seen him play at all this year

ps, i voted t-mac every day

  • ball4life

O.j’s a good player. He’s as good as Nasch

  • ball4life

O.j’s a good player. He’s as good as Nash

  • ball4life

    I mean Nash..

  • ball4life

    Nash, i mean

  • http://hotmail.com ezra

oj mayo as good as 2 time mvp steve nash yes i see how you can definitly compare the two

  • fizzrocket

He BETTER. Freaking Ty Lawson should start over T-Mac.

  • onions baby onions

hahaha wayno, i honestly wouldn’t be surprised the way things are goin the past few years

  • Coconut

tmac said if he’s voted to start, he’ll step down. I wonder if he’ll actually do that if he’s voted in. It would be the right thing to do. Even Gaines is more worthy of an allstar spot than t-mac…

  • http://www.clutchfans.com/ Blue

Hell…they could start Clyde Drexler over T-Mac and I wouldn’t be upset

  • http://slamonline.com d.j.

i hope t-mac starts ! just to f**k all yall’s sh*t up… further more i hope he dominates and goes for 30, now that would be some sh*t… he had like a month and a half to get in shape and work on his game…

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

    haha Blue

  • Ree Roe

@ Ezra, so T-Mac plays in less than 10 games, but in your world he’s deserving of a starting spot on this year’s All Star team? Interesting…

  • ENDS

Of course he will. The NBA where rigging the All-star votes happens

  • Young C

If they Stern could rig it for Chris Paul last year when the margin was much wider, then David Stern can rig it this year for Steve Nash with a 2000+ margin

  • dw24

stephen jackson is in charlotte jukai. are you even watching the nba?

  • http://www.twitter.com/dominicderose dlouis

I wouldn’t be surprised if they give the vote total to T-Mac so they have an excuse to change the voting for next year. If it goes to Nash, the NBA will say something like, “see, fan voting works, if you give it enough time, the right players will be voted in.” They have no option but to change if T-Mac gets it.

  • ab_40

y’all are a couple of naggers. and jukai stephen jackson plays with charlotte start watchin games kid. ramon sessions isn’t even getting minutes in minnesota. I think it’s not only chinese people voting for Tmac. I voted on him to make a point haha that this is a popularity contest. And I think a healthy D-Will is currently the best pg in the nba. too bad no one ever wins ANYTHING in utah. and AI will probably start as well. If they’d just have a minimum games played rule like 30 or 35 games there would be no problems at all. minimums of 28 mpg and at least 30 to 35 games that would be better then this

  • http://slamonline.com Wayno

I voted for T-Mac, Allen Iverson, Yao Ming, and Yi Jian Lian, and I’m a wh!te r@cist! Straight outta Wyoming, with my Hollister and Abercrombie gear ready to kick it old school in the ol’ trailer park. Nah mean?

  • http://slam KeLLeN

why ya’ll gettin worked up about this all-star game??
it’s not a very big deal, considering these athletes get paid thousands of dollars…a couple of votes ain’t gonna hurt em’…they got the life..hahaa.
plus, if the NBA lets the fans decide the teams, it shows how its just for fun. but i agree, nash should be way up in the tallys.

  • http://slamonline.com Wayno

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Right Wayno, because Yao is totally eligible for voting and you are a stupid r3dneck. Only, one of those is true.

  • UnRel

just starting 4 western all stars is better than T-mac starting.. besides.. i thought it was required that a player had to appear in a few games prior to the ASG to be able to play?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

F you teddy, what’s up your @$$ today?

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

haha hate to pile on Jukai about the Charlotte thing, but it’s funny because I remember you using the exact, “do you guys even watch basketball?” line in many arguments in these parts.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

Semi-related note: Damn, the Bobcats are balling.

  • tavoris

@tealish-Stephen Jackson completely changed their team (in a good way)

  • wilz

someone shoulda hacked EZRA’s comp b4 he could do so much damage

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Okay that was a little harsh, Wayno. No hard feelings. We’ll call it even.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

By the way, Yao IS eligible for voting even if he’s injured. So one of those IS true. There!

  • ball4life

Mayo is just as talented as Steve Nash

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

Teddy, it ain’t even. Your white bashing is getting a little annoying. Wayno was making a joke that even a f*cking toddler could tell meant no harm to anyone. Stop overreacting like a little baby and typing out racially asinine remarks.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

By the way, Yao IS eligible for voting even if he’s injured. So one of those IS true. There!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Freaking double posts.

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

And relax guys, I copied and pasted that list from a website with eligible western guards. It wasn’t updated. Gimme a break here =p

  • http://theurbangriot.com/ NUPE

If the fans vote him he should start – simple as that. The fans are instructed to vote for their favorite player, which does not mean best/most productive etc. You could argue that about half the starters shouldn’t be if it was based on who is perceived as the best. It’s clear that T-mac would not make anybody’s mid-season all NBA team, but if he’s a fan favorite he should start. And NO, I did not vote for him.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

The 3:24 post clearly was not me…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

The All-Star game is meant for fans so I don’t see why people take the voting so d@mn seriously.
Side note: There’s nothing wrong with Yao getting votes when he’s healthy because HE IS THE BEST CENTER IN THE WEST (and the rest). It astounds me when people complain about Chinese fans voting for Yao, when he clearly is the best. White fans vote for him. Black fans vote for him. Hispanic fans vote for him. There’s a city called HOUSTON, with FANS who vote for their team’s PLAYERS. Marcus Camby can complain all he wants but Yao has always been the better player.
The only real messed up part about voting is Deron Williams hasn’t made a squad yet–but that has as much to do with the coaches as it does with the fans, even more.
Besides that, I’m voting for Allen Iverson. And Deron Williams.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

or 3:21…geez teddy, you double posted under my name?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

T-Mac is voted in by fans not only in China but everywhere as well. He’s a tremendously popular player worldwide, AND in America. Shiiet, if he makes it he makes it.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I thought they hadn’t posted, Wayno. Sorry.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Okay I’m out. Peace. Wayno, we were just joking around I get it–no hard feelings. All good.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

It’s all good I guess…I’m not knocking Chinese people, Yao, or Yi Jianlian…just messin around.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I know I know. I’m not knocking white people either, its all good.

  • ENDS

I guaran-$heed Steve Nash will be the starting point guard announced tonight on TNT

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Aren’t Deron Williams and Chris Paul better than Nash? Won’t it be a worse travesty if Nash makes the all-star team and Williams doesn’t yet again, despite being better than Nash the past two or three years?

  • Hawkules

It’s interesting how the naysayers forget that Magic Johnson was voted in as the starting point guard the year he retired. Had that not been done then we would not have seen one of the greatest moments in All Star history occur.

Give the man a break, I say give the fans what they want I mean he can start that does not necessarily mean that he will get minutes.

  • http://myspace.com/brandnew bryan

Allenp , The suns and Nash are playing better than Williams and a Jazz team that has arguably more talent. I like Williams but I’ve never been as high on him as most of you have been.

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

Allenp: Uh, I’m sure you’ll take this with a grain of salt because I’m a Suns fanatic, but Nash (while CLEARLY inferior to the two) has been outplaying them this year pretty hardcore.
Paul and Nash are statistically equal but Nash has ten more games and even more Ws
Deron has just been worse statistically

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

Bryan: I’m with you. Williams is GREAT but people are way too high on him. He’s not that much better than Nash and he’s NOWHERE near the level of Paul.

  • http://myspace.com/brandnew bryan

For all the talk about how much better Deron is than Paul its always been a shooter thing and Paul is shooting better this season and is roughly equal over a career and aside from defense Nash is a better player. In my opinion. Paul is clearly head and shoulders talent wise above them but Nash is next in line then Deron with Rondo hot on his heels.

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

Well I’d put Billups over Rondo, but I can feel ya. I still say Deron is probably slightly better. He’s much better defensively, and I think he’s closer to Nash offensively than the stats show… he plays a slower game, after all.
Deron impressed me more when he was getting play calls from coach Sloan.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Deron is better than Nash and VERY close to Chris Paul. Its a reasonable argument to say Deron is better, too, though some will obviously disagree. Deron Williams is probably not going to make the All-Star game yet again, but he deserves it.

  • Jack

Well there we go, Nash made it. Looks like another All-Star snub for Deron, unless he gets in as the 12th man, so that in turn would probably mean no Kaman? Ah well, they got it right in the West starters. KG and AI obviously are a bit iffy in the East. Chris Bosh ain’t gonna be happy haha. Also, I read on the official release, that this is Melo’s first time as a starter, it’s his second though isn’t it? He and Iverson both started as Nuggets 2 years ago.

  • Jack
  • gani

i don’t know what the nba did, but duncan’s starting again for the nth straight time. i think this is some sort of nba record?

  • http://slamonline.com dmonz

steve should have started last year too.

  • Justin

True dat dmonz. Hawkules, you’re not seriously comparing the Magic Johnson situation with this TMac debacle are you?
At least the fan/NBA vote riggers got it right. Anyone who voted for Iverson or TMac is a moron, plain and simple. Why would you ever want to vote someone in who’s not nearly in game shape and is even questionable whether he’ll be able to do the same things that made him so popular in the first place. I don’t see TMac coming down the middle, throwing the ball off the backboard to himself and dunking it in traffic like he’s done a few times. 100% there should be a minimum games played rule but I’d put it more around 20-25 or so.
The West starters got it right, the East missed at least two of them. That’s what’s sad about letting the fans vote. Everyone knows KG should not be the starter. Even KG knows that Bosh has vastly outplayed him this year. Some of you do know that there are incentive clauses for making the All Star team right? You want to rip a player off because you’d rather watch someone else that you remember being very good? Like I said…morons

  • WOODY

It’s not who’s better, it’s who’s more entertaining. It’s a show. I voted for Nash and Shaq. I have no interest in a guy named Deron who I’ve never seen play.

  • therighttoremainsalient

well woody – you have the internet. you could quite easily find any number of highlights or game play of Deron Williams. It’s your own fault for remaining ignorant to the one of the best PG’s (top5) in the NBA today.

  • Sour Milk

Nash is deserving. And now that he’s in it’s the end of discussion. This season i’d say Nash/Paul, Williams, Billups, Rose, Rondo, Parker are the top PG’s in that order. Williams won’t be snubbed. The backups should be: G: Paul, Williams. F: Durant, Nowitzki. C: Gasol Wild cards: Billups, Roy. Randolph, Kaman and Ellis have been good but noone can seriously say they deserve it over the mentioned 7.
