Will Nash Overtake T-Mac in ASG Votes?

We’ll have the answer tonight, but in the meantime, all of Phoenix is preparing itself to get royally mad if Steve gets screwed over by the fans: “It would be a traveshamockery if Nash did not make up 2,375 votes, the margin he trailed McGrady for the starting job when the last voting returns were announced two weeks ago. All-Star starters will be announced on TNT at 5 p.m. Thursday night before the Lakers-Cavaliers game. ‘Is that tomorrow?’ Nash asked facetiously. ‘I’m not going to be able to sleep tomorrow. The truth of it is that it would be a huge honor to start, no matter how much I joke about it and no matter how much it’s not the most important thing in life. It is an honor to be recognized. So if it happens, I’ll be forever thankful. But if it doesn’t, my day would not be ruined.”‘

I thought they hadn’t posted, Wayno. Sorry.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Okay I’m out. Peace. Wayno, we were just joking around I get it–no hard feelings. All good.

It’s all good I guess…I’m not knocking Chinese people, Yao, or Yi Jianlian…just messin around.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I know I know. I’m not knocking white people either, its all good.

  • ENDS

I guaran-$heed Steve Nash will be the starting point guard announced tonight on TNT

Aren’t Deron Williams and Chris Paul better than Nash? Won’t it be a worse travesty if Nash makes the all-star team and Williams doesn’t yet again, despite being better than Nash the past two or three years?

  • Hawkules

It’s interesting how the naysayers forget that Magic Johnson was voted in as the starting point guard the year he retired. Had that not been done then we would not have seen one of the greatest moments in All Star history occur.

Give the man a break, I say give the fans what they want I mean he can start that does not necessarily mean that he will get minutes.

Allenp , The suns and Nash are playing better than Williams and a Jazz team that has arguably more talent. I like Williams but I’ve never been as high on him as most of you have been.

Allenp: Uh, I’m sure you’ll take this with a grain of salt because I’m a Suns fanatic, but Nash (while CLEARLY inferior to the two) has been outplaying them this year pretty hardcore.
Paul and Nash are statistically equal but Nash has ten more games and even more Ws
Deron has just been worse statistically

Bryan: I’m with you. Williams is GREAT but people are way too high on him. He’s not that much better than Nash and he’s NOWHERE near the level of Paul.

For all the talk about how much better Deron is than Paul its always been a shooter thing and Paul is shooting better this season and is roughly equal over a career and aside from defense Nash is a better player. In my opinion. Paul is clearly head and shoulders talent wise above them but Nash is next in line then Deron with Rondo hot on his heels.

Well I’d put Billups over Rondo, but I can feel ya. I still say Deron is probably slightly better. He’s much better defensively, and I think he’s closer to Nash offensively than the stats show… he plays a slower game, after all.
Deron impressed me more when he was getting play calls from coach Sloan.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Deron is better than Nash and VERY close to Chris Paul. Its a reasonable argument to say Deron is better, too, though some will obviously disagree. Deron Williams is probably not going to make the All-Star game yet again, but he deserves it.

  • Jack

Well there we go, Nash made it. Looks like another All-Star snub for Deron, unless he gets in as the 12th man, so that in turn would probably mean no Kaman? Ah well, they got it right in the West starters. KG and AI obviously are a bit iffy in the East. Chris Bosh ain’t gonna be happy haha. Also, I read on the official release, that this is Melo’s first time as a starter, it’s his second though isn’t it? He and Iverson both started as Nuggets 2 years ago.

i don’t know what the nba did, but duncan’s starting again for the nth straight time. i think this is some sort of nba record?

  • http://slamonline.com dmonz

steve should have started last year too.

  • Justin

True dat dmonz. Hawkules, you’re not seriously comparing the Magic Johnson situation with this TMac debacle are you?
At least the fan/NBA vote riggers got it right. Anyone who voted for Iverson or TMac is a moron, plain and simple. Why would you ever want to vote someone in who’s not nearly in game shape and is even questionable whether he’ll be able to do the same things that made him so popular in the first place. I don’t see TMac coming down the middle, throwing the ball off the backboard to himself and dunking it in traffic like he’s done a few times. 100% there should be a minimum games played rule but I’d put it more around 20-25 or so.
The West starters got it right, the East missed at least two of them. That’s what’s sad about letting the fans vote. Everyone knows KG should not be the starter. Even KG knows that Bosh has vastly outplayed him this year. Some of you do know that there are incentive clauses for making the All Star team right? You want to rip a player off because you’d rather watch someone else that you remember being very good? Like I said…morons

  • WOODY

It’s not who’s better, it’s who’s more entertaining. It’s a show. I voted for Nash and Shaq. I have no interest in a guy named Deron who I’ve never seen play.

  • therighttoremainsalient

well woody – you have the internet. you could quite easily find any number of highlights or game play of Deron Williams. It’s your own fault for remaining ignorant to the one of the best PG’s (top5) in the NBA today.

  • Sour Milk

Nash is deserving. And now that he’s in it’s the end of discussion. This season i’d say Nash/Paul, Williams, Billups, Rose, Rondo, Parker are the top PG’s in that order. Williams won’t be snubbed. The backups should be: G: Paul, Williams. F: Durant, Nowitzki. C: Gasol Wild cards: Billups, Roy. Randolph, Kaman and Ellis have been good but noone can seriously say they deserve it over the mentioned 7.
