Cavs’ Plan B: Corey Maggette?

Should the whole Amar’e thing not work out, Cleveland could end up settling for Corey Maggette: “The Cleveland Cavaliers’ pursuit of Amare Stoudemire continues, but in case they can’t land the Phoenix Suns’ All-Star forward, they have begun talks with the Golden State Warriors about Corey Maggette. Despite their league-high 13-game win streak, the Cavaliers are leaving no stone unturned in attempting to improve their team and bring the city it’s first major sports league championship in 46 years. In addition to speaking to the Washington Wizards regarding Antawn Jamison and the Indiana Pacers regarding Troy Murphy, Cleveland is in discussions with the Warriors about Maggette, according to four sources with knowledge of the talks.”

    I like this move!

  • rav

this would be bad for the cavs – yeah he can score and is a good athlete but is too much of an AND1 player for my liking

  • boy sanchez

I don’t like this move! Why Maggette? He can’t play the same position as Amar’e…!

  • neaorin

Maggette? ugh, he better be plan Z…

I just don’t get Danny Ferry.

Uhm…….he’s a thousand times better than Moon and Parker and a new change of address is probably all he needs to play at a much higher level of efficiency, plus dude can create his own shot off the dribble and score.

Imagine how quickly teams would get into foul trouble between LBJ, Diesel and Maggette.

As a Hawks fan, I would LOVE to see this happen. Maggette is a volume shooter & an ineffective defender. He’ll make CLE worse which helps my Hawks.

Don’t the Cavs have a strong defensive identity? I don’t really remember Maggette playing much D in his career. I understand being interested in somebody like Troy Murphy or Jamison. Those are guys who can blend in on offense and fit into the team D concept by at least trying. Maybe getting Maggette will wreck the season and cost the Cavs a shot at the Finals, which will piss Lebron off and lead to him signing with NY. All of a sudden, I’m all for this trade. Make it happen!!!

  • tatinmalipipi

There’s not enough steps for both him and LeBron

  • A.

    Can he play D?

  • LA Huey

    co-sign T-Money

  • kobesbestfriend

hope mo williams knows his shot attempts will be cut in half if this deal goes down

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

He’d play like a man possessed if he was able to get away from Nellie and that sinking ship of a team.

  • wilz

    “tatinmalipipi” wins

  • rubs93

With 50 the cavs can go small and still bang

    sg-candice parker’s bro
    c-sideshow bob

And still get Big Z back. A nice plan B

I think it’s more like plan D if all else fails. Cavs want to improve NOW and in a buyer’s market. They’ll do something.

  • Kendrick is God

    why the hate on maggs?

  • witness23

I don’t like this move as much as STAT. Maggette is a great athlete but he’s been in that scoring and no defense mentality for way too long to expect him to pick up defensively in time to help the cavs win a title this year…STAT has showed signs of a capable defender, and if not he’s still unstoppable on the offensive end which could only help the cavs. Maggette is scoring good but the warriors avg like 110 ppg, he’s gna get his buckets there. What happened to the Iguodala rumors he should be on the top of their list

  • andrew

@witness23 I agree! I been saying for ages Iguodala was born to be LBJ’s Scottie Pippen. They dont need to worry about the power forward spot cos going big caused the lakers probs and Powe will be back soon to add some depth at the 4. At least with Iggy if LBJ is on the bench they have someone who can defend, create shots and finish in traffic and doesnt completely disappear when the it matters most.

  • witness23

Exactly he’s capable of avg 15 5 5 as a number 2 option with the cavs and that’s not to mention what he does at the defensive end. Two freaks of nature on the same team, I could only imagine what iguodala would become under his wing.

  • Jack

Do it Mr. Ferry, it will f*ck all good things in your franchise, besides LeBron. Bring in tunnel-vision Maggette-o’s!

Although this still should be plan D, behind Jamison, Amare and Murphy.

    Ferry – I choose you!
    Use “smokescreen”
    It’s super effective!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Not a bad move at all. Corey Maggette is a hugely underrated scorer. He can get to the rim at will and he draws fouls like they’re nothing. If the Cavs got him they’d be instantly better. The Cavs desperately need another player who can create for himself; if it isn’t LeBron dishing the ball out guys are just standing there watching him. Maggette is kind of like Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson, good teammates, all have the skills needed to play 2-4, consistent and important players for their teams, and gifted scorers who are constantly underrated no matter where they go. And organizations like to treat them as expendable when incompetent management can’t find them any help.

@Anton – he’s just trying to catch em all ok?

  • Jacob (from Australia)

Why is this considered such a bad move? Maggette is averaging almost 20 points in GS (Yes, this would drop but it shows he has the ability) and his defense isn’t that much worse than say Jamario Moon. We don’t need Amare because Powe is coming back soon anyway. Plus Maggette gets to the line like crazy! Which means bye bye playing time for Dwight, Bynum & other centers we face in the playoffs. I say why not?

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

I don’t get why everyone is talking about how the Cavaliers need dudes who can create for themselves but still want the Cavaliers to get Amare or Murphy. Isn’t Jamison the PERFECT option?

  • http://theurbangriot.com/ NUPE

This would not be a bad move. I’d like to see them with Stat or Jamison, but Maggette is an upgrade from Hickson, Moon or Parker (or any of the other likely suspects to be involved in this trade). Where Stat/Jamison make them clear favorites in the east, Mag just makes them incramentally better – but not a ‘lock’ for the east. For the Cavs, doing something is better than doing nothing as long as they keep the core in tact.

I would see Magette replacing Parker as starting 2. Lebron would enforce passing and not shotjacking. I still think West should start at two. Anyway, Magette is clearly a last option and may be more for show than go.
