DeMar DeRozan’s ‘Thrilling’ Dunk Contest Plans

DeMar reportedly plans to channel his inner Michael Jackson this weekend: “Michael Jackson may be the difference in this year’s NBA Slam Dunk Contest — TMZ has learned that one of the participants is planning to incorporate a tribute to MJ during one of his dunks. TMZ spoke with Toronto Raptors star DeMar DeRozan who told us he will definitely be using elements from ‘Thriller’ when he throws down in Dallas on Saturday night.”

So, he is going to go straight for props… great.

    Why kill the surprise?

lets not hope he pulls a Dwight and comes out of a telephone booth…or better yet me might see a dancing zombie throw down…that really would be a first.

  • Buschfire

idunno but enough with the hate, I look forward to it, and I’m sure DeMar will please the crowd with some nasty dunks.

    dunkin in a werewolf costume?

  • rob

Lame, totally lame. I’m sick of those fcking props. Shannon will do it old school and win the contest. DeRozan can moonwalk if he wants to, but Brown’s gonna dunk that damn ball hard

  • Son of Shawn

Well, I know that All-Star it´s a party and it has to be fun, but I don´t wanna see more weird costumes, Vince Carter didn´t need a Phone Booth to shock us in 2000

Demar will do the Thriller dance. He recently mentioned on his twitter that he really knows how to do it, without mentioning dunking.

I want the dunk contest to be what it used to be. I just want to see players get the f’in ball jump far from the basket, get high off the ground, and throw it down with power. Desmond Mason used to get near 50s on a simple left-handed tomahawk where he jumped 10ft from the basket, kicked his legs like a maniac and almost took the rim down. That’s what i wanna see

I don’t care what nobody does as long as nobody abuses a child…

i think it was a bad move giving away his surprise. I think part of the reason dwight won it the first time cuz everyone was surprised and excited when he came out with a superman shirt and cape.i enjoy the props, but i hope it comes with some substance an purpose.

  • Michael

without props, what else can they legitimately do that hasnt been done?

  • barnabusb

@Michael: Check out that top 100 dunks of all time video on YouTube. There’s a tonne of crazy stuff in there that hasn’t even been attempted in an NBA dunk contest before. Guys need to leave the props at home and just bring real dunks. How is dancing going to make his dunk better? Maybe he’ll prove me wrong, but I’m going in with low expectations.

  • Tim

i havent seen the statue of liberty dunk in a long time. let alone the 360 statue of liberty dunk. there’s still kissing the rim, dunking twice in one jump. i’ve never seen anyone do a flat footed dunk (no running start). off the bounce stuff might be getting old, but it still makes regular dunks look way better…lots of possibilities without props.

The dunk contest is too much about ridiculous acting and not about the dunks

  • cool j

being a Toronto cat ,I want DeRozan to do well but I have low expectation, I think his dunking ability is overrated. He has the bad habit of missing dunks in games hitting the ream etc…He is good young player, but Vince Carter…he is not!

  • MattM

The best Jacko dunk would be a 360 with a crotch grab.

  • Kent Kanada

DeRozan will undergo a surgery before the competition that makes him white and decreases his vertical 8 inches. THRILLER!

  • dyyhard

dangle a prop baby on the rim and then dunk it 360 with a scissor kick.

  • Rusty

to be fair, purely in dunking terms, no one has been on vince’s level since he won it. The closest was probs Jrich, but vince still had him covered hands down in their prime. You cant expect one of these cats to come out and shock us like vince did when none of them can even compare to his dunking ability.

idk why evrybody mad at props and this that and the other i just wanna enjoy the dunk contest and the creativity

  • nastierthanu2

Dunking in a werewolf costume wouldn’t be giving props to Michael Jackson, it would be giving props to Michael J. Fox. The wolf was a 1st round draft pick by the way.

thats awesome…id actually make it a point to watch it now just to see what he’s gonna do

  • MikeC.

RaptorsTV is showing all the old dunk contests from the 90s, and there was some pretty weak crud in those ones as well. The contest goes through some ups and downs until somebody like Vince comes along and blows the doors off. Stuff that was being done in dunk contests back then is now being done in games. I’m watching the 94 contest now. JR Rider came with the East Bay Funk through the legs in 94 and the roof came off, which gave birth to Kobe, JRich and Vince’s great dunks. Somebody will do something dope this year, but it’ll be very hard to beat Vince’s 2000 performance.

You guys all need to watch this:

It’s gonna be great to watch GWallace win the dunk contest.

  • http://www.behindtheb.blogspot.com Sam Raphael Chadwick

Bascially he is going to do exactly the same dunks as vince and prove to everyone that he is the same as vince if he does that he will win.

however I still think Shannon Brown is gunna win.

he should put a carter jersey on on to a huge foul line dunk
