Ray Allen Trade Rumors Refusing to Die

Ray’s name keeps getting batted around in trade chatter, something that his GM finds quite amusing: “For what it’s worth, Danny Ainge seemed genuinely perplexed yesterday at further reports the Celtics [team stats] are trying to trade Ray Allen. The general manager laughed at a couple of the rumors and was trying to understand how some that have been knocked down from both sides continue to get play. Ainge repeatedly has put off questions about the coming offseason and how much change there could be in the C’s roster, but he was pointed with regard to the current campaign. ‘Let me just put it this way: We’re doing everything we can to win a championship now,’ Ainge said. “We’re not going to do anything that might hurt our chances of winning. There’s no question we need to play better, but we’re not going to panic.”’

Ray Allen & Rondo were the only two that actually came out and played with the Lakers.
Allen defending Kobe was a good match-up and it proved that Ray Ray is not just a shooter.
IF Celtics are dealing they should deal Pierce.
I don’t understand why in crunch time the plays are done for Pierce who did not score in those occasions since the Bulls series( 7 or 8 times he completely gone wrong since then ).
Ray Ray should have been an all star not Paul.

They wouldnt need to trade Ray-Ray they just need to improve at the back up guard position wither in the draft or now. Luther Hudson should still be with them he was a good guy. he now has his career high with memphis which he scored in 6 mins 6 seconds

Ray Allen is great. He just needs to shoot the ball more. Some nights he’s lucky to even take over 6-8 shots in the game, which is small in comparison to the average SG that he plays against.

For someone that can shoot as well as he can he needs more shot opportunities. Celtics are great in the way they’ve got so many options.

It’s great to see that this team thrives on Team ball though and not a player that jacks it up every time he touches it.

The main reason why they’re not as strong this season is because of injuries due to age. With the injuries mounting up even if they get full mobility back from them in the back of their mind they’ll still be worrying about it which will make them hesitate in certain situations. Especially with KG’s knee which I really hope gets 100% as I’m a big KG fan and hope him all the best after so many tough years in the Wolves.

I think the Cav’s have the East this season.

Even though it will never happen, I’ll just throw it in the mix as everybody mentions T-Mac. Bring in T-Mac off the bench.

Houston didn’t take advantage of it so maybe the C’s can. Can play both the 2 and the 3 position.

Won’t ever happen but just to put it out there for Dreamers and since T-Mac is lost in Matrix somewhere.

No compelling reason to hold or trade Ray. He fits team chemistry and still an effective player. Clearly not his former self but that’s partially due to taking many fewer shots as part of the offensive scheme.

Honestly, Paul Pierce will not get traded. Anyone that thinks so is wrong. He’s been the captain for that long. I cant see anyone getting traded on the Celtics to be honest because when making a trade you try to upgrade a certain position. Can you really upgrade from Ray Ray, KG, Pierce, Rondo or Perk? Not really. But the Celtics did get mixed up with trade rumors and they were to trade Rondo and Allen to Detroit for Stuckey, Hamilton and Prince so apparently the celtics think Rondo and Allen aren’t as important as we do to their success

@shem: where did u hear that??

  • ClydeSays

Co sign w/ Sam. Ray & PP’s primary backup, MDaniels has been out a good chunk of the season. That leads to more minutes for both and they’re less effective because of it. The same is true for Rondo. What him to be more consistent? Get him a playmaking backup, not a 2 who can’t shoot (TAllen) or a shooter who can’t defend or pass (EHouse)
If Ainge trades RayRay he’s giving up a player the defense HAS to guard. That just puts more pressure on PP, KG, Perk & Rondo.

  • james

ray for williams and igoudala AND draft picks is the only trade danny should even consider

  • mike

opportunities just aren’t there – he comes off the books this summer for almost 19 m – ride out the season and try to lure another free agent in his place

  • Az

Don’t make sense to trade Ray Ray. Specially since he wants to re-sign there. I doubt anything happens. But if the Celtics did want to get younger, Rudy Fernandez somehow would fit there like a glove!!

  • boogster

he he, those old C`s, whatever happened to their TEAM concept, loyalty, brotherhood, which they like to mention now and then. Ray is one of the greatest shooter actively playing at highest level, and now they want to get rid of him, how are you going to upgrade him? upgrade my backside…

    @ClydeSays

Good point about Marquis Daniels. A lot of people outside of Boston keep forgetting he’s on the team because he has been injured most of the season. If he comes back healthy, he would be the “midseason acquisition” of sorts that they need to give them a jolt. No need to make an actual trade. He will bring down Ray and Paul’s minutes and he can even back up Rondo at PG once in awhile.

Ray is still as good as ever. He might have an off night here and there but everyone does. I actually wish he would shoot more because no one else has been really carrying the load on offense except for Pierce and occasionally Rondo.

House can only dribble with one hand and tries to get rid of it as soon as he gets across half court so he is useless at PG and TAllen is a nightmare. We definitely need a real backup PG but I don’t think it will come in a trade.

I bet we could see Tyron Lue coming off the bench at some point later in the season, especially if Rondo gets hurt. He’s an assistant coach on the C’s bench now so he already knows the offense and probably plays with them once in awhile in practice anyway.

Starting to appreciate that 08 title everyday! Looks like that Celtic curse ( Len Bias, Reggie Lewis, draft day) is starting to bear its ugly head again. Just when I thought we excercised those ugly demons! Damm 2008 just came and went like nobodys business.

IF Doc would play Giddeons or Walker, he would have a replacement SG to come in. Its Doc fault, bad coach with one great season of 3 supposely future HAll of Famers. I still think he can’t coach and I believe they need another coach. Something has to change, because I think they need some new offenseive schemes, because the KG/Perkins moving screen gets call too much now, which loses posessions. Ray Ray for Monta is a great deal or trade him for Micheal Redd. Celtics its over!!!

  • letsmotor

    ray for michael redd?! ha.

“supposedly future hall of famers”? uh…supposedly? those three are shoe-ins.

@riggs…they offered ray and rondo for stuckey, rip, and tayshaun before the season started last year after they won the championship because they werent sure if they could sign rondo longterm, which they eventually were able too. detroit shot that trade down but probably wish they did it now cuz they are garbage and rondo is playing his a$$ off. anyways now that pierce is hurt they are in trouble…

None of the Big 3 are getting traded.
    1) Ray is worth more to the team having re-signed for 6-8 million to start some/6th man some.
    2) PP will die a Celtic.
    3) Garnett is too worn down to build around or be relied upon to push a contender over the top and would have to be traded for some serious youth talent that wouldn’t stack up against his salary and experience. On top of that, he’s pathologically incapable of walking away from the game. He’ll play until he literally can’t walk away.

  • http://slamonline.com Dave

I can see a delicious scenario developing where Pierce loses a step this season to his foot injury and the Celtics realise they have to move him to the second option. And with Ray moving to the bench they’ll need a free agent shooting guard… one who’s tasted the winner’s circle but whose team just can’t seem to build around him.
Of course, that’s just a fantasy.

I am a celtics fan, I think we should try and trade

    RAY RAY for AMARE STOUDEMIRE,

it would make up for KG’s age, and Sheed’s lack of appreciation for the Celt’s Team D strategies.
We all know Pierce and House could hold down the 3ball.
    Just a thought…

  • don

yup, if they give up allen, defenses will have a way of sagging into the middle.

  • http://june7thdonald@netzero.net donlaker

if they get t=mac or antwan jaimson they can shore upmissing leon powe, unless scalabrini is getting better ,and sheed puts up 10 and 10 every night…the celtics wont beat the cavs or atlanta
where is sheldon (mr candice parker) at

  • http://sportzin.com Joey E.

    Nocioni/KMart for Ray

  • http://slamonline.com Dave

Why the hell would Phoenix trade for Jesus for Amare? So they can have the oldest starting five in history?

  • http://philing@hotmail.com Phil

Trade Davis, Scab, House, RAy Ray. Big Baby is too slow to guard 3′s but too short to guard 4′s. Scab is only good for shooting 3s and even then he misses or passes off open ones. House is the opposite. Shoots everything he catches and is too streaky. Need a more consistent player than Ray Ray. Like Pierce, he has too many off nights shooting like 4 from 14. At least Pierce gets to the line enough to rack up 15-20pts. Ray’s lost a step in D and doesnt box out. Trade him if we can get a decent starter. Need another tall rebounder and a scorer at 2
