Washington Interested in T-Mac?

Or, to be more precise, the Wiz’s front-office (like everyone else) is interested in hie expiring contract: “The Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards continue to discuss a possible Tracy McGrady trade in advance of next month’s trading deadline, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources close to the situation, however, insisted Saturday night that no deal is imminent and that both teams continue to talk to other clubs. McGrady was in the nation’s capital Saturday to attend the Georgetown-Duke game at the Verizon Center, but that appears to be unrelated to any Houston-Washington talks.”

    _________ interested in T-Mac?

  • http://www.worldstarhiphop.com The Real

i wonder if he is getting fully healthy. it has been a long time and he is only 29 years old. I think he will surprise a lot of people next time he plays. People forget he was just as good as Kobe for a couple years

  • tavoris

    don’t they have enough swingmen?

  • http://ww.kb24.com The Seed

Washington must be looking for a replacement shooter!!

  • Rico

McGrady might have something left in the tank, but that’s not why Washington wants him. Read the article!

McGrady spells RIDICULOUS cap relief. If Washington wants to start fresh and start building for the future they can unload some of their talent for the cap relief….

That way they can become major players in free agency, and forget that they wasted all of their money on Agent Zero (who’s a major problem child), Jamison and Butler who are never got them close to achieving what they thought they could…

While Washington has a ton of talent, they can’t stay healthy and build chemistry… time to start over…

  • AL29

Good plan by Houston. Quality guys like Butler and Jamison could totally deliver under the helm of Rick Adelman. Why not get something back after wasting soooooo much money and time on McGrady all these years?

This ‘story’ could be had for every team in the league.

    This isn’t news.
There have been rumours about Butler/T-Mac for over a month.

  • Jack

I’m surprised in the lack of interest too, I mean, if he’s healthy, he’s a top 5 player in the league.

  • Seven Duece

Why doesn’t Washington just void Arenas’ deal and then trade Jamison (extra overrated) & some young bigs (like pillow soft Blatche) if they really want to start over? It’s obvious the team is going nowhere this year; just start over.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/madlib Michael NZ

@Jack: First, he hasn’t been 100% or anywhere it for years. And second, even if he does get back on court he won’t be remotely close to being the player he once was.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Caron Butler for T-Mac would be great for Houston. Ariza is good but he’s definitely not the scorer Caron Butler is.

Jack voted for Mcgrady and Iverson to start in the all-star game. Thanks a lot to all the Jacks out there.

  • Shem

I understand why Houston wants to trade him and why Washington would want to pick him up (depending on the trade of course) but I dont understand why Washington hasnt released Gil as he is suspended for the season will face more then a year of jail time and has shown he isnt worth the money coming into the best free agent class in recent memory which is perfect for the ‘rebuilding’ wizards who still have Jamison and Butler (great players who cant win together).. next lets examine why Don Nelson has a job

I think this is a okay move for Washinton tey need a complete rebuild they would need to send some high contracts to Houston but they get rid of T-Mac a.s.a.p and they can either draft a good player or sign a great free agent t rebiuld around

  • drazvich

@Shem: if you read carefully on the news swirling around, seems the Wizards is hesitating because the Player Union will fight tooth & nail to prevent Arenas’ contract being voided. while I do understand that the Union should protect the interest of its member, but come on, the dude bring it upon himself with his antics.

  • http://www.behindtheb.blogspot.com Sam Raphael Chadwick

I feel that Wizards need a total revamp and therefore this is a good trade they can get rid of some of their big contracts and then T-Mac comes off the books in the summer allowing them to either pick up a good draft pick or a great free agent.

@Seven Deuce: antawn jamison overrated? GTFOutta slamonline.

  • tavoris

@Seven Deuce-if the Wiz could easily void Gil’s contract, they would have already done so. They are looking to trade him, because the KNOW they cannot void his contract now that Stern has already suspended him for the balance of the season.

I would rather see jamison in hou than butler. Hou already has ariza, battier, budinger. Jamison is somewhat of a post presence. He can score down in the block and stretch the d for scola/hayes/landry/yao?

  • Seven Duece

@tavoris – they can void it. Spreewell was suspended before his contract was voided, so the precedent has already been set. I think they’re trying to find a trade, because they have no talent and probably can’t get a top or second tier free agent next year to come there next year. With no alternative options, TMac would at least provide some name recognition.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Sprewell never had his contract voided.

  • tavoris

@Seven Deuce-The Warriors tried to void it, and the Players Association whupped their butts in arbitration.

  • tavoris

^and that is why the CBA has a “double jeopardy” clause in it now.
