Gerald Wallace Pushes the Panic Button in Charlotte

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

There was a time not too long ago — last month, in fact — when the Charlotte Bobcats were beginning to look like a potentially formidable foe. They beat the Cavs a bunch of times, and were poised to put a scare into whatever title contender they met in the first round of the Playoffs.

Now, having lost six of their last ten, including last night’s 24-point beatdown at the hands of the Celtics, the postseason is looking less and less like a certainty for this team. And veteran forward Gerald Wallace doesn’t seem to have much hope for his squad turning things around before it’s too late.

From the Charlotte Observer:

Charlotte Bobcats captain Gerald Wallace sees the season slipping away, and that’s about more than losing five of six or getting thumped Wednesday by the Boston Celtics.

“That was a team,” Wallace said of the Bobcats’ former incarnation, following a 104-80 loss. “This one is just guys out on their own as individuals. Not talking, not communicating on defense.”

And the implications? “Very worried,” Wallace said of the playoff prospects. “Even if we manage to figure this out and some other team slips up, I don’t know what kind of game we’d play. I’m worried if we do (make the playoffs), we’ll get swept.”

The ‘Cats (28-31) currently trail Miami by a game for the final Playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but there’s plenty of time left to right the ship.

Larry Brown might want to think about never allowing Gerald Wallace to deliver any kind of “motivational” speeches to the team. The dude can be a bit of a downer.

“This one is just guys out on their own as individuals. Not talking, not communicating on defense.”
It only took 6 games for Tyrus Thomas to be figured out.

ah well they can still make it. but they’ll have to put together a run. They’ve got some nice pieces and a great coach but if it doesn’t click and guys start playin for money instead of the W it’s kinda over

Downer? If I was on the team, thats exactly what I would need to hear. Mind you it should have not left the locker room. Who knows if its been said before to the team, but maybe going through the media will give it more of a push to get the entire team on the same level and smarten up.

LOL at the last line. Good stuff.

The pressure is one. Cue Stephen Jackson.

LOL @ another loss for the Charlotte O’Hara’s. Them clowns make all those trades & still suck

  • Nigel

I’d much rather see them in it than Miami. Hopefully the Heat can go through a rough patch while the ‘Cats get it together.

Since the all-star break Stephen Jackson just can’t provide his ‘A’ game. I don’t blame him, the problem obviously originate from lack of team effort. Just sayin’.

I still think they end up making the playoffs. If Noah shuts it down for the season the bulls might drop out.

  • LA Huey

That trade was not a good idea. It decimated their wing depth and it netted Tyrus Thomas.

“I make love to pressure.” -Stephen Jackson
Have no fear, Crash. That is an actual Stephen Jackson quote.

  • Jeff Henderson

Gerald Wallace’s performance in the dunk contest was the real downer.

  • Rob

Wallace’s being honest. It may not be what everyone wants to hear but he’s telling the truth.

he is 100% correct. We are in a real sh!tstorm right now. Things are bleak compared to bright…

“Larry Brown might want to think about never allowing Gerald Wallace to deliver any kind of “motivational” speeches to the team. The dude can be a bit of a downer.” This is one of the dumbest things you have ever wrote. Gerald is our team’s leader. He is saying what needs to be said, giving the rest of the guys a chin check before things really get out of hand. He is trying to restore order to the team by exposing the realities of the situation. He said what needed to be said, any and every real Bobcat fan is thinking it right now. We are a bunch of lost lambs, Gerald, Stephen, Raymond, and Larry are our sheperds.

Stephen Jackson needs to fire a gun in the air to wake that team up… Too soon?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Marcel with the one-liners!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

They’re seriously missing some offense now. The Bobcats should have kept Flip Murray, he was really starting to gel with the squad.

Gerald Henderson is an unnoticed rook

Gotta be able to handle the truth. Crash didn’t panic, he just exposed the problem. Let’s see what happens from here.
