MJ, Barkley Blamed for Tiger Woods’ Drama

El Tigre’s former adviser and lawyer tells Vanity Fair that Jordan and Barkley enabled him: “Woods’s preferred place to stay in Las Vegas was the Mansion at the MGM Grand, where a one-bedroom suite costs $5,000 per night. He would gamble in the ultra-exclusive V.I.P. casino nearby. According to a source known as Robin Hood 702, ‘sometimes the only people in the place were me, Tiger Woods, and Michael Jordan. Each of us sat at our own private table and played big. Tiger plays big. Up to 30 grand a hand … and when you’re playing splits and doubles, you can have 150 grand on one hand.’ ‘When Tiger showed up in Vegas, he was always with Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley,’ according to Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke. Years earlier, however, John Merchant had warned Woods to avoid Jordan and Barkley, saying of Jordan, ‘Stay away from that son of a b*tch, because he doesn’t have anything to offer to the f*cking world in which he lives except playing basketball.’ Merchant adds, ‘Are they his black role models? You’ve got to be kidding me.’”

Michael’s doing ‘Toine and Tiger’s wrong? He should know better than to do children like that! Wait, they aren’t children? Wrong “MJ”?…Oh, then how about we get back to adults being responsible for themselves.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I’m not sure….but I don’t think Charles or Mike were writing his text messages asking to beat women in the face with his c*ck or taking his d*ck out of their as*es and shoving them down their throats afterward and hope they choked on it. Sorry for being graphic, but it was dude’s words, not mine.

Grow up, Eldrick and I hope you suck at the Masters.

That is pretty true. MJ hasnt done anything worth talking about outside the bball world. he’s an arrogant ahole that just happens to be the best basketball player ever.

  • The D Train

Last time I checked, Tiger was a grown man who could make his own decisions. Is MJ’s force of will so powerful that he can bend the will of others, simply by hanging out with them? If so, let’s send MJ over the Middle East and frame it as a Nike sales opportunity. He’d have that whole mess cleaned up in a matter of days.

  • memyselfand9

“are they his black role models?”
what type of racist BS is that?

my bad for clicking this piece of non journalism.

  • James aka…

It’s interesting what’s being implied here. Basically that tiger, in spite of his fame and fortune, put himself in a subordinate position to two other older famous people. I guess it shouldn’t seem surprising, because its elementary human behaviour, but it shows that people, even a near billionaire, still place themselves into hierarchies, and seek recognition from others, even if to us the hierarchy isn’t really clear (how does a guy worth a billion kowtow to a guy worth 300 mill?). What’s all the more interesting is that his sexual behaviour shows himself as someone who sees himself at the top of another pecking order. A lot of that sexual behaviour is tinged with domination not just sexual release. He’s a very conventional man it seems.

  • jdubbs29

Are we influenced by our friends? Absolutely. Someone like MJ and Barkley are terrible role models. ‘Toine’s decline started on the gambling tables with MJ. I wonder if AI’s going broke has something to do with it too?

MJ cheated on his wife throughout their sham of a marriage. Of course he’s a bad role model.

  • The Philosopher

Truth be told, in my humble opinion, in golf, it is different from the other major sports. Golf is high society. Etiquette is at a premium. Proper manners, etc. Tennis has some of that too, despite it’s history. Now, that being said, there are a lot of people who are genuinely unhappy with Tiger Woods. A lot of important people within his arena.

  • http://slamonline.com d.j.

wow well they are just trying to pass the blame off that bastard tiger and down play what happened… i hope it doesn’t work and that he is not as a good of a golfer from this point on which is less than likely to happen but yeah just the way media is willing to cover it up for him makes me hate him even more than before… and M.J. hasn’t given the world anything except for bbeal ? try the JORDAN brand bastards ! the most creative basketball shoes ever created… what has tiger woods given the world except for golf ? nothing.. alleged sex tape might be coming up soon but thats it..

  • riggs

an idiot trying to pass the buck off to other people? say it aint so!

  • KaponoE

So, I guess I’m not the only one wondering about the “black role models” line, right?

  • The Philosopher

And, society seems to need to blame someone or something. They loved Tiger. He truly had a lot of people fooled. But, he had to put on that act. When one is the first of their kind in a respective arena in society, (in which Tiger Woods is) they have to play the part. He can’t go to the podium acting like Terrell Owens in golf. They’ll run him out of town.

  • The Philosopher

Now, he can relax, let the world view him for what he really is, not what he wasn’t. Besides, he is the greatest golfer who’s ever lived. And there are people who have a hard time dealing with that fact, also. (Fuzzy Zoeller)

  • Heals

Yeah let’s all play the blame game, c’mon it’s called personal accountability…

  • BackInBlack

that guy is a douche bag

  • Clayton Holloway

First off.. Barkley and Jordan didn’t hold a gun to his head, he could have said NO.. next 150 grand ain’t sh*t to Jordan and Tiger, are you serious? They made millions a year.. MILLIONS!! Thousands ain’t nothing to them.. What does “Black” role models mean exactly, why not just role models? John Merchant should have warned Tiger about cheating and how that might affect his life rather than going out with MJ and Barkley..

  • The Philosopher

And besides, Merchant, I wonder who he suggests be Tiger Woods’s black role models? Al Sharpton? What about Jesse Jackson? Jeremiah Wright?

  • vtrobot

(yawn) i think the most shocking part of all of this is how, after everything we’ve heard and read, tiger is still one of the most BORING athletes ever. jesus, please don’t interview him again. it’s as interesting as listening to john kerry only telling you things you already know. tiger, please don’t talk anymore and just play your golf and f*ck whoever is able to look past your urkelness.

  • Rob

A grown man can decide what he does and what he avoids. Tiger’s decisions are his own. He’s to blame and no one else. Merchant wants publicty. Let’s just ignore him the phucka.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

That last comment attributed to KaponeE, actually came from me.
And, to be clear since folks didn’t read the article it seems. TIGER DID NOT BLAME ANYONE.
A FORMER employee of his blamed other people. So, while I understand the ire, it’s misplaced.

  • Hangtime Hec

If James Aka… Is the James Aka that I think he is, Well bro your a lot smarter when your not talking about b-ball. J/k. It shouldn’t come to a surprise that the people that we worship aren’t model citizens. That the person that they are in reality doesn’t match the exaggerated image that the media has created.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Tiger is not a child.. Whoever is trying to place even a little of the blame on Mike and Chuck is just trying to protect Tiger’s squeeky-clean image that he had before all this happened.. My opinion- cheating on your spouse is wayy worse then some of the stupid laws that can land people in jail..

  • Hangtime Hec

Fame and money is power. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I am just sick and tired of people making excuses for how vile MJ really is. And that Tiger is no different. These guys are human after all.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

an example from my last post- If you are loading the dishwasher and arguing with your wife/g.f. and you (accident or not) drop a glass in the sink and it breaks. That is considered domestic violence. You will spend at least 48hours in jail. be enrolled in a year long D.V. program. and pay many fines. and if u happened to be drunk. the judge will take away your drinking privledge for 2 years.. But its perfectly legal to bang all the hookers u want in Vegas while your wife sits at home clueless watching The Hills..

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

^ not to mention a 9 month no-contact order.. (one of you needs to leave house)

  • Jake

All I can do is roll my eyes at this.I thought people were supposed to start taking responsibility for their own actions after grade school.Plus, unless you know Michael Jordan or Charles Barkley personally it’s not really proper to call them bad people. The press only gives us one side of the story after all.Oh and as far as MJ not doing anything for the world, how about him donating his full salary from playing with the Wizards to the 9/11 fund?

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

so he does all of this heavy gambling, yet he can still crush all of us with his wallet. sounds like a non-issue to me. and since when did role models have to be a certain color? why does that even matter?

  • MikeC.

Knick fans have known for a long time that Jordan is a dickhead. Glad to see the rest of the world is catching on.

  • Illydiva

@Allenp, obviously John Merchant is a racist who doesn’t see Tiger as being black and therefore he can make comments like this. @Jake, just because a person gives to charity doesn’t make them a good person. I’ve heard enough about MJ from those who do know him to believe he is indeed a d*ck, but I won’t give him credit for corrupting poor lil Tiger.

  • James aka…

    @ Hangtime Hec
I don’t know if I’m the same person you’re thinking of, but I bet not. If you’re thinking of James the Balla or some other James, I’m not him. I once posted as Krayzie Bone, then for some reason that ID got blocked on here (I don’t know why but I didn’t bother asking). So I started posting as James aka the artist formerly known as krayze bone. Everytime i cleared my cache at home though i had to retype that so i just shortened it. I don’t post that often but when I do its usually a social comment not about BBall (I like the NBA but I can’t be bothered to argue too much about it).

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

Truth a- Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley are terrible role models… Truth b- Tiger Woods has no one but himself to blame.
@ Illydiva: I think you’ve misunderstood that quote… he DOES see Tiger as black, and thinks the dude needs black role models. It’s a questionable statement but I’m really not sure it’s as bad as some people are making it out to be. Racist? Am I missing a connotation to it or something?

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

About time MJ and Barkley be blamed!! I knew about this about 6 months ago. The company you keep tells you alot about yourself. I mentor kids and explained to them, if you hang around someone who smokes/steal you will be a weed head/ stealer eventually and in Tiger’s case if you hang around worldly idols who whoremong anytime they get, then you will think you are an IDOL/GOD like these dumb old men ( who try to stay revelant) and feel you can do and get away with anything. Also Tiger is a sham anyway, he is a token black player who worships a gold bald fat man, so root for the sucker if you want, but Tiger will fall again if he continues to worship a cat call BUDDHA. Tiger has learned if man promotes you, then they will break you. Tiger needs to pick some better friends, change his thinking about life and to be honest Barkley just talks with no insight and MJ has never said anything important in his whole LIFE. PLANT THAT!!!

  • kg

    - actually that jordan dis is kinad true ? in recent articles jordan does not care about any of the next big name ball players because all he is worried bout is his name as the greatest because once a player like lebron or kobe take that throne what else does jordan have ? without basketball jordan has nothing , he is a selfish snob smh shouldnt be anyones role model.

  • kg

    - this black role model thing ? seriously if yu look around there arent many BLACK role models so you guys should know what that means. How is everything rascist as me being black i dont take the offensive at all being black is being african american. so all this rascist nonsense is not needed , just another thing people need to blow up smh

  • http://Yahoo.com 323 478 1884

I blame Kevin melendez he probably brought all the girls to Tiger so he could enjoy himself.

  • The Philosopher

American black people have been selling each other out since the arrival of the first boat to America from Africa. It is basically engraved into the DNA of American black people. It’s called the Willie Lynch Syndrome.

  • Dyce

I think the point was not to model yourself after Jordan. There are few people who can actually identify with Tiger and know what he is going through, and Jordan is one of them. So its natural that he gravitates towards him. It would make sense for Tiger to seek advice from him, but being that Jordan is a dick Merchant told him not to.

  • Illydiva

@Jukai, why point out they were black then? Why not just ask if they were his role models, period. If he was hanging out with say, Jesse James and Charlie Sheen, would he have asked “are these Tiger’s white role models”?

  • http://www.realultimatepower.net doyouwantmore

I blame his white and asian role models equally.

  • nastierthanu2

    waste of time

  • MikeC.

The whole “Jordan and Barkley are bad role models” is a stupid point to make. These are all grown men who can make grown man decisions. Jordan and Barkley are single, Tiger was/is married. Jordan and Barkley were out doing single rich guy things like going on gambling binges and putting their wieners into questionable women. These are things that would have been fine for Tiger’s image if he were a single man. Nobody can blame MJ and Charles for doing what they do. Blame Tiger for wanting to emulate his single friends. I have single friends that do single guy things, like bang random broads. I don’t hang out with them when they do their single guy stuff. Tiger needs to find some married friends so that he and Mrs. Tiger can go out with their married friends and take day trips to Bed Bath & Beyond and go for picnics and other stuff that sucks, but doesn’t cost you your marriage.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

    bad associations tiger.

  • Ronald

@Seed, what the hell does being a Buddhist have ANYTHING to do with his sexual problems?

  • Papou

Michael Jordan is a moron, a supremely talented, strong willed rich moron. John Merchant`s comment is dead on.

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

Illydiva: Well, many believe that if you’re a suppressed minority, looking up to other successful minorities will make you think “hey, I can make it, I shouldn’t just waste my talent” and you will achieve more.
However, the comment was more about ‘what to do with your money when you’re successful’ so, you know, that’s why it’s questionable. I was just wondering if I was missing something here that made it worse.
MikeC: Jordan was married until VERY recently and, word on the street is, he was cheating just as bad as Tiger Woods was. Brush up on yer E! News son!

  • Justin

It should also be pointed out that this guy hasn’t had any association with Tiger’s camp since 1997. It wasn’t like he was saying this stuff to Tiger a year ago. Tiger wasn’t married back then so he could sleep with whoever the hell he wanted to, and if MJ and Charles were goading him then so what? This guy is just another chump trying to get press off of the likes of Tiger, MJ, and Charles.

i like the fact that the source if called ‘Robin Hood 702′

  • http://oaklandmagazine.com Lonzo Long

Barkley said a long time ago that he wasent a role model, Jordan has never tried to be anything more than a bball player and business man and Tiger has never done anything besides play golf do commercials and count money, people are angry because the reality of these peoples personalities dont match the perception they had of said individuals in there heads..not their faults they are human..we all know similar people in our personal lives..

The line about Jordan is perfect, though.

  • DMC14

Barkley is still a funny person. and my fav bballer of all time. He’s my black role model and i’m white. i guess i’m in trouble.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Damn, on hasn’t worked for Tiger since 1997?
And he’s a key source for the article?
That’s sloppy right there. I mean, it’s bad enough to quote the chicks who banged a married man and are complaining that he was too cheap to break them off.
But, when you quote jilted employees who haven’t been employed for a decade, well that’s just horrible work right there.
    Meh, but it’s not surprising.

I totatly agree, MJ has been my Idol from time, since I was a little boy. some of the stuff he says is inspirational, helped in life when your down in the dumps. him and charles get hated on for keeping it real and telling the truth, people need to stop watching E! and obsessing about celebrities lives. and to say hes not relevant out basketball is stupid. he donated his wizard pay to 9/11, the Jordan Brand donates to high school, and underprivileged kids and to colleges in fact. he took a no name motorcycle team sponsored it and it won a title few years after. Charles has said he isnt a role model, MJ is he the best husband doubt it, but ya’ll dont know what happened in his marriage, like Charles said about his DUI its none of your business ima keep it private, so ya’ll saying he cheated is just media rumors, and we all know how reliable they are. unless you we legit in that home you know nothing, i know nothing either. but MJ is the G.O.A.T. so sue him if hes got a bit of a swagger and attitude, cant blame tiger for wanting to hang out some of the coolest brothers around, how many of you can honestly say growing up you didnt wanna be like Mike? Tiger got to do it, but hes not blaming him, other people are, tiger manned up, almost, but still these are adults. the lines dont watch me watch tv, comes to mind when it comes to their personal lives.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Mike cheated. That ain’t a rumor. He had a chick knocked up, but she delivered a stillborn baby. Karla Knafel. Check it out.

  • Hangtime Hec

There is a difference between Mike the BASKETBALL PLAYER and the HUMAN BEING that I think people often forget. Sure I would love to be like mike on the court. Being able to give the allusion of flight. That would be neat. But out of the court? Nah. I wouldn’t want to be a man that is motivated on winning to the point that rationality and reason becomes skewed.

  • MikeC.

@Jukai – From what I recollect, Jordan was married, separated, reconciled, separated, and now divorced. There’s very little doubt he was up to no good during that entire period. My point was that Jordan is currently a single man who can do as he pleases with few consequences, and that Tiger is in image-resurrection mode, trying to stay with his wife and suck up to the companies he endorses. However, I must offer up a wholehearted apology for not being up on my E! News. My cable package doesn’t have it (I think. Or I’ve just always flipped past it due to not caring.). I guess I have a touch of old-fashioned in me. If you want to toss your wiener into random cooz-holes, don’t get married. When you’re done with all that and find the cooz-hole that was made for your wiener, then marry it. I hope that made sense. I’m kinda drunk.

  • MikeC.

Jeez. Must have taken me awhile to type up that last one. When I started that last post, Denver and Portland were in a very tight game, and now Denver is up 14. Sheee-it.

  • peter

Hangtime, so you know Mike the HUMAN BEING? What’s he like dude?

  • http://Www.twitter. Darksaber

    Hehehehe “cooz-hole”… Funny.

  • DanielL

I think MJ really should have taken Tiger to Disney, not Vegas, that’s really bad for a kid.
